Chapter 58: She Saved Me!
THIRD PERSON POV:
Genevive was snooping around the pack for gossip about the dinner that was happening. When alarm bells started ringing.
However, it was too late, they came in the cover of darkness and began a relentless assault on their walls breaking through them quickly.
The little blue haired girl was shivering in fear, she wasn’t supposed to be here, and she didn’t know where to go. She ran but everywhere she turned rogues and fire stood in her path to safety. She didn’t have a wolf yet, she couldn’t shift.
Tears stung her eyes, she wiped them away, reminding herself she was the daughter of a warrior, she was strong, and she wouldn’t cry.
But fear, it threatened to shatter that resolve, with each howl and snarl that encroached.
She was running and hiding trying to make her way to the pack house.
Make her way to safety.
All around her the shadows of wolves fighting flickered in the flames.
The smell of smoke and fire assaulted her senses.
It became too much too fast; she found a place to hide. So that’s what she did, she tucked her knees into herself and curled into a ball. Praying to the moon goddess that the night would be over soon and that she would be okay. That her family would be okay.
The fear started to overtake her as the battle went on. The smell of blood imprinted on her mind. The sounds of snarls rang tirelessly in her ears.
The hair the back of the little girl’s neck stood up, and she felt it, the air shift. Someone had found her and locked on to her, however, before she could move or think the smell of spring and wild berries flooded the little girl’s nose. Her body was overwhelmed with the sheer force of the person who now used their body to shield them.
Genevive felt no fear, nothing negative or malice coming from the person that shielded her. She was afraid to open her eyes, afraid if she did the worst would come. If she stayed still and pretended to be a rock, she’d be safe.
As afraid as she was, the smell of the person holding her soothed her. She couldn’t help but sense a homeness about her.
The person caging her in flinched. But made no noise.
A rustle came from the side followed by a voice. He told her to reach out and talk to the person holding her.
So, she did, she opened her eyes, and that’s when she saw the white hair.
’So, the princess saved me.’ She thought to herself excitedly.
Genevive couldn’t bring herself to move. She needed to stay right where she was.
A man’s voice stirred her from her thoughts.
The Alpha Kings? Wow, she was lucky tonight, she was saved by the princess and now speaking with the Alpha King. No one was going to believe this tomorrow.
The Alpha King told Genevive to help bring the girl back, so she did. The little girl did exactly what her big sister used to do during their nightmares.
Genevive could smell the blood on the princess. She wasn’t doing good, so Genevive moved with urgency.
"Princess, you gotta come back now." She whispered to Odette.
Realization flickered across Odette’s face and with that she released little Genevive, and the Alpha King took her away.
Genevive couldn’t help but smile, her king cared about her hero. It was weird for a wolf girl in the middle of nowhere to know about the vampire princess, but she made it her goal to know every single powerful woman. And she knew there was more than meets the eye with the princess. And tonight, only proved it.
Genevive recalled the four arrows Odette had in her back. And she smiled proudly. She would be strong, just like the vampire princess. She would be brave too. She should have been worried about Princess Odette, but Genevive knew she would be okay, the way her king looked at her, it was like all those books she read where the prince rescues the princess, and they share true loves first kiss.
She hoped one day a wolf would look at her like that.
The rogues had been defeated, and Genevive was safely back at the pack house getting looked at when Ariel came rushing over to her.
"I’ve been looking everywhere for you! Where have you been? Are you okay? Do you know how worried I’ve been?" Ariel yelled scooping her little sister up into her arms.
"Big Sister!" Genevive yelled back throwing her arms around Ariel’s neck, hugging her sister tightly "You won’t believe the night I’ve had!"
Ariel pulled away and glared down at Genevive. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She was happy after being attacked? What was wrong with her little sister’s head?
"Are you mental?" Ariel raised an eyebrow at Genevive.
"I got to meet the vampire princess AND the Alpha King! She saved me Big Sis!" Genevive explained excitedly.
"She did what now? And Alpha King Ambrose?" Ariel’s interest was piqued now. She glanced around the room and put her finger up to her lips and said "Wait, let’s go home and talk. Some ears can’t be trusted."
Genevive gestured zipping her lips and nodded firmly. Hopping off Ariel’s lap, she quickly drags her out of the pack house and towards their home.
Still no mother and father, which made Ariel nervous, but Genevive knew it would be awhile before they came home, it was usually closer dawn the night after a rogue attack.
"Okay, so what happened? Why weren’t you with the other children?" Ariel asked with an accusatory tone and expression.
"I was sneaking around for gossip, but listen, that doesn’t matter. The Princess of freakin Darkness saved me! She took 3 arrows for me, Big Sis, that’s so cool." Genevive pretended to collapse on the couch dramatically.
"Oh, and Sister, you should have seen the way the Alpha King looked at her, it was like a scene from a Jane Austin book, he totally has a thing for the princess, I’m telling you. I think she’d make a great Luna Queen. She’s powerful and brave! She risked her life for me and I’m not even her subject." She covered her face and then kicked her legs. "What a cool night."
Ariel sat shocked at the dinner table leaning on her chin. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. A vampire protecting a wolf, a princess protecting a low born? A vampire for a luna? Her King loving a vampire? This was too much to take in.
"There’s no way the Alpha King would have feelings for a vampire." Ariel scoffed with disbelief.
Genevive shot up and shot her sister a deathly sharp glare "I know what I saw, and that was love on a mans face. Concern for the woman he loves. I may be young, but I read a lot and watch a lot of movies, I know what it looks like, and he loves her big sis he does!"
Genevive was furious, she trusted her gut and her gut told her the princess was the only choice for her Luna and in her mind no one else would be good enough for her Alpha King.
"You are too young to understand pack politics, she’s a vampire, she can’t be Luna." Ariel’s face softened as if realizing that very statement in real time.
"Well, I won’t accept any other woman as my Luna." Genevive snubbed her nose in the air at her sister.
"Okay, okay, well don’t let anyone else hear you say that a vampire should be Luna Queen, you’ll get yourself into all sorts of trouble." Ariel tried to smooth over the conversation.
"Yeah, yeah, I know, bunch of bigots here. Can’t appreciate a powerful woman when they see one. Their loss. Big Sis, she was so impressive. I felt the power radiating off her. Her strength, and you were right her hair, even with all that blood, it was like moonlight. She was so pretty. I think I’m in love." Genevive dramatically flopped back on to the floor.
Ariel found herself giggling at the absurdity her little sister was spouting. She was young, she could have her fantasies.
"So, I guess we’ll have to make Princess Odette something to thank her for saving you, hmm?" Ariel asked leaning back in the chair now arms crossed.
"Yes!"
