Chapter 26: Let’s Do a Quest!

Chapter 26: Let's Do a Quest!

Leon dragged himself to his feet before flinging his coat around his shoulders. He noticed low voices coming from the adjacent bedroom.

"Those girls seem quite excited."

He noticed various changes after he woke up. His Mana flowed faster, a raging tide, allowing him to cast magic faster.

Their chatter diminished to hushed whispers after he moved—but Leon ignored them. Instead, walking towards the exit.

'Ifrit, what else changed.'

Despite his improved vision, the evolution didn't make him invincible. When he tried jumping. Leon didn't become a jumping spider.

Thus, he sought Ifrit's advice.

[I am not sure]

'What?'

Her sudden lack of information shocked Leonhardt.

Ifrit held an important meaning to Leon, she was unique and interesting. She also helped him ever since he found himself in that dark dungeon alone.

[Because of your Fae and Djinn bloodlines, I couldn't analyse their effects on each other.]

'Is it that complicated?'

Leon descended the stairs while speaking with Ifrit.

He planned to visit the dungeon and meet with Zafira, worried about her. Despite knowing her strength, Leon couldn't relax.

[I'm sure you'll discover what you need. Focus on magic for now.]

'Hm...'

Despite wanting to complain, he could only breathe deep. His evolution didn't quite change anything obvious, made him conflicted.

He noticed people watching him and tested his new eyesight. Ifrit mentioned pouring Mana into his eyes would help.

Leon decided he could trust her and shut his eyes.

Woosh

His two hearts thumped, every beat pushing Mana enriched blood through Leon's organs.

The Djinn blood carried faint heat, energising his muscles. His Fae blood pumped a cool, relaxing chill, soothing his organs. Both elements mixed, creating a constant cycle of hot and cold.

Leon couldn't feel Mana with ease before his evolution, but now he could. Able to direct, control and focus the fire and wind elements inside him.

[Damn monster!]

'Hmm?'

Ifrit commented on him, but Leon became too focused on his magic. His footsteps slowed as he opened his eyes.

Vwoom

Leon could immediately see things in a 360-degree view.

A ripple of Mana flooded his mind with detailed information. Two men sat drinking behind him. A woman whispered something to her party members before dropping her coins.

'This is my power?'

The magic allowed him to tap into his spider bloodline. This allowed Leon to observe around him in immense detail. But during this, his eyes would glow with a dim red light.

[Though your changes are quite minimal this time, your skin looks fantastic!]

[That crazy bitch created you for a specific reason.]

[No wonder she used only the most handsome, or beautiful monsters.]

'Don't be jealous, you're my only dungeon wife.'

Leon knew Ifrit rarely showed her emotions.

But because she bombarded him with messages, he realised she was enjoying herself. After realising that fact, his lips curled upward, forming a wide grin.

'Let's go.'

Leon observed the village, a place now completely under his control. Not only did his dungeon influence cover this area, but now it reached the nearest city.

He understood this wasn't completely good and came with various dangers.

'The woman who created me, was she actually crazy?'

While he avoided getting dragged into a conversation with the villagers.

Leon tried to maintain his focus and pumped Mana into his eyes. He wondered what his pupils looked like after he evolved.

[The arch mage wasn't a normal woman.]

Ifrit's cryptic message made Leon curious about the woman who created him. Though he somehow doubted they would ever meet, rather he hoped to avoid her. Leon felt she would complicate his life or try to kill him.

'How so?'

[She created you!]

Leon's lips trembled as his eyes twitched. Unable to defend himself from Ifrit's snap response, he frowned. He didn't mind her insults or complaints because when things became difficult. Because she would always save his life, or protect him.

The village exit came into view.

While he pinned the silver mercenary badge on his chest. He knew the guard wouldn't stop him again, becoming happy. Leon noticed the older guard squinting at him from behind before grumbling.

"Don't die, kid, the forest is full of goblins right now, be careful."

'That was nice of him.'

[Your standards are far too low!]

Leon understood Ifrit's meaning, so he ignored her and headed towards the north. He missed Zafira's sharp tongue and the black rabbit that always greeted him at the door.

"Hey Kid, stop!" A sudden voice with a rough tone called out.

'These damned mercenaries, so annoying.'

"Keke, did you think hiding with some women for a few days would trick us?"

'Another one...'

[How about you try winning by casting no spells?]

'None? What's my reward?'

Ifrit's Happiness will increase!

Leonhardt couldn't help but smirk to himself while gazing at the two men behind him. He stepped forward right with his right leg before summoning the greatsword used by Axel.

'You win this time, Ifrit.'

He extended his hand while the sword manifested, watching the movements of the two men behind him. Leon noticed one wore two swords on his waist. The other carried a dagger and a belt with bottles of liquid.

'Those bottles look dangerous.'

Leon didn't understand what caused him to feel that way.

The moment he noticed the bottles, the back of his spine tingled and he sensed danger.

'Some kind of spider sense?'

Ifrit didn't respond, seeming to use this as training for him.

"Come on kid, don't make us work too hard... oi is that the bosses' sword. Tsk Raz, it's him!"

Raz was the dagger-wielding bandit.

"Let's kill him quick, Kev. Before those fucking goblins appear."

The two rushed at Leon together.

Although both weren't ranked high. Their teamwork made them dangerous to new adventurers. Leon dealt with bandits in the past, but the combination of dagger and blade gave him a headache.

Swoosh

Shling

He followed their movements with ease and raised his greatsword to block the blades. Raz attacked the moment the steel weapon collided with Kev's twin blades.

"Ugh!"

Leon's right eye flicked to the right, while his left focused on Kev. His other eye watched Raz moving in slow motion, attempting to stab him.

"Damn this freak."

The dagger approached in slow motion. Leon used his flexible body to avoid the blow and kicked Raz's hand. The force sent his dagger flying and broke one of his fingers.

Crack

"Arrrrgh"

Leon used the handle of his greatsword to push Kev back before twisting his body. He followed up and smashed the bandit's face with a loud crunch.

The blow caused Kev to crumble, rolling back to avoid Leon's possible follow-up attack.

Leon felt the tingle down his spine once again.

Then his pupils twitched in pain as his brain scanned his surroundings. He saw everything moving in slow motion, including the small rock heading towards him.

'Rock? No, that's one of those bottles.'

[Dangerous, avoid it, Leon.]
