Chapter 678: Harsh reality - Part 2

Chapter 678: Harsh reality - Part 2

Amber's eyes glistened with happiness when she saw the lady officer calling Joshua. 'Fuck, finally!' She thought, relieved to have contacted Joshua somehow. However, all her delight and comfort were short-lived when Joshua refused to recognize her as his girlfriend. Her lips parted in shock and she stared at the phone as if she had lost her soul forever.

"How could this happen?" She mumbled and the male officer glared at her before he nodded at the female officer who departed from the room in regret.

"Now, what do you have to say, Miss?" The man sassed, not at all sparing any face for the liar in front of him.

"I am not lying. Joshua is really my boyfriend." She argued, unwilling to give up on the last thread of hope she had in her. He was the only one who could help her now, after all the trouble she had gone through due to Jared.

Amber was not a fool. Since the officers were asking her about Jared, something huge must have had happened and if she were to acknowledge knowing him ever, her miseries would only increase in the end. And that was the last thing she wanted after all that she had gone through after leaving Joshua.

"Speak. What do you know about Jared?" He folded his hands and smiled at her, his eyes observing her face keenly. Being in his line of work for years, the man was well versed with people like her and he would be a fool to believe her claims and accept that she knew nothing about Jared. Her body language and eyes said it all. She was somehow related to him. How? That was an answer he was going to extract from her.

"And you do not have to lie to me again. We already have your phone and bank cards and most of them are newly created accounts having large amounts credited to them from a foreign source."

His words only fueled Amber's fear and she stared at him in horror, unable to believe how things were turning out to be.

"And it is a wonder that without having any job for months you were able to spend money as if you have been born rich." His humiliating words fell on deaf ears as Amber gaped at him stupidly. Her tongue had lost it ability to speak and her mind had stopped working. All she felt was pain, the pain of losing everything all over again, the pain of abandonment and the pain of losing a lavish life.

'No, no, no, no.' She shook her head frantically, not caring how horrible and hilarious she looked to the male inspector. 'I can't allow this to happen. I cannot leave Joshua, not now not ever. He is my only way of escape.'

With a resolve and profound anger, she looked at the male inspector who only raised his brows at her.

"I will speak." She started much to the man's relief, only for it to be short-lived. "But only if I can meet Joshua before that. Otherwise, do not expect a word out of my mouth."

The male inspector frowned, clearly pissed by Amber's words. But he did not try to convince her. He was too irked by her delusions and he needed a break. Otherwise, the woman would drive him crazy.

Letting out a scoff in disgust, he walked out and let out a defeated sigh before he picked up the bottle of water and chugged it down in one go. "She is unbelievable." He cursed under his breath and the female officer let out a chuckle.

"Laugh all you want. She is our case to handle." The man glared at her and the lady officer shook her head in denial.

"I'm going to be sick if I stay in her presence for a minute more." She commented and folded her hands before leaning against the table behind her.

"Finally, you understand how I am feeling." The man sassed and folded his hands, mimicking his colleague as he looked at the crazy woman inside the interrogation room.

Silence fell around them and the two officers kept their gaze on their captive.

"What are we going to do about her?" The female officer finally spoke after some time and averted her gaze towards her colleague.

"I have no idea. I don't think we will be getting anything out of her ever. Or..."

"Either we will have to use extreme methods to get her to speak or call Mr. Martin here." The female officer completed for him and both people ended up frowning in dismay. This was one of the many cases they were not liking at all and it was just the beginning.

"What do we do?" Barely had he finished speaking when the phone rang, garnering their attention.

"It's Mr. Martin." the female officer raised her brows in surprised and she answered the call immediately, putting it on speaker.

"Hello?"

"Hello, Officer. I am Joshua Martin." Joshua spoke from the other side and even though they were far away, they could hear his exhaustion in his voice. It was impossible to not detect it.

"Yes, Mr. Martin. How may I help you?" She continued and looked at her colleague who kept his gaze fixed on the phone.

"I was wondering if I could find out why Miss Amber had been arrested and why I had been called regarding this matter."

The female officer glanced at her colleague again who nodded at her in return.

"Mr. Martin, we arrested her because we received a complaint from the one of the military guards. Apparently, she was trying to trespass their property."

"I see."

Silence fell for a few minutes before the lady officer picked up the conversation again.

"And we also believe that she is somehow related to Jared Augustus and we are trying to find out how they are linked to each other."

"But?" Joshua prompted, knowing that there was more to the case, not hiding his curiosity anymore.

"But Miss Amber is unwilling to speak a word and she has asked to meet you before she divulges anything to us."

This time, the silence lasted for a few minutes and the two officers held their breaths hoping against hope for Joshua himself to give them a solution for the problem they were in.

"I will be there right away, Officer. Let me use this opportunity to end this matter once and for all." Joshua promised, much to the officers relief before the call ended.
