Chapter 55 - I Didn't See Anything
55 I Didn’t See Anything
“Chinese?” There was bafflement in the man’s tone. Xing Shu felt his breath on her neck, giving her goosebumps.
Xing Shu’s body stiffened and she swallowed. The cold muzzle was pressed against her back, and she did not dare to move. There were a few men lying in the depths of the alley. Blood mixed with rainwater rushed into the sewer. Xing Shu knew that she was very unlucky to have stumbled upon a murder scene. She did not know this man, but he was vaguely familiar.
A photograph suddenly flashed across Xing Shu’s mind—the scion of K Group, the most doted on and mercurial young master in the diamond industry. K Group had lost their daughter 20 years ago. Be it that chairman or this young master, they had never given up on looking for her.
Xing Shu’s eyelashes fluttered twice. “Mr. Xiao, I didn’t see anything.” The rumor that K Group had many enemies did not seem fake at all. K Group ruled with an iron hand and dominated the industry through ruthlessness.
Xiao Zhuo did not expect this woman to know him. He sized Xing Shu up a few times before slowly putting away his gun. “Which family’s young lady in China?”
Xing Shu said, “I’m an employee of Cheng Corporation Group.”
Xiao Zhuo was not wearing a suit; he wore a simple white shirt and black pants. He looked very young. Xiao Zhuo grabbed her neck. “Cheng Corporation Group? You know Cheng Lang?”
Xing Shu had studied K Group and had seen a lot of news about Xiao Zhuo. From the looks of it, Xiao Zhuo and Cheng Lang probably did not get along. She was a little annoyed with herself for speaking too quickly.
Xing Shu replied, “I don’t know him.”
Xing Shu’s lie was really flimsy. How could an employee of Cheng Corporation Group not know its President, Cheng Lang? Xiao Zhuo tightened his fingers, wanting to scare Xing Shu. However, things took a turn in the next second.
“Bam!” Xing Shu threw Xiao Zhuo over her shoulder and onto the ground, locking his arm with applied pressure.
Xiao Zhuo was stunned. When he recovered from the shock, he did not resist. Instead, he turned to look at Xing Shu. “Do you have a death wish?”
Xing Shu’s face turned pale, but she was still rational. She whipped out her cell phone—turned on the camera—and pointed it towards Xiao Zhuo’s face. “Mr. Xiao, I just want to live. A big shot like you doesn’t have to bother with a small fry like me. As long as you don’t find trouble with me in the future, I won’t tell anyone about what happened today.” It would not look good if word got out that the dignified young master of K Group was tackled to the ground by a woman.
Xiao Zhuo was so angry that he laughed. Thinking of the maneuver just now, he asked Xing Shu, “Do you know martial arts?”
Xing Shu nodded. “Black belt, fourth dan.”
Xiao Zhuo said, “Not bad.”
Xing Shu was confounded. She could not figure Xiao Zhuo out. He still had the mood to praise her at this time?
Xing Shu saved the video on her cell phone and loosened her grip on Xiao Zhuo. Xiao Zhuo’s clothes were wet from the rainwater on the ground. His cell phone suddenly rang. He got up from the ground—one hand holding the gun deftly—the other rearranging his wet clothes. He looked nonchalant. “Nie Heng, you’re here?”
The other party said something. Xiao Zhuo hung up the call and walked out of the alley. Halfway there, he suddenly stopped and turned to look at Xing Shu. “You know Nie Heng?”
Xing Shu did not answer. Xiao Zhuo continued, “When I said the name ‘Nie Heng’ just now, there was a ripple in your eyes.”
Xing Shu did not want to answer this question. Whether it was Nie Heng or Xiao Zhuo, both were very dangerous. Unfortunately, Xiao Zhuo was certain that Xing Shu knew Nie Heng. He turned around—grabbed her wrist—and forcefully brought her into a car not far away.
The black Bugatti was parked in the heavy rain. It was very spacious inside the car. After Nie Heng ended the call, he looked at Cheng Lang, who was opposite him. Cheng Lang was aloof, and his slender fingers were flipping through the auction catalog sent by the auction organizer.
Nie Heng asked, “What does Old Master Cheng want this time?”
“Ten-sided Spirited Wall Scroll.” Cheng Lang put down the catalog. It was the final lot, and the price had yet to be announced.
Nie Heng remarked, “I see. No wonder you had to make this trip yourself.”
A work of the imperial artists of the Ming Dynasty, the Ten-sided Spirited Wall Scroll had never been auctioned before. Old Master Cheng had a thing for antiques.
Cheng Lang glanced out of the car window. Two blurry figures walked over. Cheng Lang asked Nie Heng, “You didn’t fight with Xiao Zhuo?”
Xiao Zhuo was not in the Beijing upper-class social circle and was not on familiar terms with them; but he had come to the auction with Nie Heng. Of course, the North American upper-class social circle was more complicated and dangerous than Beijing’s.
