Chapter 24: Capabilities (2)

Chapter 24: Capabilities (2)

"So how will you be training me, we really don't have all that much time so what's the most efficient way?" I asked the man who had my hope in his hands.

"You will be dealing with real life scenarios; I will be talking to you through a radio to assist you when needed. Not only that, but I'll also teach you techniques this way. Sadly, you will have to learn them on the fly and if you can't learn one fast enough, we simply move on to the next."

"Damn alright, when do we get started then?"

"Right now, you'll be going over to the ghetto where a gang war is currently taking place. Your objective is to find hard evidence on both gang's leaders and their higher ups. The reason for this is so that when we take them to court, there's no way they can weasel out of charges because of the lack of evidence."

"Crimes like this still happen in a country that is deemed a superpower? How's that even possible?"

"It simply means they are skilled enough to operate of out this country. Our court system is really a main reason though, if there isn't enough evidence to prove someone guilty then they will be innocent. The high end criminals abuse this system and tend to get away with the crimes they commit."

"What if there's an organization that's doing a lot of damage to the country itself, like a terrorist group?"

"Oh for those types of people we merely hunt them down and kill them. We skip the whole court process and move on to what's known as a death sentence. Especially if they are doing damage to the government or the guild's then there is no remorse."

It seemed Volestia didn't do everything by the book, although I really don't blame them. The world has a lot of moving pieces meaning bugs like those needed to be squashed.

I understood why crime was a thing and for why a person would want or had to live that type of life, but it still means they are considered a mere bug to society.

"Okay lets get you changed into a outfit that will fit the area and what tools would you like to use during this mission?"

"Hm probably a dagger, small handgun with a silencer, a blacked out mask, and audio recording device."

"Okay and I should mention violence is a worst-case scenario, remember this is espionage. Killing or even having to use force should be the lowest priority, you should really only use it in self-defense. Lastly, don't go around killing people, this is Volestia, your actions have consequences so consider your options."

"I know, it's just going to be something I have to get used to. As you can tell, I have pretty violent tendencies and can't really control them yet. All I've really ever done is kill, that's all. Its all I have to me...."

My instructor didn't say anything, he looked up towards the ceiling and closed his eyes. Minutes went by as the man didn't say anything and just sat there.

I started to believe he might have fell asleep until he finally opened those eyes of his.

He then started to talk to me about his own ideologies, they made me realize what type of person this man truly is.

"Back when I use to have a social life many people loved to ask me what type of person I was. I could never really answer that question, it was something that always stumped me. I had a wife and two beautiful kids and even this job which I loved, yet I still couldn't comprehend my own self." He took a deep breathe and continued on with his story.

"I couldn't find this answer no matter what, it stayed this way until the fateful day where I had lost almost everything. My wife died alongside my two little angels.... Their hero wasn't there to save them... I wasn't there, I had an important mission, so I was nowhere to be found."

I had been looking at him this entire time, yet not a single out of emotion could be seen. This man was like a ghost.

I know I'm looking at something, but I can't tell what it is? I decided to ask him personally the question that was in my head.

"Who you are really? What have you done to reach this? Why in the world would you do this?"

The man's purple eyes which seemed to be an abyss now looked at mine and simply stated. "Me? I'm no one Azrail.... A tool perhaps you could say. A tool that is used for achieving a greater cause.."

"Do you not hear yourself? You were a father who had children and lost them! How could you act so nonchalant when you yourself are a failure to biggest degree?!"

The man looked at me and simply smiled. I honestly already wanted to beat this guy half to death again.

"Who says I'm telling you the truth? See how easy it is to control you? This is why espionage is an art since you can't even tell what's real or not. Even right now while I'm telling you this you are questioning everything about me."

The man was right once again, I started to realize how much pressure I was really under. At first this academy seemed like a pipe dream, but having to worry about all these details, reality is starting to kick in.

My excitement was killed completely, in less than one months time I'm going to have to change completely. My personality and emotional state being the biggest thing about me that needs changing. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑤𝑒𝑏𝓃ℴ𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝒸ℴ𝘮

It infuriates me that only certain emotions flare up while others seem like they aren't even there. Why the hell can't I feel an extreme amount of happiness? Why must it always be anger or sadness?

I started to grab my legs out of pure anger. I was sick and tired of lacking behind in something, I wanted to be ahead of the damn curve for once not behind it.

"Let's start this damn mission already huh.... I can't wait see how good of an instructor you are."
