Chapter 516: + - +
Jael couldn’t help but approve of Davian’s priorities, "Not quite." He replied brusquely, unable to hide his disappointment that something as basic as a bodyguard hadn’t been gotten for Rosie. "I found a lecher on her property last night, complete with the binoculars." He deliberately provided details.
The line went quiet for a while, almost like Davian was trying to wrap his head around his words. "Who was it?"
The danger threading through Davian’s words made him do a double take. "I already took care of him," He informed the Mafia King, his disapproval fading in the face of Davian’s anger.
"I know. Can’t have people thinking I’m a philanthropist. Who was it?"
Jael knew exactly what the Mafia King meant, a lot of people were going to be dying for the mistake of some moron. He didn’t hold back any information, generously informing the Mafia King about the attempt on his secretary’s life at a function.
Rosie had wanted to keep it to herself till they returned so she wouldn’t disrupt their honeymoon, and Jael had been perfectly fine with that until the incident last night happened.
He could completely see why Rosie wouldn’t need protection, there was no worry of danger if no one dared to cross Davian. The Mafia King preferred the shadows but there was a reason he was the most influential Mafia King.
"Lake isn’t going to be happy to hear that," Davian said in a dark voice, sounding completely unhappy about it himself.
Jael could see why Rosie would rather keep the attack a secret, if Davian was so agitated, Lake might very well cut their vacation short.
He was no longer worried about Rosie, he could easily keep her safe until Davian returned, but after that, there would be no need to, her Mafia King was also off his hinges.
"Rosie doesn’t know about the trespasser," He tagged on, also mentioning Luis Caddel’s appearance and briefing the Mafia King on the changes in Rosie’s living arrangements.
After the call, he grabbed his sandwich and made his way back to the fourth floor, much calmer than he had been before the call.
He had a feeling that he wouldn’t be bumping into any danger for the rest of his time as Rosie’s bodyguard, at least, none from Davian’s turf.
By the time Rosie stepped out of the boardroom and came searching for him, he was long done with his sandwich.
Rosie leaned against the door with a tired look in her eyes, "It’s days like this I really miss my boss," She murmured, waiting for him to get to his feet and come over.
"Do you still have another board meeting today?" He had to ask.
"What do you think?" Rosie’s response was dry, she stepped out of the break room, leading the way down the hallway.
"Want to grab some blueberries on our way back?" Jael found himself offering, Rosie worked so hard that right then, he would be fine with letting her eat her favorite fruit until she actually went blue.
Rosie’s tired eyes brightened instantly, "No take backs!" She said hastily, a slight skip to her steps the rest of the way down to the parking lot.
Jael’s smile was faint as he got into the car, maybe the blueberries weren’t so bad after all.

Silvia let Angelo sleep for as long as he wanted, her mind wandering. Her wine bottle was empty but she made no move to request for more.
She really wished that the deal with Luis Caddel would be over quickly and swiftly but she knew it wouldn’t be that easy. She glanced down at Angelo who was fast asleep and literally clinging to her arm.
Silvia was beginning to realize that if it meant that she had to go into hiding with Angelo, completely leaving Haines to protect him, she would...
Angelo slowly roused then, it was late in the afternoon, sunset right around the corner.
Her smile was reflexive when she saw him yawn and stretch. Angelo had lost his coldness, he was no longer like a programmed robot, carrying out revenge on his mother’s killers. His features were softer, his eyes more expressive.
It was difficult to maintain her opinion of Nikolai when he was the one who helped Angelo slowly find what it was like to live for himself again.
"Still sleepy?" She asked quietly, her voice coming out softer than she intended.
Angelo stifled another yawn, "You should have woken me up earlier," He murmured. "Don’t you have things to do down at the company?"
"Not quite," Silvia replied, her tone completely free of regrets. "What do you want to do tomorrow?"
"You don’t have to babysit me," Angelo rose to his feet, "I’m fine staying indoors."
"Alright then, if you need anything, just let me know." Silvia jumped on the genrous life line that had been offered to her.
"I’m starving," Angelo grumbled, heading for the door.
Silvia’s smile didn’t fade as she went after him, "Want to eat out?"
"We can order in at the company and then go home together." Angelo suggested, his hands in his pockets, his hair loose around his shoulders.
Silvia sped up so she was walking right next to him, in a good mood. If only things could just stay like this, with Angelo getting to live the quiet mundane life he deserved.
But after catching the attention of a Mafia King, things were more likely to get worse before they got better.
They got back into the car and headed to Frequency, Silvia enthusiastically browsing through her phone for what they would get for dinner.
Angelo was glum the entire ride but even then, he was more vocal than he usually was, she couldn’t help but think it was an improvement.
Silvia knew without being told that Angelo was sulky over Nikolai, but she wisely didn’t bring it up, she had a secret to hide after all. And it was to her benefit if Angelo reciprocated whatever it was Nikolai felt towards him, she would prefer if it wasn’t completely one-sided because there was clearly no getting Mafia king Nikolai off after he had latched on.
