Chapter 65: Unexpected Alliances

Chapter 65: Unexpected Alliances

As soon as Rocco received his fluffy new companion, he was promptly sent back to the annex.

With one of the two major mafia families, the Del Fiore family, caught in the middle of such a big event, the Di Malvento family couldn’t afford to sit idly by.

Watching his father suddenly spring into action, Rocco could only quietly leave the main building, clutching the fluffy dog in his arms.

Well, at least it seemed he had dodged the dreaded "you’re disowned or executed" ending, Rocco thought with relief.

He had been bracing himself for today to mark his banishment or execution, but the unexpected disappearance of the Male Lead had saved him.

"Ah, Ragar! Georgio!"

Letting out a sigh of relief, Rocco made his way to the entrance lobby of the main building.

In there, he spotted Ragar who was looking unwell and crouched on the floor, while Georgio stood nearby, watching him with a bored expression.

The moment Georgio heard Rocco’s voice, he perked up, his face lighting up with excitement.

Why is he so happy?

Rocco wondered, blinking his eyes in confusion as he approached the pair while still holding the dog.

"Welcome back, Master! Taking care of Ragar was soooo boring! I’ve been waiting forever!"

Georgio flung himself into Rocco for a tight hug, and Rocco hurriedly caught him.

Worried that the dog would get squished between them, Rocco glanced down—only to see the little fluffball deftly wriggle free and burrow into the crook of his neck.

So cute.

"...What’s with this mutt? Acting all familiar with my master..." Georgio muttered, casting a cold, expressionless glare at the dog.

Alarm bells went off in Rocco’s head.

This is bad!

He instinctively stopped Georgio’s outstretched hand before he could touch the dog.

Surely Georgio wasn’t actually planning to crush the poor thing, was he...?

"Georgio! Never mind the dog—what about Ragar? He doesn’t look well. Is he okay now?" Rocco asked hurriedly, trying to redirect Georgio’s attention.

"Huh? Oh, Ragar? As you can see, nope, not at all. I don’t really know what’s wrong, but he’s been trembling the whole time," Georgio replied casually.

Trembling?

Did Ragar see something that scared him?

Hiding the dog from Georgio’s line of sight as subtly as possible, Rocco walked over to Ragar and crouched down in front of him.

Ragar flinched as if startled when Rocco leaned in to peer at his face.

...Something is definitely wrong with Ragar, Rocco thought.

Could this be an aftereffect of his transformation?

But even if that were the case, they still didn’t know what triggered the transformation in the first place.

More importantly, what was Ragar so afraid of?

Determined to figure out the cause of Ragar’s strange behavior, Rocco gently poked his shoulder.

"Ragar, Ragar. It’s me, Rocco. Look at me, will you? I’m getting lonely over here..."

Usually, Ragar would respond immediately, acting as if his whole purpose was to agree with Rocco and follow his lead.

But now, Ragar ignored him completely, withdrawing even further into himself.

Rocco couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sadness.

Ragar was the one who seemed overwhelmed and distressed, yet Rocco found tears pooling in his eyes.

Quickly, he wiped them away.

He needed to focus on calming Ragar down.

Determined, Rocco set the dog on the ground gently and embraced Ragar with his whole body, pulling him into a tight hug.

As Rocco wrapped his arms around Ragar’s head and shoulders, the other trembled again.

However, this time, Ragar didn’t ignore him.

Slowly and cautiously, he turned his gaze toward Rocco.

"Young Master..."

Seeing Ragar’s face clearly now, Rocco became certain—Ragar was frightened of something.

His eyes darted around nervously, and his face was pale.

Still, Ragar seemed a little calmer than before.

Relieved, Rocco let out a soft sigh and gently stroked Ragar’s furry ears.

"There you go, Ragar. You finally showed me your face. Good boy, you’re doing great," Rocco said soothingly.

He wanted desperately to ask why Ragar had transformed so suddenly or what he was so afraid of.

But he resisted the urge to press him, choosing instead to focus on comforting him.

Rocco smiled warmly, deciding it was more important to help Ragar forget whatever had scared him.

Memories of Ragar’s peculiar habit surfaced in Rocco’s mind.

Whenever his ears were lightly nibbled, Ragar would instantly relax.

Rocco leaned in and gently nibbled Ragar’s animal ears, hoping to ease the tension further.

"There, there. Let’s head back to the annex, Ragar. You must be exhausted. Let’s get some rest," Rocco murmured, still nibbling lightly on Ragar’s ears.

At that, Ragar went completely limp, collapsing into Rocco’s arms with a red face.

He fell over as though fainting.

Did he nibble his ears a little too much?

Rocco panicked and quickly checking Ragar’s pulse.

Thankfully, he was still breathing. Relieved, Rocco let out a long breath.

"Georgio, help me out. Carry Ragar back to the annex, will you?"

"What?! Are you serious? You want me to carry this huge Beastman with my delicate arms?" Georgio protested, his tone dripping with disbelief.

Rocco sighed, exasperated. "Delicate arms? Seriously? With your muscles, you’re in a whole different league."

Georgio might appear lean at first glance, but beneath his clothes, his body was impressively very muscular.

If Georgio’s arms were considered delicate, most people in the world—including Rocco with his soft, thin arms—wouldn’t even qualify.

Still, this wasn’t the time for debates about strength.

Ragar needed help.

But judging by Georgio’s disgruntled expression, he didn’t seem willing to comply just yet.

Rocco frowned, wracking his brain for a way to convince him.

"Come on, Georgio, please! I’ll even let you sleep with me tonight, okay?"

"Wh-What?! Really? You said it! I’ve got your word on that!"

After much deliberation, Rocco remembered that Georgio loved sleeping by his side.

Taking a gamble, he made the offer.

To his surprise, it worked perfectly.

Georgio’s face lit up with excitement as he effortlessly hoisted Ragar onto his shoulders.

All his earlier reluctance seemed to vanish instantly.
