Chapter 29: A Duel

Chapter 29: A Duel

John took great strides after attracting attention and arrived in front of Elliot in a moment.

Elliot opened his mouth to speak but suddenly frowned when a system announcement appeared in front of him.

[John Clark is challenging you to a duel]

The system announcement came at the same time as John's voice.

"Elliot Clark, I challenge you to a duel using the rules of the System!"

After that, several system announcements appeared in front of them.

They explained the rules, conditions, and types of duels that existed.

This was confirmation for John that Elliot had awakened. He had been looking for him everywhere for several days and as soon as he found out he was here, he didn't waste any time and ran to meet him.

He wanted to verify whether or not he had really awakened, so when the system activated, John became serious.

'He really awaken... Someone whose talent should be zero.'

He smiled openly; it was good that he was coming now. If he caught him when he was still weak, killing him would be easy. Although, of course, this would also be a humiliation for him, but he had always wanted to kill him since they were children, and as those he had hired lately had failed, it was normal that he would come.

Elliot frowned after reading the rules, then fixed his gaze on John.

"You seem more desperate than I am, John Clark. But... I won't accept a duel of that kind if there's no bet. What a waste of time that would be."

"Oh? You want to run away, you bastard?" John's sudden growl was drowned out by the system messages. He looked at it in shock.

Among the 1 vs 1 options available, he had already chosen one without realizing it. 'Why on earth did I choose that one? I want a battle to the death!' His mind screamed and tried to change the option chosen, but the system prevented him from doing so.

[You can't change the option you've chosen on the fly; you have to close the section and wait the necessary time to challenge him again.]

'What the hell? I have to wait 15 days to challenge him again? Shit...' John frowned and resigned himself. He had to continue with that duel to seize the moment.

Among the 1 vs 1 options, there were several types. Battle to the Death, Fight in the Arena, Fight under Equal Circumstances, Battle Royal, and Custom if you want a type of battle with specific rules.

But among those types, he had unconsciously chosen a Fight in the Arena when he challenged him. This type of Fight is similar to the Battle to the Death but has more rules. The main rule is that you can't kill.

Well, technically you can because the system can't stop you, but killing in a battle where death is not allowed will cause the System to kill the one who broke the rules.

And no one can oppose or prevent it, not even a Saint.

But a Fight in the Arena doesn't prevent you from crippling the other side, which is why, although it was regrettable, John thought it was okay.

'In fact, crippling him would be much better than killing him. It would make him suffer more...' The sinister smile on his face revealed his intentions towards Elliot, but he didn't care.

"So? What are you planning to bet? The system is waiting."

'Right. The bet.'

John thought quickly and made up his mind without thinking too much.

"100,000..."

"Do you think my registration time is worth a measly few dollars? Tsk, I really overestimated you." Elliot then turned around and considered continuing his way, making John despair and shout.

The most uptodat𝓮 n𝒐vels are published on freёnovelkiss.com.

"10..."

"An item awarded by the system and an item from a Rank C Dungeon. That's our bet." Alexander Clark suddenly appeared among a crowd of people gathered nearby when they realized there was a fight between Awakened Ones.

His sudden intrusion into the scene left several people gasping.

"He's a Master!"

"Master Alexander, what the hell is he doing here?!"

"God..."

Those present had different reactions. Some were scared, others amazed, and others still wanted to run, fearing that this guy would get involved in the fight.

Elliot also frowned on seeing him here.

'So he comes with backup. It seems they discovered my awakening, and now they're scared.' He smiled.

It was good to know the difference in power between him and John right now because soon, everything would change.

Besides, the bet he had proposed... It was amazing.

"Even if you say that, if you don't give it to the System, I can't trust it. The Clarks are treacherous, you know?"

Alexander frowned. "Do you think I, a Master, would swindle you?"

"Heh." Elliot scoffed. "What Master stuff have you got? If you don't hurry up, I'll leave. I don't have time to waste on you."

Elliot then wanted to continue on his way, which forced Alexander to act. He gritted his teeth in anger but restrained himself and took out the items he referred to.

'Bastard. You're lucky you're here. Otherwise, I would have killed you personally.'

John didn't even look at what the items were and put them in the system bet.

Elliot did look at them because if they weren't of sufficient value, he wouldn't waste his time, and he was interested in knowing about such high-ranking items.

Although it wasn't certain that he would win, if he did, he at least wanted to get a good reward from these bastards.

'Oh...' His eyes sparkled with interest. 'A sword and an inner helmet of Rank C.'

Rank C items are rarely seen in this place, and if it weren't for Alexander's need to kill Elliot, he wouldn't get them out so easily. They are incredibly expensive, and although these barely have any decent attributes, the sword is free to use.

Anyone of any level can equip it, unlike the helmet, which requires at least one stat to be at 25 points.

That peculiarity of free use gives it an advantage, which makes it more expensive.

That's why Elliot smiled. "Well... My bet is..."

"You don't need to bet. You have nothing that interests me. If I may impose a condition, when you lose, you must go and prostrate yourself in front of the Clark Mansion for 3 days and 3 nights. That will be enough."

Elliot stared at Alexander. 'He's confident he'll win. And if I lose... I'm afraid he had kill me.'

This was worrying. If he accepted the bet, the system would force him to fulfill it if he lost.

So he looked at John, who stood proudly before him.

'He's strong...'

Naturally, John was still a little stronger than him, although, surprisingly, not by much. He seemed to have a powerful energy. The problem was that his energy was not calm; it was too chaotic. This was not his fault or a disadvantage; it was due to his ability.

John is known as the Wind Swordsman due to his exceptional skill, which gives him a significant advantage in movement and attack.

The types of attacks he can execute look like those of a magical swordsman, which is why he is widely respected for his skill. However, his talent is not accompanied by much, as some people awaken at the same time as him and already have an advantage in total power.

But that's why Alexander was confident. Few people can awaken abilities like those that can impersonate magic, giving them a great advantage.

Therefore, this battle was dangerous.

'But the last word has not yet been said.'

Elliot jumped back and accepted the duel.

"I hope you are prepared for the results."

By accepting the duel, the system accepted the conditions imposed by John and his bet.

Then, from one moment to the next, everyone surrounded the area.

Although there wasn't much room for fighting inside this establishment, it was big enough for Elliot and John to fight without problems and still have spectators.

Although the Association was concerned, they couldn't help it. The System's rules are clear, and duels in this type of establishment are totally allowed.
