Chapter 631: Not the end yet - Part 2

Chapter 631: Not the end yet - Part 2

"Damn it!" Valerie cursed on seeing the ship sailing away. "Why are we so unlucky today?" She gritted her teeth while the men around her kept fighting Jared's gang members who were still on the port.

Nothing one of her plans had worked tonight and she felt helpless and lost completely. Jared had escaped from her clutches twice in a day. Even though they had foiled his plan, he had still managed to carry out his actions in the end and had released the virus into the air.

The number of people who were affected by it was small. But he had still managed to harm the public and considering Ian's words, the virus did not seem normal. It was highly contagious and anyone who came in contact with an infected person had extremely high chances of getting infected in turn.

The only relief she had was that Maggie had escaped from Jared's clasps. At least, she was safe and sound. Yet, this relief did not appease her and she gnashed her teeth in anger.

Valerie was livid and in her fit of anger, she rushed forward to kill all of Jared's men who were left behind on the port. She did not even care if she was without any protection and if she was all alone. She was frustrated and infuriated and all she had in mind was to kill Jared and his men for harming innocent people for their gains.

"Valerie," Preston shouted on seeing his Deputy's reckless behavior and he nodded at Ryder who nodded at him in return. The tacit understanding between them was impeccable and Ryder took charge while Preston followed Valerie, making sure to keep an eye around him in the meanwhile. f𝑟𝐞𝙚𝘸𝐞𝑏𝙣𝑜v𝑒Ɩ. c𝐨𝙢

Valerie had no idea about Preston following her. Her rationality was clouded by her anger and she kept firing bullets whenever she met someone from the enemy gang. However, she completely missed one of the snipers who was hiding in the main building. If not for Preston killing him before he could get to her, Valerie would have definitely become his victim.

"Thanks." Valerie just mumbled and looked ahead again, not giving him more time.

"Val, wait a moment," Preston shouted and he sprinted as fast as he could to keep up with her. "Val, what's wrong? Why are you...."

"Preston, do not talk to me right now. I am too pissed off. I do not wish to implicate you due to my anger."

Valerie's tone was harsh and Preston took a step back instinctively with his hands raised. The next instant, she noticed a movement from beside him and she shot the man who was trying to make a move, not giving him any chance to attack them first.

"Fine. I will not speak a word. But I will accompany you." Preston was not asking her permission. He was stating it outright and Valerie had no right to reject him. She did not even want to either. She nodded at him and continued to venture forward, putting a bullet through all the enemies on their way. Luckily for them, they were armed with enough bullets and they did not have to worry about being unarmed even for a moment.

Finally, they reached the end of the port where the main building was located. Even though they missed a few targets on their way, the people behind them took care of them. So, Valerie and Preston entered the building quickly.

Something in her mind kept telling her that the place was unsafe and she had to leave from there. However, she pushed the nagging feeling to the back of her mind and kept walking forward with her gun held out in front of her, ready to attack her enemy if they were to pop out suddenly.

Just as she had expected, the building too was filled with Jared's men and Valerie and Preston were engaged in a war of bullets with them. After a few moments, even Ryder joined them while the other men fought the remaining enemies in the port.

The usually calm place was filled with sounds of bullets and screams and everywhere lay dead bodies. While it was mostly Jared's men who had been shot and killed, Valerie's team too suffered during the shootout and some of the people were injured quite severely compared to the others.

Valerie, Preston, Ryder and a few others climbed the building carefully. Just from the look outside, it was clear that this was the main office here and if they were to find anything important, it would be here.

"Val, watch out." Preston cried when he sensed a man hiding behind one of the corridors and he pushed her behind him in time before the man could put a bullet through. His in time reaction to the man's attack saved Valerie from getting injured. However, he was not that fortunate and the bullet hit his left bicep.

Preston hissed in pain and closed his eyes for a moment while Ryder took care of the man who had shot his colleague immediately. The one who was shocked the most was Valarie and she shouted on aguish on seeing the man's white sleeve now dyed red.

"Preston," She came out of her stupor and her fury dwindled instantly when she realized how reckless her actions had been. She had caused her friend to suffer in her mad rage and now, she was filled with immense guilt.

"Are you alright?" Even though she was worried for him, she made sure to keep her voice low.

"I am fine, Val." Preston gritted his teeth and even though his left bicep had gone numb with pain, he stood strong and valiant. "Let's go ahead."

"But..."

"Val, I am fine," Preston assured with a smile and Valerie eventually gave in. It was not a hidden fact that since the moment they had pledged their lives to their work, they would face dangers from everywhere. So, they had to be prepared to take a hit anytime anywhere. And this was not the first time Preston had been shot. He had faced more grave situations than his and Valerie knew that he was alright.

Yet, she could not stop worrying about him. It was her mindless actions that had put him in such a state. And now, she could not go back in time. They had started the war and they had to end it if they wished to get out of the place alive.
