And she was right.
He wouldn't open the door.
"You're being very immature," she called. "You should at least let me explain." The silence from inside the room did not deter her. "I just want you to know that as much as I hate you, I would never intentionally drug or maim you," she proclaimed with utmost sincerity.
The fact that she even needed to say such a thing to her enemy was not something she was proud of.
She peeked through the tiny window on the door but the glass was frosted and she couldn't see a thing.
"Apart from all those times that you were a real jerk to me, I apologize…" She folded her arms tightly over herself. "Like, the first time we saw each other. You were just plain rude."
Yun Qian Meng looked around to find something to pick the lock with. One of her male classmates in college had taught her. There were certain situations that it came in handy through the years.
"I remember how you called me a mindless school girl!" she shouted at the door. "That was uncalled for." She still searched the area as she spoke.
There was complete silence on the other side. She placed her ear against it and heard nothing. He probably wasn't even listening to her. She understood that he wouldn't open the door even if she berated him. It also seemed that her skills in apologizing were a bit lacking.
She took a cleansing breath.
"It wasn't a mistake for you to trust me. I didn't know you trusted me. But as an arch-nemesis and your business partner, I will tell you that I will take care." She stopped and thought about what she was going to say next. "I don't betray people." Well, that was a little lie.
"Well, if you were an observant person, you would know…" she goaded. There was some movement on the other side. Her lips turned into a smirk.
She remembered the hairpin she had used to keep my towel up and used it on the lock.
"Well, I'll just ask one of your employees to lead me to my room. I'm sure you would like that."
Within seconds, she had the door open and was standing in the large room. To her surprise, Mo Qingchen was standing near the door, wearing something like a boxing glove, his eyes on fire. He must have been walking over to open the door. The last sentence must have gotten to him.
She tucked the clip back onto the towel.
"Lock picking," he said dangerously as he went back to the punching bag at the center of the room. "What? I didn't know they taught you that in university."
He moved with such crushing force. It was far beyond anything she had ever seen. She'd witnessed rowdy brawls at parties but Mo Qingchen's speed and precision just completely took her breath away.
She stood there speechless as she watched him pummel the punching bag relentlessly, using a mixture of deadly kicks and punches. Now she knew not to get on his bad side; he would round-house kick her into the afterlife.
To her absolute horror, she was turned on. Incredibly turned on, beyond all sense and reason. With hatred came curiosity and attraction. She ached in areas she didn't know existed. Well, she was not an animal so she wouldn't pounce on him like one.
What the hell was wrong with her?
This man was her enemy. That part was a bit debatable now that she was living under the same roof as him but yes. At least as a business partner.
The horribly sinful, naughty images flashed through her mind.
Okay, what was going on with her? She had seen many a naked man before (lots of after parties). Albeit the fact that Mo Qingchen's body was magnificent. But sexual thoughts were strictly forbidden. Not even a possibility.
'Completely off the table,' she thought. 'But the floor would be a good option, too.' Another part of her brain suggested quickly. She was out of control. Maybe she was still high. That had to be it. Yes, it was all Marcus' fault, damn that cookie. He would pay.
She stood there for a long time, shamelessly drooling over Mo Qingchen. She found her feet slowly approaching him the second he halted his workout.
"Amazing," she said bluntly. Her filter had left her brain.
Mo Qingchen was covered in sweat. Normally, she wouldn't find this sort of thing attractive. His sweat though… it glistened. He actually seemed to sparkle under the direct light. What was this? A vampire from The Twilight Saga? The man had pretty sweat.
How crazy was that?
Definitely high. What other possible explanation could there be? Mo Qingchen grabbed a towel and wiped his forehead before turning to me.
"I have no time to let you watch me. I'll summon you to dinner when it is ready," he said coolly. f𝚛e𝗲𝔀e𝚋𝑛o𝘃𝒆𝗹.c𝗼𝒎
"Summon me?" Her back stiffened. The words sounded awfully like what her father would say.
He nodded, tossing the towel over his shoulder. "Yes, we need to discuss some of the details about the 1314 agreement before we meet Jiang Da to sign with him. Do you have a problem with that, Miss Yun?" He was testing her.
"I do, actually," she replied. "I find the word 'summon' offensive." She stepped closer to him.
"Do you?" he had a smug look on his face.
Another step towards him effectively backed him up against the battered punching bag. "Does it make you feel powerful to summon people, Mr. Mo?" She placed her hand on either side of him, trapping him in front of her.
