Chapter 22 --The Unfriendly Leo
Chapter 22: Chapter22-The Unfriendly Leo
At that moment, Emma produced a delicate, miniature phone.
"Hold on a moment," she said.
"Uncle Rosewood, I've brought the Magus God here. Couldn't you at least come out to greet him? It seems rather discourteous not to."
"Mmm, I see. Well, then, I'll escort the Magus God over myself," she concluded, and promptly hung up.
Emma turned to Harrison with an apologetic expression.
"Our Chief is currently briefing the nation's Second Elder. I'm terribly sorry for the delay."
Hearing this, Harrison couldn't help but chuckle.
Such formalities didn't concern him in the least. His priority was enhancing his strength.
"That's fine," he replied, "Lead the way. I'm eager to see what this SS-level task is all about."
Seeing Harrison's response, Emma breathed a sigh of relief.
She had previously met the bearer of that SSS-level talent with a hundred-fold experience boost. His arrogance was unparalleled.
In comparison, Harrison's demeanor was a hundred times better!
"Right, they're all waiting for us as well." Emma led the way, her steps confident, until they arrived at a structure hidden behind trees and strewn boulders.
At first glance, this house bore no resemblance to the magnificent Celestial Bureau skyscraper.
It seemed more like a discreet location meant for covert operations, or perhaps a temporary hut for an on-duty soldier.
Emma pulled out a finely crafted copper key and inserted it into a lock on the door.
With a gentle turn, a faint mechanical noise sounded, revealing a set of heavy elevator doors.
Harrison's gaze fixed on the elevator's numerical display, a hint of surprise flickering in his eyes.
It clearly showed a three-digit number, indicating a staggering number of over a hundred floors.
"Incredible, such a vast subterranean space hidden right here," Harrison mused inwardly.
Emma delicately slid her finger across the elevator's control panel, inputting a complex series of numbers.
"Everyone is gathered in the main conference room on the 67th floor. They're waiting for us," she said calmly.
Harrison nodded slightly, not offering any further words.
"Alright."
He, along with Emma and the skeleton king, stepped into the elevator.
As Emma pressed the number 67, they felt the sensation of the elevator swiftly descending.
Roughly a minute later, the elevator came to a smooth halt.
The moment the doors opened, Harrison was met with a vast expanse, resembling an underground city of the future.
The area spanned approximately six thousand square meters, vast as a small urban plaza.
Tall light columns stood like towering trees, illuminating the entire subterranean realm as if it were daylight.
Directly to the north, a two-story modern building stood, with brilliant lights pouring from its windows, casting an aura of solemnity.
"The design here truly surpasses imagination." Harrison remarked, genuinely awed by the scale of the Celestial Bureau's facilities.
He moved forward, rapidly approaching the front of the office building.
Several individuals from inside had already come out to greet them.
Among them were three men and a woman, all appearing quite young.
Emma began whispering introductions,
"The one with blue hair is Icethorn, of the magus class. He possesses an SS-level talent known as King of Ice, making him the strongest in the Celestial Bureau at present."
"The one with the buzz-cut is Leo; he's the bearer of the hundred-fold experience talent."
"The young woman is Lily, of the priest class. Her most potent talent is an SS-level one named 'Back from the Dead'. As long as the target hasn't been deceased for more than seven days, she can use a revival spell to bring them back. However, the cost is significant. It consumes five levels of her own experience, and the resurrected person's level gets reset, dropping them straight to level 1."
Listening to Emma, a surge of emotions swirled within Harrison.
He had never heard of Icethorn or Leo in his past life.
Neither were they listed in the Celestial Bureau's roster of level hundred powerhouses; perhaps their lives were cut short mid-journey.
But Lily?
She was a level hundred powerhouse of the life sequence.
Though her combative strength wasn't particularly high, her restorative capabilities could render foes utterly desolate.
He hadn't expected to encounter this woman here.
The Lily standing before him now seemed untouched by the trials that would later define her.
Her eyes, filled with a mix of anxiety and anticipation, remained fixed on Harrison.
To her, the Magus God was legendary, an entity she had always hoped to befriend.
Lily tried to break the silence.
"Magus God, it's an honor to meet you." Her delicate hand tentatively reached out.
Responding to her gesture of goodwill, Harrison gently took her hand. "We've met now. There's no need to address me as Magus God. The name Harrison will suffice."
"Alright!" Joy radiated from Lily's face.
Meanwhile, the buzz-cut man named Leo didn't direct his attention towards Harrison.
Instead, his gaze, predatory like that of a cheetah, was fixated on Emma.
Witnessing this, Icethorn subtly cleared his throat.
Leo was indeed the type — three parts wild and seven parts flirtatious.
He always seemed to have an inescapable fascination with beautiful women.
Clearly uncomfortable under Leo's intense gaze, Emma discreetly moved closer to Harrison, subtly using him as a shield from Leo's view.
Just then, Leo seemed to acknowledge Harrison's presence.
"You're here too," he said, extending his hand for a handshake.
Harrison, however, merely nodded politely, not reciprocating the gesture.
His first impression of Leo wasn't particularly favorable.
Witnessing the interaction, a flash of anger crossed Leo's eyes, his face tainted with a hint of embarrassment.
However, knowing he needed Harrison's assistance at this moment, he refrained from any confrontations.
Sensing the growing tension, Icethorn stepped forward, trying to defuse the situation. "We're all here for the same purpose. I believe Emma has already briefed you about our current situation. Leo, share your mission plan with Harrison."
Acknowledging Icethorn's words, Leo nodded.
"My mission is to eliminate thirty gold-rank monsters of equal level. But facing even a single level 30 gold monster requires Icethorn's full might, let alone thirty of them. So, I thought of recruiting more to our cause."
Harrison nodded in understanding.
The might of a level 30 gold monster was substantial.
Not everyone was as combat-capable as he was.
Generally, one gold monster could easily overpower thousands of low-rank talent players of the same level.
Even if one possessed an A-level or even S-level talent, it would still require hundreds to vanquish it.
The fact that Icethorn could take on a gold monster indicated he had some tricks up his sleeve.
At this juncture, Icethorn interjected, "Harrison, as a reward, upon completion, the Bureau will grant you a solitary entry into the Apocalypse Enchanted Realm."
Harrison's heart skipped a beat.
This was precisely what he desired. In his past life, his position had been inadequate, preventing him from accessing detailed information about these Enchanted Realms.
Otherwise, he would've undoubtedly seized one.
Icethorn continued, "Soon, we'll head to the Apocalypse Enchanted Realm. Every activation of the Enchanted Realm requires a vast amount of resources. Let's not squander our chances to level up."
