Chapter 341 -
Chapter 341 -341
Su Zixi opened her eyes feeling a bit bewildered.
She scratched her still somewhat itchy cheeks, not sure if it was her imagination, always feeling that she’d been bitten by mosquitoes after falling asleep, but she remembered there were never any mosquitoes in her room, and besides, it was already autumn.
She turned over and checked the time—it was just eight o’clock.
Jingyao probably hadn’t come back yet.
Su Zixi crawled out of bed, put on her coat, quickly washed her face, then left the room to look for something to eat downstairs.
As she walked into the dining room, she saw Uncle Li directing the servants to set a rich dinner on the table, which made her quite surprised, “Uncle Li, is this prepared for me?”
Uncle Li saw her and smiled gently, “Young Mistress, you’re awake. Yes, the young master is back; he’s in the study.”
Su Zixi’s eyes lit up.
…
She immediately went to the study with a plate of washed fruits to find him.
When she pushed the door open, He Jingyao was sitting behind the desk, his gaze on the computer screen, seemingly in deep thought.
“Jingyao…” she called out softly.
He Jingyao looked up and saw her, his face breaking into a smile right away, “You woke up so soon, I thought you would sleep a bit longer.”
After saying that, he paused and looked at her meaningfully, “I was worried these past few days had tired you out, but it seems it wasn’t that serious.”
Listening to the words and hearing the tone, Su Zixi immediately understood.
She promptly straightened up and said, “Actually, I didn’t get enough sleep, I woke up because I was hungry! Uncle Li has already prepared dinner, would you like to eat something with me?”
He curved his lips and extended a hand towards her, “Come here.”
Su Zixi hesitated for a moment, but eventually walked over obediently, put the fruit plate on the table, and then nestled into his embrace, “Uncle Li said you went out to socialize; I thought you would come back very late.”
He Jingyao responded casually, his gaze returning once again to the computer screen, tapping the keyboard lightly with his right hand.
Su Zixi looked curiously and saw that he had already shut down the computer.
“There was a small mishap,” he said, ruffling her hair with a relaxed tone, “It’s sorted now; let’s go eat.”
He had no intention of letting Su Zixi know about Ye Shutong’s existence, to avoid her overthinking again.
After dinner, Su Zixi personally poured him a glass of lemon water and placed it at his side with a diligent smile.
He Jingyao held the glass but did not drink, instead, he gave her a look that was both smiling and not smiling, “What is it?”
“Jingyao, thank you,” she said earnestly, “Yushan was discharged from the hospital today. Thanks to you, she was able to stay in Siming Hospital for so long. She’s recovering really well and asked me to thank you specifically.”
“I see,” he said while lifting the glass to sip some water.
Waiting for half an eternity without a reply from him, Su Zixi couldn’t help but tug on his sleeve, “Jingyao, why aren’t you saying anything?”
“Say what?” he pulled her into his embrace, his gaze dark and deep, “I helped her because she’s your friend, so I don’t need her thanks.”
Su Zixi was momentarily stuck, blinking her eyes, “That’s why I’m thanking you.”
“Mm,” his tone was still measured.
Feeling somewhat deflated, Su Zixi rested her head in his chest, “Do I have to repay you in kind again!”

He Jingyao said impassively, “If you feel that’s the only way to express your gratitude, I certainly won’t refuse.”
