Chapter 247: Silent Hunting
KIKI frowned slightly upon hearing this. “What if we can’t kill them all?”
“We can only try to weaken the mark as much as possible.” Lin Xian’s gaze flickered as he said in a deep voice, “Other survivors must be facing the same problem. They don’t have Hell’s Black Chrysanthemum and can only defend passively. In this situation, the death rate is bound to be high!”
Lin Xian hadn’t expected that the moment they entered the snowfield, they would face an almost unsolvable dilemma.
KIKI was right. Even with enough time, there was no way to guarantee they could kill all the pursuing Snow Wraiths. That meant Infinite Train could never completely erase its mark, leaving them exposed in the blizzard at all times.
But after thinking it through, there was no better solution. The train couldn’t stop, and they couldn’t kill every monster beneath the snow. The snowfield stretched endlessly like an ocean, and as the snow piled up, there was no telling what other horrors might emerge.
“This is the plan!”
Lin Xian made a swift decision, pressing his earpiece. “Cease fire! Fire Bro, return! Ms. Chen, accelerate!”
“For now, we hold our ground. If these creatures are just tracking us, they won’t cause immediate harm. Our defenses are strong;they won’t be breached so easily. My idea is to find a less open area before nightfall and do a cleanup operation there. The goal is to reduce our mark level as much as possible before dark.”
“These things are infuriating! They hide beneath the snow and still manage to mark us…” Shasha said angrily.
“Hyenas are pack hunters,” Ding Junyi explained. “Their attack power and methods might not be as fierce as wolves or tigers, but they encircle their prey in large numbers, wearing them down little by little. Once their target starts bleeding, exhaustion is inevitable, and death is only a matter of time.”
Hearing this, a heavy sense of crisis weighed down on everyone. The train was surrounded by monsters, yet they were powerless against it. It felt as if they had been marked as prey doomed to die. Once darkness fell, the Snow Wraiths would swarm and devour them completely!
Lin Xian raised his voice, rallying the crew. “But what we do know is that these things won’t attack before nightfall, and we can observe our mark levels. This gives us some control—we can at least decide what level we enter the night with.”
“I have a suggestion.”
Ding Junyi glanced at Hell’s Black Chrysanthemum and pointed at it. “Once our mark reaches level 5, we open fire to ‘relieve pressure.’ A level 5 mark might be beyond our ability to handle, so let’s not take unnecessary risks.”
Lin Xian watched as the Disaster Flora’s crimson glow shifted and nodded.
“I was thinking the same thing.”
He turned to the team. “That’s the plan. Stay alert. Once we hit level 4, we fire again. I’m worried that as the snow thickens, reducing our mark level will only get harder.”
The worst-case scenario would be if they couldn’t kill the marked ones fast enough, leading to a level 5 ‘Dark Hunt’ tonight.
If that happened, their only hope was that they wouldn’t encounter something on the scale of an Atmospheric Mica monster in the blizzard.
The relentless pursuit of the Snow Wraiths put everyone on Infinite Train on edge. Many wore grim expressions as they watched the snow deepen, the storm intensify, and the shapes moving beneath the ice.
Shhhh...
More and more Snow Wraiths were gathering!
Inside the train, the atmosphere became unbearably heavy. Time ticked away, each second like a countdown to disaster.
The entire train felt like a pressure cooker, the tension making it hard to breathe.
Lin Xian strode toward Carriage 12. The only thing he could do now was produce as much ammunition as possible—especially for the Roarer K23 Electric Gatling Gun, Thunderstorm A1 Grenade Launcher, and the 1130 and T8-Z Vulcan Military Siege Mech, all of which required large-caliber rounds.
Against pack-hunting creatures, the best countermeasure was overwhelming firepower.
In his Disassembly Space, most materials had already been converted into ammunition components. Under his dual-hand Mechanical Manufacturing ability, bullets poured out rapidly.
Meanwhile, the others worked in full swing, hauling crate after crate of ammo from Carriage 12 to supply the firepower points—grenade launchers, 12.7mm heavy machine gun rounds, and 30mm tungsten-core armor-piercing shells. Lin Xian was producing them like a madman.
At the same time, he silently prayed that Da Ying and the other three convoys had listened to his warnings about Dark Marks and taken precautions.
“They rerouted through Yunzhou Mountain’s western pass. The snowfall shouldn’t be as severe there…” Lin Xian thought.
Chen Sixuan, who was monitoring road conditions, had also received the latest updates. Her expression was grim as she stared at the ever-deepening snow ahead. Above, the massive storm vortex loomed like a dark maw threatening to consume the world.
“Before reaching Dalat Town, we have to pass through Wuliya Satai Mountain. The altitude isn’t high, only a few hundred meters… The terrain here…”
She reviewed the route records she had prepared earlier.
Normally, when facing Eerie Entities at night, the best strategy was to find an open area for maneuverability and retreat options.
But under current conditions, it was the opposite—endless snowfields stretched on both sides, hiding an unknown number of Snow Wraiths beneath. If they didn’t find a more enclosed terrain to make a stand, they would just attract more predators until they ran out of ammo.
Finding a defensible position before nightfall became Chen Sixuan’s top priority.
In Carriage 5, Lu Xingchen cracked his knuckles in frustration, looking at Daluo, who was methodically preparing ammunition. He muttered grimly,
“This is like controlling fire—too much burns everything, too little leaves a mess behind. These damn monsters are a real headache.”
“You? Frustrated?” Daluo snorted without looking up. “I suggest you finish your tea now. From this moment until nightfall, we cannot relax.”
“Relax, my friend!” Lu Xingchen sat cross-legged on his meditation cushion, closing his eyes like a sage. “I always have plenty of energy. These Snow Wraiths are natural enemies of my Divine Flame! Tonight, just watch me unleash carnage!”
Whooooosh!
Above, the terrifying Extreme Cold Vortex churned ominously. The blizzard howled, whipping cobalt-blue ice crystals through the sky. At its core, a chaotic space distortion flickered violently!
Snow roared across the train, visibility dropping as temperature and wind speed plummeted.
From running beneath the sunlit snow earlier to now being engulfed in a raging storm, Infinite Train had traveled less than two hours—proof of the Extreme Cold Vortex’s terrifying speed and reach.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
Frost formed rapidly on the windows, cold seeping into the carriage junctions. Feeling the rapid temperature drop, Lin Xian increased the train’s internal heating.
“Lin, we’ve got a problem.”
In Carriage 10, Shu Qin watched the Snow Wraiths swimming through the ice like a school of fish and reported through the comms, “They’re increasing in numbers. You were right—the thicker the snow, the more of these things appear.”
Beside her, Lü Chang let out a worried sigh. “I just hope nothing bigger shows up…”
Lin Xian turned to Ding Junyi. “Director Ding?”
“We’ve reached a level 2 mark. At this rate, we’ll hit level 3 in 30 minutes and level 4 within an hour.” Ding Junyi reported calmly.
“Understood.”
Lin Xian closed his eyes for a moment, then said, “In one hour, we start the operation. Shu Qin, track their movement patterns. When we fire, we need precision.”
“Got it!”
He checked the time. 16:00. Two and a half hours until nightfall.

They would do their first sweep in an hour, then decide when to strike again.
His heart tightened—without enough firepower and precise judgment, they risked making things worse.
Now, all he could hope for was that the upcoming operation would yield results.
If not… they would have no choice but to stop and force the marks down, no matter the cost.
And in this situation, ammo was everything.
Beneath the snow, countless Snow Wraiths swarmed, their movement causing the layers above to ripple.
In Carriage 3, Ding Junyi fixated on her mobile terminal, monitoring the spectral changes of Hell’s Black Chrysanthemum while keeping track of the time.
Finally, when the Hell’s Black Chrysanthemum reached Level 4, she immediately reported through the comms.
“Lin Xian, our Dark Mark has exceeded Level 4.”
“Open fire!” Lin Xian didn’t hesitate. He stopped producing ammunition, stood up, and rushed to Carriage 11, unlocking the automatic explosion-proof door.
Ratatatatatata!Boom! Boom! Boom!
The crew had been waiting for this command. The moment it came through, gunfire erupted!
Five Roarer K23 Electric Gatling Guns and several M556 Light Machine Guns roared to life. At the same time, Daluo and Lu Xingchen in Carriage 5 unleashed their firepower.
In an instant, a metal storm poured into the boiling snowfield on both sides of the train. Bullets ripped through the air, explosions burst across the terrain, and Snow Wraiths were blown apart!
Above, flames raged, burning the creatures attempting to leap from the snow, their shrieks drowned by the roar of the inferno.
One after another, Snow Wraiths lunged from the deep snow, their bodies scorched by sunlight as they shrieked and latched onto the train’s armor. Their long tails whipped forward, their needle-like stingers stabbing with force.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
A series of heavy impacts rang out. To everyone’s shock, the Snow Wraiths’ tail stingers were powerful enough to dent the thick armor plating.
Some of them found gaps in the armored grates, their stingers piercing through the steel shell, embedding several inches deep into the train’s exterior.
Bzzz!Bzzz!Bzzz!
On the roof, KIKI, dressed in heavy winter gear, soared from the front of the train to the rear, releasing shockwaves from her hands. The force blasted the clinging Snow Wraiths off the train, sending them tumbling into the fire and sunlight, where they were instantly incinerated.
Before they died, these creatures behaved like bees on a suicide mission, stinging with everything they had before being engulfed in flames and plummeting into the abyss.
Before long, the steel plating of Infinite Train was covered in a dense array of dents from their stingers!
Swish!
Standing at the doorway of Carriage 11, Lin Xian raised his hand and unleashed a 【Mech Cannon】, blasting apart a massive Snow Wraith that had been lying in wait. The shot pierced through it and struck two more behind it, killing them instantly.
Boom! Boom!
Grenades detonated in the snow, sending shockwaves rippling through the white expanse. Each explosion revealed the hidden menace below—countless Snow Wraiths lurking beneath the frozen surface.
Lin Xian’s face was grim. Every single explosion exposed more creatures, confirming just how infested the snowfield truly was.
“Director Ding!”
“It’s down to Level 3,” Ding Junyi reported. “Increase firepower!”
Without hesitation, Lin Xian called out, “Shasha, fire the Railgun!”
The Railgun didn’t require ammunition and was typically reserved for large Eerie Entities, but right now, they couldn’t afford to hold back.
“Got it!”
Shasha immediately activated the G3-Railgun System.
Vwoooom!
The roof hatch of Carriage 2 slid open, and the G3-Railgun’s main barrel slowly ascended. Below, the Extreme Energy Capacitors charged rapidly.
A dazzling blue energy beam began to glow along the rails, and the targeting system locked onto a dense cluster of Snow Wraiths before firing.
Vwoom—Zzzzt!
A deafening ionized shockwave rang out as a brilliant beam of destruction blasted into the snowfield 100 meters ahead.
Boom!
Snow and ice exploded into the air, the impact sending a hurricane of shockwaves through the blizzard. A massive crater, several meters wide, formed where the blast had struck. More than a dozen Snow Wraiths were instantly vaporized, their bodies reduced to nothing but a spray of green blood.
With the addition of heavy artillery, the suppression of the Snow Wraiths became even more overwhelming.
“RAAAAH!!”
In Carriage 5, Daluo stood at the automatic door, gripping a Gatling Gun with a belt of ammunition draped over his shoulders. The rotating barrels glowed red-hot as he let out a battle cry, mowing down the oncoming creatures.
On the roof, Lu Xingchen and KIKI unleashed their abilities. Lu Xingchen’s flames scorched the creatures bursting from the snow like locusts, while KIKI used large-scale telekinetic waves to crush those hidden beneath the surface.
“Level 2! Three minutes remaining!” Ding Junyi’s voice came through the comms.
As Infinite Train’s firepower swept across the landscape, the once-pristine snowfield became a hellscape of corpses and green blood. The sheer force of their bombardment nearly drowned out the sound of the storm itself.
Ratatatatatata!Boom! Boom!
At this point, aside from the 1130 CIWS and the Vulcan Mech, Infinite Train had deployed almost all its firepower. Now, it was up to the Ability Users to play their trump cards.
Lin Xian, however, wasn’t willing to use the Eerie Cube just yet. There were unknown giant creatures lurking in Palma Grasslands and Yaze Lake, threats hanging over their heads like a sword. He needed to conserve energy to keep Infinite Train supplied with ammunition.
“Level 1! One minute!”
Finally, under the relentless onslaught, the Dark Mark was pushed below Level 1. Though the Hell’s Black Chrysanthemum still glowed faintly red, Lin Xian ordered a ceasefire.
He checked the time—17:05. It had taken approximately 12 minutes.
After calculating the time left until dark, he turned to Chen Sixuan. “Ms. Chen, nightfall should be at 18:35. Adjust our speed—we need to enter Wuliya Satai Mountain by 18:00.”
Based on her earlier calculations for the campsite, they were right on schedule. To ensure accuracy, Lin Xian left extra time to eliminate any remaining marks before nightfall.
“Understood!”
In the cockpit, Chen Sixuan finally felt a slight sense of relief. She pushed Infinite Train to full speed.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The thick snow was violently cleared away by the Icebreaker Shield, flinging it off the tracks. The colossal rail fortress engine roared as it accelerated, racing toward Wuliya Satai Mountain.
Every minute gained meant more time to relieve pressure, and the fewer marks they carried into the night, the safer they would be.
Across the train, crew members moved swiftly. Though they had just finished a battle, there was no time to rest. They immediately began restocking ammunition, preparing for the next pressure relief operation.
“KIKI, head to the cockpit.”
“For what?”
Lin Xian led KIKI to Infinite Train’s control room. As the train accelerated, he needed her to monitor and clear any obstacles on the track ahead.
“Use your ability to stabilize the train. If anything appears on the tracks—blow it away.”
“Got it.” KIKI nodded, understanding his intent.
Chen Sixuan added, “The snow is already over 80 centimeters deep. At this rate, by morning, it could exceed 1.5 meters or more.”
Her biggest fear was that the train would get buried completely, rendering it immobile.
But right now, they had no choice. Driving through the night would be suicide.
Lin Xian’s expression darkened. “We’ll deal with that later.”
“Where are you going?” KIKI asked.
Lin Xian turned away. “Fixing the carriages that got pierced.”
The Snow Wraiths might not be huge, and they were easy to kill, but their sheer numbers, speed, and armor-piercing stingers made them a serious threat.
And this was only during the day.
At night, they would enter a berserk state. If Infinite Train got fully surrounded, a breach could mean catastrophic losses.
Their only hope was to fortify before darkness fell.
“The outer layer of the research carriage is made of nitrided steel, boron carbide ceramic, and a self-repairing gel layer.”
In Carriage 4, Ding Junyi was checking whether the plants in the cultivation area had been affected by the infiltrating snow and wind. Seeing Lin Xian repairing the train’s armor section by section, she spoke up.
“This is aerospace-grade technology. You might want to consider upgrading Infinite Train’s armor with something similar.”
“It’s not that simple.”
Lin Xian focused on his repairs as he replied, “Those materials might be great on paper, but when dealing with these creatures, heavy armor is still the best defense. Internal upgrades won’t matter if the outer armor isn’t strong enough.”
Ding Junyi adjusted her glasses. “From what I know, the military’s top-tier armor steels are Tungsten-Titanium Alloy Type I and II. For mechas, they use Ultra-Carbon Carbide Alloy and Nano-Ceramic Armor for infantry. You might find those materials useful.”
Lin Xian’s interest was piqued. He looked up at her. “You know a lot, Director Ding. You’re right—if I can get my hands on those materials, Infinite Train’s armor would reach a whole new level.”
Unfortunately, Lin Xian didn’t have the molecular scan data for those high-end alloys, meaning he couldn’t convert them through the Manufacturing Center. Even if he did, transforming such materials would be extremely resource-intensive. And to armor an entire train? The cost would be astronomical.
Right now, Infinite Train relied on forged steel, titanium alloys, high-manganese steel, and hardened tungsten steel. These could be obtained by breaking down cars, trains, and large industrial machinery.
But Tungsten-Titanium Alloy?
The first time he ever got his hands on that material was by dismantling a damaged Iron Guard-3 Military Assault Mech. He had used it to craft his GK03 Electric Blade, Icebreaker Shield, and other vital components.
If he wanted more of it, he needed to find and devour even higher-grade military hardware. Cars and trains were no longer enough—they could only be used for ammunition and weapon manufacturing.
Rumbling through the Blizzard
Infinite Train thundered down the frozen rails, its engine roaring like a beast.
In the distance, more Snow Wraiths swarmed beneath the ice, their restless movements causing a shh-shh-shh sound as they pursued the train.
After repairing the damaged carriages, Lin Xian reinforced the outer armor. He also modified the shooting ports—when the battle started and the explosion-proof doors were opened, the internal temperature of the train had plummeted.
To conserve heat, he programmed the passage gates between Carriages 3 and 4 to automatically close when not in use.
But the living quarters in the back had no such protection. Cold air streamed in through the shooting ports, rapidly turning the living area into an icy wasteland. Many of the crew members who had been firing earlier now found their hands frozen stiff.
To counter this, everyone suited up in thick thermal retention gear and winter combat suits, bracing themselves for the approaching night.
“Lin Xian, we’re almost there!”
In the cockpit, Chen Sixuan peered into the distance. Ahead, several massive rolling hills stretched across the snowy expanse, their peaks blanketed in thick snow.
Wuliya Satai Mountain was a ring-shaped terrain consisting of low hills. Its highest peak was only a few hundred meters tall.
Before the Palma Grasslands were buried under this endless winter, it had been a breathtaking natural wonder. But now, all that remained was a vast, snow-covered wasteland.
The sun was beginning to sink, its light dimmed by the raging blizzard. The Extreme Cold Vortex above continued to churn, and the temperature dropped even further.
