Chapter 770 The Fortress Of Nature, Part 2
No good night's rest came to Lee Seng. He had managed to ease himself into the new place with boxers and a t-shirt on, but the noises of people coming and going were louder than usual. They droned on and on for hours as he rolled side to side. Lee Seng eventually grew restless and drifted into dreamland. There, he only dreamed of his mother in the cape cod house.
Lee Seng woke up from the dream. He only saw his mother as the Broodmother now. He couldn't even live the lie that the woman he knew was his mother. He drew the rune for time and noted that it was only 4:55am. He had only slept for, maybe, three hours. He let out a sigh and rubbed his eyes. He lifted himself up into a sitting position and looked at the door.
Lee Seng could hear one person snoring softly. There were people stationed outside his room to keep 'watch.' Lee Seng pulled the sheets off him and got up. He walked to the door and grabbed the door and opened it. Two people were sitting to the left and right of the door. The guy on the right looked up at him. He was reading some sort of old book. The guard quickly tucked his bookmark into place and closed the book and stood up. He set the book onto his chair and turned to fully face Lee Seng.
"What do you need?" The guard asked.
"The bathroom. Can I wash up? I can't sleep." Lee Seng told him. The guard looked over at the sleeping guard and kicked his chair. The guy nearly fell out of his chair as he quickly stood up.
"The enemy is here!" The guard shouted.
"Shhh!" The other guard hushed him.
"W-what's going on? Is it already time?" The sleepy guard checked his watch and noticed it was only 4:56am. "W-why did you wake me up? D-did Sergeant wake up?" He looked over to the next door and noticed the door was closed.
"No, he woke up." The other guard motioned to Lee Seng. The sleepy guard spun around and noticed Lee Seng standing in the doorway.
"Having night shift must suck." Lee Seng made small talk. "You should sleep a little longer. Have my bed if you want."
"You can't go anywhere other than the bathroom." The book guard firmly told Lee Seng. Lee Seng folded his arms and sighed. He caught the sleepy guard rubbing his eyes and fully taking in Lee Seng. "You can wash up, but you have to stay in here until then."
"I'm not going to sleep anymore. Is there some sort of equipment room to workout or something? I need to shake some stuff off." Lee Seng asked. Before the book guard could say anything, the sleepy guard spoke first.
"We're not supposed to take you anywhere, but there is a drill course outside those doors over there." The sleep guard pointed down the hallway. He looked at the book guard. "We were told to just watch him. If he tries to flee, the other guards have opportunities to take him down."
"But, Sergeant said—" Book guard began when the sleepy guard raised his hand.
"Go on and wash up. I'll personally take you to the drill course, Fox."
Lee Seng nodded and headed off to the bathroom. The book guard turned to glare at the sleep guard.
"Jefferson, we can't do that!" The book guard quietly hissed. "Sarg is gonna rip us a new one if he finds out!"
"He wants to workout…" Jefferson whispered back. "Aren't you curious what he can do?" Jefferson and the book guard glanced at Lee Seng entering the bathroom. They both turned and walked to the bathroom. Jefferson tapped the book guard and looked at him. "We can get an idea of what he's capable of and tell the Sarg. It'll be handy to get information off him, Tom." f𝓇𝘦𝒆𝘄𝑒𝗯𝑛𝗼ѵ𝙚l.𝒄𝘰𝓶
"I don't like this." Tom sighed. "Let's just play it safe." Jefferson waved him off and peaked into the bathroom. Lee Seng was standing at one of the urinals relieving himself. Unbeknownst to them, he could hear them whispering. Lee Seng finished his business and moved to the sink and cleaned his hands and cleaned his face. He dried his hands and face and exited the bathroom.
"Is the drill course hard?" Lee Seng asked the guards. Jefferson and Tom turned in unison and Jefferson shook his head yes while Tom shook his head no.
"Don't listen to this guy." Tom smacked Jefferson. "He's new. Of course, it'd be hard for a newbie. It might even be hard for you, Fox."
"I guess that nickname sticks anywhere I go." Lee Seng smiled. "Well, let me get changed quick…" The invisible rune on his hand lit up, glowing for all to see and a small void pocket opened. Lee Seng plucked some clothes out while Tom and Jefferson watched in amusement.
"What's that?" Jefferson asked, coming a bit closer.
"A Void Storage rune." Lee Seng answered.
"Don't ask questions." Tom pulled Jefferson back. "We don't have to know." Lee Seng slipped on some shorts and pulled his t-shirt off. Tom's eyes flicked down and Jefferson followed suit.
"Holy god, you're toned!" Jefferson complimented Lee Seng. Lee Seng smiled and looked down. He tossed the old t-shirt in and plucked a red shirt. Jefferson's hand went straight for Lee Seng's shoulders. Tom intersected Jefferson and pulled his arm back.
"No." Tom shook his head.
"I'm honestly shocked my body even retained some of this muscle." Lee Seng told them as he slipped the shirt on. "I was bedridden for a bit."
"Ho-how long? A couple months?" Jefferson asked. Tom glared at Jefferson, who ignored the grumpy bookworm.
"No… More like a couple years." Lee Seng shook his head. Tom's eyes widened.
"And you look like that? You must've had to ease back into the swing of things then, hm?" Tom asked. Jefferson gave Tom a shit-eating grin. Lee Seng pulled some socks and shoes out and closed the Void. He set his shoes on the floor and slipped his socks on.
"Medicine does wonders." Lee Seng told them. "I recovered in… a couple months."
"What kind of medicine are you taking because we could use some of that." Jefferson asked. Lee Seng smiled and slipped his shoes on and straightened his back.
"Fox medicine." Lee Seng answered. "Where's the drill course?"
The drill course was out the back of the barracks. It was reminiscent of a course that got you high and low. Worn tires, scalable walls, nets, etc. all together to make the perfect course to get your blood going. Lee Seng's eyes scanned the air and noticed there were floating platforms. He turned to look at Tom and Jefferson, pointing at it. Jefferson was already looking at him, smiling.
"Those are aerial courses. Sometimes we do aerial drills." Jefferson explained. "I haven't had to go up there yet, but Tom tells me it's hard."
"One wrong move and you're plummeting down into the course below you." Tom whistled as he mimicked someone splatting onto the course below. "I wouldn't recommend it. Even the ones able to fly or float hates it."
"Oho?" Lee Seng's eyes glimmered as he rubbed his hands together. "I guess I'll have to try it after I dust this course!" He clapped his hands and moved towards the start. Jefferson looked at Tom before hopping after Lee Seng.
"Fox! A-are you sure you wanna do it? I-it's a pain in the ass to get up there!" Jefferson asked. Lee Seng stretched his limbs as he sucked in a breath of cold Spring air. He loved mornings like this where it was barely even sure the Fox could even get up there.
"We'd have to get you strapped up on a pulley to get up there!" Tom informed Lee Seng. Lee Seng turned and smiled at them.
"If you're so worried about it, why don't I do it first, hm?" Lee Seng asked. Before Tom and Jefferson could say anything, Lee Seng squatted down, arms behind him. He jumped upwards swinging his arms forward and soared through the air. Lee Seng flew past the floating course and spun in the air.
"Ah, it feels so good!" Lee Seng shouted. His tails appeared as he started to descend.
"Ah!" Jefferson panicked. "Tom, what do we do?!?"
"H-he really is a Fox…" Tom muttered.
"Tom! He's gonna die!" Jefferson shook Tom's arm. Tom stuttered as they watched Lee Seng abruptly come to a stop. Lee Seng landed on the platform with ease and smiled. He turned and looked down at the two guards. Tom and Jefferson's jaws were dropped. Their eyes bug-eyed as they stared at Lee Seng. Lee Seng noticed his tails and waved at Tom and Jefferson with them.
"You wanted to know what I'm capable of, right?!?" Lee Seng shouted. "Well, just watch! I'm gonna smoke this course!" Lee Seng sprinted forward, sliding onto his back as his tails disappeared and nets appeared above him. The nets quickly passed, and Lee Seng lifted himself up, noticing the edge was coming.
"How far are they from each other, T-Tom?" Jefferson asked.
"At least ten feet." Tom answered.
"Do you think he's gonna—HOLY SHI—"
Lee Seng ran off the edge soaring through the sky and landing on the next platform. The platform rocked as Lee Seng continued forward. He climbed the scalable wall and then jumped off the edge onto the next platform twenty feet below. The platform shook as Lee Seng moved forward climbing the net. Tom and Jefferson watched Lee Seng in amazement as he quickly made his way to the next platform They continued to watch until Lee Seng reached the last platform hovering above water.
"Woohoo!" Lee Seng shouted jumping in the air. He plunged into the cold water, bubbles erupting around him as a smile grew on his face.
