Chapter 676: Amber’s dilemma
Chapter 676: Amber's dilemma
The days were not going well for Amber. For the last few days, she had been visiting 'Joshua's house' wishing to get a glimpse of him. But to her dismay, not only did she not meet him, she was even insulted and humiliated daily by the guard and the dog. It was only after observing for a few days did she realize that she had got the wrong house and Joshua had never stayed at that place ever at all.
Furious and resentful, Amber dialed Jared's number, ready to blast him for providing her with false information while the guard who she tried to trick several times into letting her inside looked on curiously, wondering what she was up to now.
The woman had got on his nerves and only he knew how he had stopped himself from letting his dog loose on her. She would surely be dead meat and there would be one less annoying person in the world.
But he knew his superiors would not appreciate it, especially the man to whom the manor belonged. So he had to restrain himself from taking any drastic measures against the despicable lady.
Amber glared at the man when she noticed his gaze while the man just stared at her with his eyes narrowed.
'Pick up the phone.' She mumbled under her breath and rolled her eyes in exaggeration when the guard still did not move his eyes away from her. 'If only I had power, I would have shown him his place. How dare he humiliate me!!' She cursed the guard a thousand times as she waited for Jared to pick up the call.
However, to her dismay, not only were her calls not reachable, she even could not send any messages at all. The number had become non-existent all of a sudden. Her expression changed gradually and she pulled her phone away.
'The number is right. Why is the call not going?' Never did it occur to her that Jared had changed his number and had not informed her about it at all.
"Why the fuck!!! Why is Jared not picking up the calls??" She cursed loud enough for the guard to hear and the man's temperament changed drastically all at once.
The man was a soldier and he was not avert to all that had happened the last few days and all that was happening in the country. Jared was one name he could never forget, he was quite sensitive about it. Although his case was not being handled by the military, not yet, Jared's crimes were long-listed for him to know everything about him.
Amber was too busy trying to connect to Jared to notice his fierce expression. It was only when she heard him clear his throat right behind her that she jumped in her place, startled by his sudden proximity.
"What do you think you are doing?" She shouted, not at all caring how nasty she looked and sounded. "Don't you dare touch me?" She warned, not liking the look on the man's face.
"Did you just take Jared's name?" The man ignored her cry and questioned her directly, not at all caring to be gentle with her. Anyway, she did not deserve his respect and gentle attitude.
"Yeah, so? What the fuck do you want?" Amber was too impatient to deal with him. Jared was not picking up her calls and she did not know where Joshua lived! She had been barking at the wrong tree all this time!
"Get lost." She commanded, which the man ignored.
"May I know Jared's full name, the Jared you so desperately wish to speak to?" The man was now convinced that it was the same Jared who intended to destroy the country. The woman in front of him looked like his accomplice. She looked as wicked as him to not doubt her involvement with him.
Amber frowned and gave him one look. Although she was pissed at the guy, she nevertheless, still gave in. "It's Jared, Jared Augustus. Now, get lost."
The man let out a smile, one that had Amber raising her guard. It was as though she was now held at gunpoint and would soon have a bullet put through her head. Something about his expression screamed of danger and she took a step back instinctively.
Wrong move. The man seemed to have expected this reaction from her and he immediately pressed an electric taser to her right thigh, eliciting a shriek from her before she collapsed to the ground.
"I'm sorry, lady. I had to do what I was supposed to do." The man patted his palms and pulled out his phone as he gave her a condescending look.
Amber could do nothing but glare at him as her eyes welled up. She was in pain and her right leg was rendered incapacitated, making it impossible for her to move for the time being. She had no idea why the man had turned violent all of a sudden when he had ignored her for the past few days.
"Why are you doing this?" She forced the words out of her mouth as she clutched her knee.
"Because it's necessary." That was all the man said before he moved away from her.
Amber could not hear a word the man was speaking on the phone. But she had an inkling that whatever it was was related to her and would definitely bring her doom. And her fears came true when the man returned just five minutes after with two police officers right behind him.
"She is the one." He pointed at Amber, much to her horror, and the lady officer cuffed her hands right away, not even giving her a chance to question them.
Amber had no idea what was happening with her. One moment she was on the ground crying in pain and the next instant, she found herself being hurled like a sack of potatoes and pushed into the police car while the guard just looked on with sheer hatred in his eyes.
