Chapter 26 - Anya : Her Troubles - 2

Ruel pulled away from the kiss, his expression a mixture of tenderness and determination. freewebnøvel.coɱ

"I need to go," he said, his voice low but firm.

Mei Feng's eyes widened, a flicker of worry crossing her face. "Go? Where? What about me?"

"I'm going to see the... boss of this place," Ruel explained. "About getting you some clothes, and maybe finding out what's going on in this place."

"It shouldn't take too long. A day at most."

He gestured around the RV Battleship. "You'll be safe here. There's plenty of food, water, all the necessities. You'll be fine for a couple of days."

He gave her a reassuring smile, though his eyes held a hint of a darker purpose.

Mei Feng still looked uneasy. "But... be careful, okay? After what just happened..."

Ruel nodded, his gaze hardening. "I will. Don't worry about me. I can handle myself." He paused, then added, his voice a low murmur, "Besides, I have a... plan."

He leaned in and kissed her again, a quick, intense kiss. "I'll be back before you know it."

Then, he turned and strode towards the exit of the RV Battleship, leaving Mei Feng alone with her thoughts.

As he stepped out into the base, the sky was beginning to darken,

the last rays of the setting sun casting long shadows across the makeshift structures.

Ruel surveyed the scene, his eyes scanning the buildings until he located the one where he had seen Anya and her maid earlier.

"Hmm, whom should i dick down first? Anya or her bodyguard Elara" he thought, a predatory glint entering his eyes.

A plan was already forming in his mind.

He intended to get close to her, to offer his assistance, and to use his... unique talents to gain her trust and influence. And maybe, just maybe, a bit more.

But on the second thought"Fuck that shit!, why should run my brains if i can run my dick"

Then he cleared his thoughts and moves forward.

He knew it was a risky game, but Ruel thrived on risk.

He craved the challenge, the thrill of the hunt.

And Anya, with her power and her vulnerability, was a prize worth pursuing.

With a swift, fluid motion, he activated his enhanced agility, leaping onto a nearby rooftop.

He moved with incredible speed and grace, a shadow flitting across the rooftops, heading towards his target.

He was a predator on the prowl, and Anya was his next prey.

As Ruel moved through the base, making his way towards the building where Anya was, he observed the activity around him.

People were hurriedly closing down their makeshift shops, securing their belongings, and retreating to their designated living areas.

The atmosphere was thick with a sense of urgency and underlying fear.

"Gotta get everything secured before nightfall," one man muttered, dragging a heavy crate. "Don't want to attract any of those things."

"Yeah, and keep the noise down," another woman added, her voice sharp. "Last thing we need is a horde on our doorstep."

Ruel noticed the tension in the air, the strict adherence to the curfew.

He overheard snippets of conversation about the dangers of attracting zombies,

the fear of a horde forming, and the base's rule about silence after sunset.

Well that's a good rule to be honest and i doubt anyone gonna break that, unless they wanna see zombies knocking at their door.

As he continued on his walk, he felt the eyes of the remaining people on him.

They stared at him with a mixture of caution and fear.

Some recoiled as he passed, their faces pale and their eyes wide with a lingering terror.

"Ahh looks like they remember my face huh..!, Ruel realized, a dark smile playing on his lips. "They saw what I did by the RV. Good. Let them be afraid. "

"Fear is a powerful motivator."

He vanished into the deepening shadows as the last rays of the sun dipped below the horizon, his movements silent and swift, a predator melting into the night.

Meanwhile, in a more secure part of the base, Anya and Elara were consumed with worry.

"They should have been back hours ago," Anya said, pacing restlessly. Her usual composure was frayed, her face etched with anxiety.

"The scavenging team... they were supposed to return before sunset."

Elara, ever loyal and pragmatic, tried to offer reassurance.

"They're experienced, Madam. They know the risks. Perhaps they found something valuable and were delayed."

But Anya shook her head, her voice filled with dread. "No. Something's wrong."

"If they were to take spend time outside, they woudl have informed us already."

"They did not even take any radio this time."

Please calm down madam, everything will be ok" consoled Elara as she held her down.

How can i be calm elara, they were a third of our fighting force."

"If we lose them..." Her voice trailed off, the unspoken fear hanging heavy between them.

She dismissed Elara, her voice weary. "I need some space. Please... ."

Elara bowed her head and left, leaving Anya alone with her thoughts.

After a while Anya made her way to a private room, a small, dimly lit space where her comatose husband lay motionless.

Anya collapsed beside his bed, her shoulders shaking as she finally allowed herself to grieve.

"Oh, Qingdi," she sobbed, her voice raw with pain and frustration.

"What am I going to do? They're tearing this base apart. I'm losing them. I'm losing you... I'm losing everything."

She poured out her heart, her fears, her doubts, her desperate longing for his return.

She spoke of the factions, the growing unrest, the impossible choices she faced.

She spoke until her voice was hoarse and her tears had dried.

Finally, drained and exhausted, she stood up, ready to leave.

But as she turned, she froze.

In the corner of the room, shrouded in shadow, sat a figure.

The room was deliberately dim, lit only by a faint, flickering light to conserve energy and avoid attracting the attention of any lingering, more intelligent zombies.

Anya's heart leaped into her throat.

She hadn't heard anyone enter. She hadn't sensed any movement. How long had he been there?

The figure slowly rose, stepping out of the darkness. As he moved, the faint light illuminated his face.

It was Ruel.

Anya gasped, her hand flying to her mouth.

Her eyes widened in shock and fear. He stood before her, his expression... almost casual.

A small, unsettling smile played on his lips, a smile that sent a shiver of dread down her spine.
