Chapter 30: The Dark Elf Sanctuary I

Chapter 30: The Dark Elf Sanctuary I

Leonhardt and Zafira walked through the forest, following his map. The scent of earth and fresh pine filled the air, carried by the wind.

He noticed that the closer to the west—the thicker and older the trees. He clawed at the rough bark of the ancient trees.

'These are some beautiful trees.'

Because of his Fae heritage, Leonhardt could understand nature to a certain degree. Leon sniffed the air around the tree as a sweet scent filled his nose.

"Their sap should be sweet and edible, humans would love this."

Leon observed the western forest and found this location was quite safe. The Alpha wolf lived to the south in his den.

He admired the ancient trees that towered above.

Their branches blocked most of the light, but their bark radiated warmth. Leon sucked the air, enjoying the sweet aroma.

'This place... it feels right.'

Zafira paced ahead, her fusion of grace and seduction mysterious. Her movement left the fallen leaves untouched while swaying her plump hips as her tail danced in the air.

"The forest is thick with Mana, Leonhardt. The perfect place to establish a sanctuary. I like it." Her golden eyes twinkled in the dim light, scanning the forest with keen interest.

Leon found the way she combined the charm of a succubus and the grace of a princess fascinating.

"Why do you like it so much?"

Zafira turned back with glowing eyes. Then narrowed her gaze and smirked before flapping her wings and pointing to the north.

"There, the elevated land. It overlooks the forest. We could have the elves build an outpost and protect the forest. Along with the eastern entrance."

Zafira then hopped across the underbrush, where the trickling of water sounded. "And fresh water is nearby, any settlement needs a reliable water source."

He couldn't help but find her invaluable to him. Leon might have noticed these things while developing his dungeon and territory.

"Also, the water comes from above that elevated land, allowing the elves to protect it, right?"

Leonhard watched her gaze, remaining silent. The gesture of her wings, how she pointed and flicker her tail. All her subtle hints guided and taught him.

He flooded Mana into his eyes, watching the forest. His Arachne Vision allowed him to see the advantages.

The mountain would block off potential attacks from adventurers. At the same time, thick foliage protected them to the south, creating a natural wall.

"Though there is danger from the west, thanks to the outpost, nobody will catch the elves off guard."

Leon's eyes closed before he muttered. "A natural choke point. If we reinforced this area, it would become a second fortress."

Zafira's golden eyes shone as her wings fluttered at his answer. "Now you're thinking like a ruler."

Leonhardt checked the dungeon menu with a sharp gaze. He flicked through the other structures and hovered over the Dark Elf Sanctuary.

'5000 DP, a steep cost, but—'

[Confirm Purchase?]

He couldn't help but smirk at Zafira's expectant face. "Do it."

Bzzzt!

The moment he chose the sanctuary and placed it.

A pulse of energy shook the ground, causing ripples through the clearing. The ground trembled as purple runes burned into the soil and spread through the forest.

The moment after, it stopped. A dark mist coiled around the nearest tree, forming jagged pillars of obsidian stone. Many trees bent as if bowing in submission to the new, divine presence within the forest.

Then silence followed.

Leon gasped at the dissipating mist, which revealed a new structure.

A sanctuary formed from smooth, dark stone. Its spire reached towards the sky, like the fangs of a beast. Mysterious words woven into the walls, written in the ancient Elvish language.

A language of the forgotten etched into its surface. But different from high elves, a dark flame flickered at the top, with an eerie atmosphere.

Leon felt a shift in the air before a sweet and alluring scent filled his nose. Deadly flowers started blooming, including black roses that filled the forest.

The Dark Elves arrived.

A low resonant hum filled the air.

Zafira's eyes snapped towards the portal, while Leonhardt could feel the shift in atmosphere the moment the sanctuary finished building.

'A song?'

He noticed the hum transformed into a gentle hymn. Low and comforting, but filled with sorrow and loss. "It feels like the forest is holding its breath." The obsidian spires pulsed with dim violet light in sync with the hymn.

Then, the first voice rose.

A whisper at first, like wind stirring the dead leaves. Then another followed until the overlapping murmurs became a haunting and melodic chant.

"A beautiful hymn, to their fallen race." Zafira seemed different to Leon, more serious than normal.

The dark energy thickened, drawing into the heart of the sanctuary like a vortex.

[Hymn: Birth of the Dark Elves]

The air cracked apart.

Veils of darkness spread from the central altar. A deep purple glow erupted from the core, casting long, jagged shapes across the clearing. And then they appeared.

Silhouettes formed within the mist, shifting, writhing.

A delicate hand broke free first, her fingers curling as though grasping for a chance at life. A second figure followed, then a third.

As the mist peeled away, their forms solidified into lean and predatory hunters.

"Oh?"

Dark skin, ranging from dark brown to ashen grey. Hair flowing like woven strands of shadow. Their eyes piercing and luminous gold, shaped as if awakening from a dream.

'Beautiful.'

Leonhardt watched silently as the first dark elves stepped closer.

The tallest among them, a female with jagged scars across her arms, stepped forward. Her gaze focused on Leon as if measuring and searching for something.

Then, without hesitation, she dropped to one knee.

Not long after, the others followed, kneeling in unison with hands pressed against their chest.

"We heed the call, Dungeon Master."

Their voices were layered and harmonious, speaking as one.

Leonhardt tightened his fists while watching. The weight of his role, and future, setting in. These weren't mindless monsters spawned from the abyss. They were people. Soldiers. A race reborn under his command.

Zafira's wings folded as she studied them.

"Dark Elves... creatures once lost to history, now yours to shape. How will you lead them?"

Leonhardt let out a slow breath. His crimson eyes burned with a deep desire.

"I'll make them strong."

The dark elves knelt in absolute silence, waiting.

Leonhardt studied the elves, twenty females, and each one radiated a raw, untamed power. They weren't like his other monsters. They were warriors and a race on the edge of rebirth.

Then, from their ranks, she stepped forward.

Her presence was immediate. A striking woman with deep violet hair flowing past her shoulders, her dark brown skin gleaming under the dim light. But it was her emerald eyes—piercing, unyielding—that held his attention. Unlike the others, she didn't kneel.

Her voice, sharp and unwavering, cut through the stillness.

"Are you worthy enough to command us?"

The tension in the air thickened.

Zafira tilted her head, watching with amusement. "Well, Leonhardt? Looks like you'll have to prove yourself."

Leonhardt met the dark elf's stare, his claws flexing as a slow smirk curved his lips.

"Then watch closely."
