Chapter 42 - Currying Favor
42 Currying Favor
Their words were filled with flattery.
Just now, this group of people had mocked Jian Xing’er, but now, they were all trying to please her.
Wang Shuai didn’t dare to say a word. Just now, he had mocked Jian Xing’er a lot. Now, Wang Shuai didn’t dare to curry favor with her, nor did he have the nerve to speak.
Wang Shuai said fearfully, “Junlai, on account of us being buddies, if Jian Xing’er wants to punish me later, you must help me.”
Wang Shuai was really afraid. After all, he mocked Jian Xing’er previously. Perhaps Jian Xing’er would punish the entire Wang family.
Not knowing what to say, Hou Junlai was silent.
Wang Shuai immediately patted Junlai’s shoulder anxiously and said, “Junlai, say something! We’ve been buddies for more than ten years. You can’t abandon me!”
Just as Wang Shuai finished speaking, a car drove over.
The counselor from back then got out of the car.
Seeing that everyone in the class, except Hou Junlai and Wang Shuai, was trying to please Jian Xing’er, he was a little stunned.
The counselor walked forward and said, “What are you guys doing? I remember that at previous gatherings, you guys always mocked Jian Xing’er for fun. How did you guys become like this now?”
Everyone looked embarrassed, since they didn’t know how to explain.
Back then, the counselor treated Jian Xing’er quite well and thought very highly of her.
However, after graduation, Jian Xing’er married into the Hou family. Everything that happened afterwards disappointed the counselor.
The counselor felt that Jian Xing’er had no backbone at all since she relied on the Hou family to make a living. Therefore, the counselor ignored her afterwards.
When others mocked Jian Xing’er, the counselor felt that Jian Xing’er asked for it.
The counselor said, “Jian Xing’er, I thought so highly of you back then and thought that you would definitely have a promising career after graduation. I didn’t expect you to choose to rely on the Hou family in the end.”
The counselor paused briefly and continued, “You will never be successful in this life.”
Jian Xing’er said, “I’ve disappointed you.”
The counselor snorted and said, “You’re really stubborn! I heard that the Hou family chased you out. If you don’t work hard now, you’ll be mocked by everyone for the rest of your life.”
Jian Xing’er laughed and didn’t say anything.
Seeing that Jian Xing’er was still laughing, the counselor was even angrier.
Wang Shuai, who had been silent all this while, immediately went forward and said, “Instructor, you’ve misunderstood Jian Xing’er. Jian Xing’er is the most capable person among us.”
Wang Shuai spoke up for Jian Xing’er.
He wanted to please Jian Xing’er.
Everyone else also followed suit.
When the counselor heard everyone’s words, he was stunned, but he still didn’t believe them.
He felt that everyone was just mocking Jian Xing’er.
The counselor said with a frown, “How can I not know what’s going on with Jian Xing’er? Didn’t you guys mock Jian Xing’er every year?”
When everyone heard the counselor’s words, they immediately fell silent.
Everyone was afraid that if they said anything else and Jian Xing’er misunderstood, it would be difficult for them to explain themselves.
Everyone had to think carefully every time they spoke. They couldn’t afford to offend Jian Xing’er.
Jian Xing’er was amused by their appearance.
But upon thinking about it carefully, there was nothing to be proud of.
In Sea City, Jian Xing’er had no power at all. She was just relying on the Li family’s prestige.
Jian Xing’er walked into the hotel amidst self-mockery.
When everyone saw Jian Xing’er enter, they immediately followed.
Hou Junlai wanted to leave directly, but Wang Shuai dragged him over and refused to let him leave.
Hou Junlai was very embarrassed and was too ashamed to see Jian Xing’er.
Hou Junlai had chased Jian Xing’er away, but then he came to beg Jian Xing’er when something happened to the company.
After the dishes and wine were served, everyone began to eat and drink.
The topic they discussed was how Jian Xing’er had taught the Xu family’s father and daughter a lesson.
The counselor didn’t believe it at first, but seeing how serious everyone was, he had no choice but to believe it.
Although the counselor had an impassive expression, he was very happy. He usually didn’t drink much, but he drank a lot more than usual today due to his good mood.
The reason the counselor was so concerned about Jian Xing’er was because he had a good relationship with Jian Xing’er’s father back then. The counselor wanted to nurture Jian Xing’er into a talent, but what Jian Xing’er had done afterwards disappointed the counselor.
Jian Xing’er also knew that the counselor had always been stubborn but soft-hearted.
Jian Xing’er picked up her wine glass and toasted the counselor.
Jian Xing’er remained silent.
The counselor was also silent and the two of them drank the wine in their glasses silently.
Even Jian Xing’er herself didn’t even know if she was happy or not.
