Chapter 39: Discussion (2)
Chapter 39: Discussion (2)
I took my time before answering, no one dared to interrupt my thoughts as an important man asked the question. Everyone else also wanted to know the answer as well. When they were asked to train the kid each one of them said no, leaving me to take care of it.
As I am the youngest captain of the VIA, all tasks they do not wish to do fall to me.
"Yes sir, I believe he's able to fulfill our expectations. There is no other kid from Volestia who comes close to him when it comes to completing our tasks. Although our training got completely ruined, I still think he'll be more than fine for the first year." I stated calmly, hoping that my answer would be enough for his curiosity. I didn't even know the man's name as this was our only second time meeting.
No one else besides Larry knows the man's name, so all of us address him as sir.
"Good, very good. What rewards shall we give to the boy then William?" The old man dropped a question I truly didn't want to answer out loud. I would have rather wished to deal with it privately as to not deal with all the bullshit.
"I believe he should get paid a large sum of money first, I will leave the amount up to anyone here. Second, I want him to get a recommendation into the Reaper Core if war with the Elves is waged...."
The first reward I stated was truly nothing major, this was common as most people who had achieved something were given a bonus on their paycheck.
The second reward however had the room feeling very heavy, it seemed like not everyone agreed to it but that is what I expected. The second reward was truly pushing it, but I needed for it to happen.
No one opened their mouths and kept their thoughts to themselves, although that didn't stop a couple of them from giving me a dirty look.
"There's no problem with the first reward, however the second is a different story. I believe the boy has not done enough to get him into selection, but if he is able to do well in the academy, we will get him into selection. This is an order, no one can refute or change this decision." 𝒇𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Thank you sir." I said in a grateful tone as I was happy with the outcome. I believed Azrail had the skillset to earn his shot at the selection.
With the Reaper Core being one of the best special forces units Volestia has, only people with a recommendation are able to try out for selection. To earn a recommendation, you usually need years of service and combat experience just to earn the right to try out.
Supposedly only 10 percent of those people make it through to the actual squads. I read in a report once that the youngest to ever make it into the core was 30 years old.
If everything went that way I thought it would be, Azrail would be joining at the age of 18 which would smash the record.
I fully believed he could pass the exam in three years time, with his prior combat experience as well as learning at the academy he should be able to do it. The kid was already dangerous, enough so that he was able to kill an Elf at the age of 15.
When I first read his reports, I was left stunned with how much he accomplished in Maru. The damn kid hunted down almost every single criminal organization and killed every one of its members.
His fighting style revolves around speed and pure aggression, with each technique being brutal. There was no clean fight with him, if you left your eyes unguarded he would definitely go for them.
He was downright terrifying, although he wasn't the strongest for his age, he made up for it with versatility and technique.
The room was completely silent as it seemed there was nothing else to say. I simply got up and started to take my leave as I still had a report to write about everything that transpired.

POV: Azrail Diggory (2 days after Elf incident)
"BEEEP" "BEEEEP" BEEEP"
I slowly opened my eyes to the sounds of my annoying alarm going off. I turned to my right and turned the damn thing off.
My body felt terrible, even though I just woke up I still felt extremely tired. I didn't want to leave my bed, but I forced myself out and managed to stand up.
'What time is it?' I looked over to my alarm to see it was 11 AM, my eyes bulged since I knew I was late for training. I looked down at my clothes to see I was wearing my usual black shorts and plain white long sleeve shirt, so I only needed my shoes.
I put on my black running shoes and headed off to my instructor's office.
I came to his office and quickly opened the door; my instructor was sitting down on the couch eating a donut. He slowly looked over to me and pointed his head over to the other couch.
I took a seat and waited for the man to finish his donut; it was the least I could do by being late.
The man finally finished eating his donut and threw an envelope that hit my chest. I didn't know what was in it, so I decided to open it up and I found a check inside.
I pulled out the check saw the number 500,000 on it, my jaw dropped and I looked up at my instructor who gave me a smug smile.
"I know I know, I'm such an amazing guy right. Don't open your mouth like that though guys might think you're easy."
"You know what douchebag, I actually know a guy that's just like you and I think he might be just your type. Anyways can you send this to my mom, I don't even have a bank account plus I'll be leaving the country, so just give it to her and tell her to spend it on herself."
"Aren't you so generous, but alright I'll have someone do that for you. Anyways good news bud, you leave for the academy bright and early tomorrow!"
"What! Don't I have two more days before that? Oh fuck I slept for that long didn't I."
"Yep you did, seems like your body and mind had been in a pretty bad state. It's okay though you'll be fine, here just read up on these files which contain prior missions the VIA has done. Figure out what the agents do and how you could add some of their skills to your own.
Oh by the way be here at my office at 5 AM, don't bring anything since we have all the supplies you'll need. "
I grabbed the files and started to head back to my room. The walk was a very slow one, I couldn't believe I slept for that long and it angered me to all hell. I knew I was nothing but a mere boy walking into that hell hole that they call an academy.
After seeing that Elven girl be so much stronger than me, I knew that this world was bigger than I had thought.
