Chapter 260 - Steel Cubes
260 Steel Cubes
In most circumstances, being faced with hundreds of weaker demons was not a problem that Blake would concern himself with.
His and Cyra’s dark flames were the perfect tool to wipe out a large number of enemies by simply staying still in their place and throwing dark flame fireballs everywhere. Blake would need to also fly and maneuver in the air if the enemies were like the horde of bison that recklessly charged forward, but if it was just a random horde of humanoid demons, then he didn’t even need to bother moving from his place to deal with them.
However, that was in most circumstances. Right now, not only did Blake and his group were located right in the middle of their enemies, not in front of them, which means that they need to constantly keep in check of all the directions around him to keep his enemies off bay, but they were also being threatened by stronger enemies that couldn’t simply be dealt with just using a few spells.
In this position, Blake and the group had to fight both the humanoid demons from the second realm and the horde of humanoid demons, which would put them in a very disadvantageous spot since the weaker humanoid demons would also be a problem if there were enough of them.
And seeing the sheer number of them that filled Blake’s vision everywhere he sees, there was definitely enough of them to be a problem for Blake and his group.
This situation was certainly not expected by Blake who had been cautious enough with his surroundings and he never underestimated his enemies, hence why he kept the long distance between himself and the three humanoid demons while they were talking before.
But who would have thought that the scrawny humanoid demon was able to manifest a spell that did not only mask the presence of hundreds of humanoid demons but also created an illusion of the base and the environment all around it without him or Vera noticing.
Looking at the many accessories that the scrawny humanoid demon was wearing, Blake squinted his eyes as he began thinking to himself, ‘Is this what Vera meant when she said fighting a rune master is very dangerous and many demons avoided having conflicts with them…?’
Blake then thought about the rune formations that he had prepared in his dimensional pouch. There were many kinds of different rune formations there that could be used in various situations. From creating a simple hole in the ground to the ones that created a dome to isolate his enemies, Blake had several of them ready to be used if the situation needed it.
.....
Blake thought that his preparations were enough to be able to get him out of sticky situations or take advantage of huge opportunities that suddenly came out of the blue. 𝗳𝔯e𝒆𝙬𝘦𝙗𝓷o𝘷el. c૦𝑚
However, when he saw what kind of preparations the scrawny humanoid demon did, one that probably involved large scale spells and very careful planning to be able to trap him inside a horde of humanoid demons without him realizing it, Blake realized how shallow his preparations were compared to a real runemaster.
It was a good lesson to let himself know about how dangerous a rune master could be and how he should tread in the future if he were to ever clash against another rune master, but that’s only if he succeeded in getting past this current ordeal.
Fortunately for Blake though, although the scrawny humanoid demon was certainly a more experienced rune master than he was, Blake had another rune master in his team. One that had far more experience compared to the scrawny humanoid demon from the second demon realm.
“Blake! Power this with your nether!” Blake suddenly heard a shout coming from beside him.
When he turned his head, Blake saw a cube was thrown at him, one that looked very similar to the wooden cubes that Vera used to store her rune formations, but this time, the cube was made out of some kind of light metal instead of wood.
Catching the flying cube, Blake set aside his questions for later as he began to power the cube with his nether while Vera was holding a cube of her own and also began powering it with her own nether.
Seeing the intricate and complex runes written all over the steel cube, Blake thought that it would definitely take more than just a little bit of nether to activate the spell contained inside the steel cube. And when it took enough nether to cast 1-and-a-half second realm darkness spells, Blake wasn’t surprised at all and instead continued to supplement the steel cube with his nether.
He didn’t know what Vera was up to, but he knew that he could trust anything that she did as the best course of action for their current predicament.
Different from the cube in Blake’s hand that needed a massive amount of nether to activate, the cube in Vera’s hand didn’t need that much at all despite also being made on a steel cube instead of a wooden one.
Taking enough nether as any ordinary spell, the rune formation inscribed in the other steel cube manifested itself as several white flashes of nether shot off the steel cube as they made their way to their targets.
There were a total of 7 flashes of lights that came out of the steel cube and each and every one of them had its own target.
One instantly hit its target as the target was none other than Vera herself, while 3 others also quickly hit their targets as Blake, Robus, and Cyra were also hit by the white light.
As for the remaining three, they made their way forward, moving at a bullet speed as they soon hit the three humanoid demons that stood some distance away from Blake’s current position.
Of course, the three humanoid demons tried to dodge the flashes of light that were about to hit them. But whatever spell or any kind of attempt to block it using their bodies was fruitless as the flashes of light easily went past those and quickly hit the bodies of the humanoid demons.
“Vera, it’s ready!” Blake shouted as he finally felt the rune formation in his hands had stopped eating his nether.
“Throw it up high!” Vera quickly shouted back after she was sure all flashes of light had hit their targets.
