Chapter 192: Abandoned Believers of the God! Breached City!

Chapter 192: Abandoned Believers of the God! Breached City!

Link stood in the crowd, listening to the prayers that sounded in the psychological network. He indistinctly sensed a strange feeling.

It seemed like he didn’t belong here; he was out of harmony with everything around him.

Was it an illusion?

All of a sudden, Link felt the watching of a gaze. He turned his head slightly and met a pair of deep eyes.

The look emitted from that pair of eyes was as commanding as the vast skies, yet they also carried a deep ocean-like profoundness.

Link’s countenance froze slightly—that was the great sage’s gaze.

On the tall platform in front of the Enlightenment Temple, the great sage and Link’s gazes met.

For a moment, it was as if the surrounding clansmen had turned into a gray background.

The great sage’s eyes seemed to carry inexplicable contemplation, but it was fleeting, and he quickly looked away.

The strange feeling in Link’s heart grew stronger. Right now, he was even more certain that he must’ve lost something.

Suddenly, a jarring alarm sounded—it was the golden bell hanging in the center of the Holy City.

In usual times, it would swing by itself, issuing moving notes. This allowed the entire city to be immersed in gentle music. However, the present ringing was hurried and sharp; it made everyone’s heartstrings tense instantly!

A piece of appalling bad news swiftly spread through the psychological network!

“Alert! Whole city alert! Evil beings! The evil beings have attacked the city! The outer defense line has been breached—the outer city has fallen!”

The tens of thousands of people in the square instantly turned restless!

“How could this be? Wasn’t it previously said that the evil beings had eased their offense?”

“This is the Holy City, Atlan—the land protected by the god, the god’s palace. It is extremely sturdy; how could the outer city be breached so quickly?”

“Evil beings! My parents and younger brother all died in their hands...”

“Where is our god? Has the high priest not managed to contact Him? Why is He still not showing up to save His children?”

Some people shouted in surprise.

Some people shuddered in fear.

Others were reminded of the painful memories that were mixed with blood and tears and were crying out loud.

The psychological network was filled with all sorts of noisy sounds and became extremely chaotic.

Link furrowed his brows; he almost wanted to cut off his connection to the public psychological network.

Aisha—who was at the side—was deathly pale. Fear and resentment had risen in her eyes, and her small hand was gripping the corner of his clothes tightly.

The majority of the people directed their gazes toward the high priest, who was seated and meditating before the pillar of light.

The periphery of the Holy City was already breached. In the arduous battle that lasted multiple months, the majority of the high-level Mages and Warriors had been worn away.

Everybody in the square was people with insignificant capabilities; they could only place their hopes on the sea god’s remedy.

Tens of thousands of gazes gathered on the high priest like spotlights.

The high priest—who was meditating—seemed to be able to sense the situation of the outside world. Beads of sweat covered his aged forehead; He had clearly already done all in his power.

All of a sudden, the high priest’s countenance turned pale at once. His body started shaking, and fresh blood even flowed from his ears and nose.

This was an expression of drained mental strength and vitality!

Hints of deep worry that couldn’t be dissolved had emerged on the faces of the great sage and Lanzhi Sage at the side.

A few breaths later, the high priest opened his eyes, but he didn’t say anything. Facing the gazes of countless people, he only lowered his head dejectedly.

But the people had already caught sight of his face that had instantly aged and the deep exhaustion and despair in his eyes.

He has failed...

The god didn’t respond; He has abandoned His children!

We’ve become the god’s abandoned children!

Boom!

As if they were struck by lightning, everyone’s minds instantly went black. Only buzzing ceaselessly sounded by their ears.

The race’s public psychological network suddenly became quiet.

The drop of a needle could be heard; it was a deathly stillness.

Despair and fear blew across everyone’s hearts like the wind and grew madly in there.

Countenances of countless people became ashen. Death-like despair spread in their eyes and almost flowed out of their sockets.

Their hope was as great as the disappointment. Their hopes in their god had ultimately led to despair!

Someone howled like he had gone mad. “We no longer have any hope. The Holy City will be annihilated; we’re all going to die!”

“The entire race will be destroyed. We have been abandoned by the sea god! Why? We were so pious!” Someone complained about the god’s unjustness.

Tears silently slid down faces as sobs, cries, and shouts resounded without a break like the tempestuous tides.

The great sage—who was always dignified and wise—had his brows tightly knitted, completely helpless. He knew that it was useless to say anything right now.

They were already a group of people without any hope.

Link looked at the chaotic square and the despairing crowd. There seemed to be an indistinct stir in his heart as a strong stinging sensation suddenly rose in his mind!

Link reached out to hold his head, his face pale.

The wind that came blowing already carried the strong scent of fresh blood. Yells and footsteps sounded, coming closer and closer.

The inner city’s defense line was hanging by a thread; the Holy City was on the brink of falling.

A large number of people—who had broken down in the square—burst out crying and fell to the ground.

The great sage and Lanzhi Sage charged into the sky, and a vast aura spread from them.

They could no longer care to console the crowd’s emotions. They rushed to the defense line with a few Mages.

Link squeezed out of the chaotic crowd with Aisha in tow, wanting to head to the defense line as well. However, the evil beings’ speed of attack had far exceeded everyone’s imagination.

Buildings abruptly collapsed; the evil beings had already torn past the defense lines and surged into the Holy City.

Fighters and Mages were forced to fall back and retreat in defeat continuously. Fresh blood spread on the streets endlessly.

Link had just walked out of the square when he had smelled the strong metallic and fishy scent.

The evil beings’ army was at the end of the road’ there were up to 100 of them.

These evil beings that brought calamity all looked extremely strange and wicked.

Flat heads, muddy and convex frog eyes, grayish-green skin—they were like frogmen. There were even fine fish scales on some of their bodies...

In front of this team, there were still a few defeated troops. They were entirely covered in blood; their clothes were tattered, looking extremely miserable.

“Run quickly!” Snarls sounded in the bottom of Link’s heart, putting him in a trance.

Run?

Where else can we run to?

This was already inside the city; behind him was the Enlightenment Temple and large numbers of people. They had long had no escape.

Shoo shoo!

The sound of wind being pierced sounded!

Harpoons with seaweed were thrown out. The foul wind came in waves and penetrated those few defeated troops that were fleeing!

The evil beings came running excitedly and tore into the delicacies before them with strange laughter.

Flesh was torn, and blood splattered.

The evil beings were like wild beasts pouncing on their prey. Attracted by the bodies, they surrounded them in layers.

And the remaining evil beings had their eyes on Link and Aisha, who were in the distance.

Roars exploded by their ears—the great sage and Lanzhi Sage were already fighting the powerhouses among the evil beings.

People who could be addressed as sages were powerful existences who had reached the Sage-stage. Hence, the commotion of the battle was huge.

Beside him, Aisha’s body was stiff. Her face was ghastly pale, clearly terrified by the bloody scene before her eyes.

The evil beings pounced over with screams; this was a hopeless situation...
