Chapter 213 Brandon’s Suggestion
Chapter 213 Brandon’s Suggestion
After refueling in Last City, the Elliot siblings led the bombing unit back to Palawan to search for more Red Devil Flowers. With the help of the scouting drones, they managed to locate 2 more Red Devil Flowers.
Clementine commanded her team to destroy the flowers through the radio. While the rest were bombing the Red Devil Flowers, she scoured the rainforest for more potentially harmful creatures. During her search, she discovered many evolved plants and beasts.
There was a huge purple plant with sharp saw-like teeth. It stood at the towering height of thirty meters and it even has a dozen long tentacle-like vines with spikes laced with poison. No creature dared to go near this carnivorous plant and whenever a stupid one went close to it, the plant would use its long tentacles to wrap around its prey's body before throwing them into its large mouth.
Clementine sent an image of the creature to the base and she asked for their opinion on how to deal with it. 𝒷𝓮𝒹𝓃ℴ𝓿𝓮𝓁.𝓬𝓸𝓂
Surprisingly, the person who replied was the mysterious female commander of the base, Winter. "Don't kill it. This carnivorous plant isn't a threat as long as we don't go close to it. We can also make use of it to kill the evolved beasts."
Clementine was stunned by her words. "Are you planning to lure the evolved beasts towards this plant?"
"That's right. It would be a pity to kill such a useful creature when we can make use of it. We just need to come up with a way to lure the evolved beasts into the territory of that carnivorous plant." Winter's words awed everyone in the command center. No wonder she was called the brain of the territory. Only Winter could come up with such flawless ideas.
"Understood!" Clementine didn't linger and maneuvered her aircraft to go in another direction. Her job was to eliminate the threat in the rainforest and it was the command center's job to make a plan. She just needs to follow their instructions.
At the command center, Winter summoned all the strategists of the base. Krizia Rosalez, the newly appointed Brandon, and a few more smart people were gathered.
"This is the carnivorous plant discovered by our bombing unit in Palawan." Winter showed them a projection of the huge purple plant.
Everyone revealed various expressions upon seeing this terrifying creature.
"We should make use of this creature to kill the evolved beasts in the rainforest. This way, we can minimize the losses in our ammunition. You guys should know that it's difficult to gather raw materials to create bombs and missiles." Winter said in a calm voice.
Everyone agreed with her words. The presence of the zombies and the evolved creatures made it difficult for the people to gather raw materials outside the base.
Brandon was new in the department and he was still a bit nervous. The big boss of the base personally referred him to the department so everyone had high hopes for him. The pressure on his shoulders made him feel overwhelmed.
Meanwhile, Arianne the tomboyish girl who came from the same group as him was also there. She managed to pass the tests and became a strategist like Brandon.
"Do you guys have any idea on how we can lure those evolved beasts to the range of the carnivorous plant?" Winter asked while scanning everyone with her cold gaze.
Krizia raised her hand and spoke up. "How about we send a team to provoke the evolved beast? We have flying cars in our territory and we can make use of them to ensure the safety of the team. The flying cars are fast and nimble so they should be able to move around the forest with ease."
Some people nodded at her words, while a few others furrowed their eyebrows.
Winter stared at her and said. "That's a good suggestion, but we don't have people who can skillfully drive those flying cars. The forest is filled with dangers and there are many unknown creatures. Furthermore, the flying cars are built for transport and they won't be able to withstand a strong impact."
Krizia became silent.
A few more people gave suggestions, but their plans were not as good as what Krizia had suggested.
While everyone was deep in thought, Brandon suddenly raised his hand.
Winter stared at him and nodded her head. "Speak.
Brandon adjusted his glasses as he said. "Why do we have to kill the evolved beasts? Our goal is to save as many people as we can while we wait for our research team to create a vaccine that could eliminate the virus. At this moment, Commander Gregorio has already saved a huge number of civilians in Palawan. We don't need to kill those evolved creatures. We can deal with them once we learn more about the virus. I suggest that we should prioritize saving more civilians."
His words made the cold-hearted Winter feel a bit surprised. She nodded her head in praise. There was finally a wise man in Arlan's base. "It seems like I was overthinking things. Just like you said, there is no need for us to kill those evolved beasts. They are not the carriers of the zombie virus. What's your name?" She asked.
Brandon felt a bit nervous when he felt everyone's gazes. He took a deep breath and answered. "Brandon."
"Brandon, is it? I'll give you a task. You will help Sigurd's army in searching for more survivors. Can you do it?" Winter's words shocked the people at the round table shocked. They never thought that she would actually give him such an important job. Sigurd's army was the main force of the base and they were responsible for most of the rescue missions. If Brandon does well, he will gain a lot of benefits.
Brandon was also taken aback. He knew that this was an opportunity for him, but could he handle this task?
While he was hesitating, he saw Arianne giving him an encouraging look. For some reason, her smile gave him some courage to take on this momentous task.
Brandon turned his gaze to Winter and nodded his head. "I can do it!" He uttered with a determined expression.
"Good! I will inform Commander Sigurd about this. Just wait for someone to come and pick you up." Winter uttered in a calm voice.
Soon, the meeting was over.
Arianne came to his side and poked him with her elbow. "Great job! You landed such an important role on the first day of work! You really make me proud! I can brag to our friends about this later."
Brandon couldn't help but smile at her words. In truth, it was because of her that he had the courage to accept the task. He didn't know why, but he suddenly felt that he was attracted to this tomboyish lady. "You better not. Some of them might get offended if you brag about our achievements. Some of our friends are prideful…" He shook his head.
Hearing this, Arianne's smile disappeared. "You're right. Then, I will only tell Carlo and Celine…" She snickered.
Brandon was amused by her words. "Speaking of Carlo, I heard that he joined Commander Karl's army." He quickly changed the topic.
"Eh? Really?" Arianne was surprised. She was busy in the last few days preparing for the exam so she didn't have the time to check on their friends.
Brandon nodded his head. "Among the military applicants, he was one of the few who showed exemplary results. I heard that he ranked seventh among the thousands of applicants." Unlike Arianne, he kept tabs on the situation of their friends. He felt that he had the responsibility to take care of them since they came from the same group.
Arianne's eyes flashed with shock upon hearing this. "That guy ranked seventh? I thought he only knew how to play basketball." She remarked.
Brandon chuckled. "You underestimate him too much. With his athleticism, he only needs some training to become a great soldier. He might become an important figure in the army."
The two chatted as they left the command center. After their quarantine, their group received a house at the core area of Last City. This was only possible because Arlan had high hopes for Brandon. The house had 2 floors and five rooms. It was spacious enough to accommodate Brandon's group.
Among their group, many had already taken jobs, but there were still three people who hadn't found a suitable job. Luckily for them, the rest of the group didn't evict them from the house.
The officials of Last City provided numerous jobs for the civilians. However, most of these jobs were either construction-related or industrial-related. Brandon's group came from a renowned school in Quezon and their pride didn't allow them to settle for such heavy labor.
The most stubborn in the group was the gay man. He refused to accept the construction jobs offered to him. He tried to apply for administrative work, but he was rejected. This made him quite irate in the past few days.
When Brandon and Arianne arrived at their house, they heard their friends arguing. They quickly ran upstairs to check the situation.
