Chapter 674: Rachel’s suspicions - Part 3
Chapter 674: Rachel's suspicions - Part 3
"What happened to Jared? I hope he was captured." Rachel voiced out, her voice laced with fury and hatred and Noah stopped whatever he was doing and turned to face her.
On seeing her brother's dark expression, Rachel realized something to be wrong and she raised her brows askance.
"What's wrong, Noah? Why are you looking at me that way?" Her frown deepened when she did not get any response from her and blinked at him in confusion.
"Jared..." Noah tightened his hold on the spatula and his jaw ticked in frustration. "He escaped from us."
"What?" Rachel was surprised. It was the first time her brother showed her such an expression and she did not know what to make out of it. She could see all of it in his eyes, defeat, anguish, irritation, anger, and she felt utterly bad for him.
"Yes, we could not capture him in time." Noah reiterated all that had happened, from Jared escaping from the Intelligence to Aria and Ivy rushing to rescue Maggie without telling anyone and how Jared had managed to escape while at the same time, exploding the port he was hiding at and injuring several members of the Intelligence.
"Currently, we do not know where he is. We have no leads against him." Noah let out a defeated sigh and Rachel's shoulders drooped in worry.
This was not good. This was definitely not good. Jared was a vicious serpent and a man like him was better off dead than alive. With him around, no one was safe, especially if they had pissed off Jared and Noah all the people around him had done just that. From Ivy to Noah, even her, Rachel was on Jared's enemy list.
Rachel let out a sigh and cupped her cheeks as she watched her brother heat the dishes with full concentration. Although he seemed alright, she could sense the frustration in him and it devastated her greatly. It was not easy for a man like Noah to be in a high position and look over all the things, everyone's safety and her brother was shouldering all of it without giving away his perilous predicament to anyone.
Rachel was not averse to the danger Noah was in due to Jared. Almost all of his plans had been sabotaged by her brother and this alone was enough for Jared to have enmity against him.
"You have worked hard." She muttered loud enough for Noah to hear and for a minute he did not understand what she was referring to. He looked at the dishes he was heating and blinked at her with a questioning gaze and Rachel let out a helpless laugh.
"With Jared's matter."
"Do we have a choice?" He questioned back, his eyes filled with helplessness and Rachel shook her head in response.
"If you need any help, don't forget to ask me."
"Definitely. But I don't think I will be that heartless to involve my sweet and not-so-innocent sister." He winked at her and Rachel glared back at him. "Anyway, you will not have time to dwell on this matter soon. I'll make sure of it."
"What do you mean?" She narrowed her, all of a sudden having an ominous feeling in her heart. "Did you forget I spoke about your wedding?"
"Yeah. But how will that save me from Jared in case he wishes to harm me? I will still be me and here, out in the open for him to take action."
"You will find out soon, darling sister. Soon. Now, eat your food." He handed her the plate and Rachel devoured it like a famished bandit, not at all caring about her manners and appearance. Anyway, it did not matter to her at all. Noah was her brother and he had seen more embarrassing moments of her in the past and this was nothing.
"What's your next plan?" She mumbled as she munched on her food and Noah took the chair opposite to her. "How are you going to handle Jared?"
"I'm not too sure. I need to discuss this with Mr. West and Deputy Chief Evans regarding this matter. I cannot act alone."
"Deputy Chief? Who is that?" Rachel frowned but did not stop eating.
"Do you remember the lady who collided her car with yours?"
Rachel nodded and recalled the accident she had met with months ago. "Is that her?"
"Yes, and you will be amazed to find out that it was Jared who had damaged her car controls."
"Looks like there are a lot of people wishing to see Jared's doom. Interesting!!"
"And it would have been a lot easier if we knew where the man was right now." Noah gritted his teeth and glared at an empty space. "That bastard is just a waste of land and oxygen. He is a street rat, nothing more."
"I agree. But why do I feel that there is something else you know that I do not and you are intentionally hiding it from me?"
Noah's gaze flickered for a moment before he reverted to his usual calm self. "What do you mean? What could I possibly hide from you?"
"I don't know. You should tell." She shrugged her shoulders lightly. But did not stop staring at him, making Noah guilty from within.
"I do have an important matter I'm hiding from you." He started, not wishing to lie to his sister. Anyway, the truth would come before everyone soon and he did not wish to give his sister a bolt of the blue. At least, it would hurt her less if she was prepared for the truth.
"And?" Rachel prompted when she did not get any response from him.
"Since I do not have any evidence to confirm the truth, I will keep it to myself. I do not wish to assume things and make conclusions without I find the evidence to validate it."
"Fair enough. But give me a heads up at least." Rachel sat straight and looked at the man in the eye. Will I be devastated if your current assumptions become the truth?
"Definitely." Noah did not lie or hide this time. "There is no doubt in it."
