Chapter 44

Chapter 44: Chapter 44

After the meeting with Professor Orion, I went to Athelyn. I took a deep breath, feeling the familiar salty air fill my lungs. She had been here once, but the the beauty of it still captivates her. She pulled out her phone and dialed Stephen’s number, waiting for him to answer.

"Stephen, it’s Remillia. I’m back on Athelyn," I said.

Stephen’s voice came through the phone, his usual calm tone a bit more elevated this time. "Remillia, good to hear from you! I wasn’t expecting you so soon. What’s the plan?"

I smiled. "I’m looking for an agent to help me with this hunt. I need someone with carrying my hunt today."

was a pause on the other end of the line, and Remillia could almost hear Stephen’s wheels turning.

"Of course, I’m always available. When do you need me to meet you?"

Remillia glanced at her watch. It was already getting late, but she knew that Stephen would be worth the wait.

"Now. I’ll be waiting for you at the entrance of Luama Island."

She hung up the phone and began to make her way at the entrance, her eyes scanning the island for any signs of danger. As she walked, she could feel the weight of her weapon and the thrill of adventure building up inside her.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, she saw Stephen walking towards her, his familiar outfit was the one she noticed first as he approached.

"Remillia," he said, his voice low and shy.

"What made you go back here again?"

Remillia grinned, feeling a rush of excitement wash over her.

"I lack combat experience that’s why I’m planning on training here more frequently," she said, clapping Stephen on the back.

"By the way, did you buy an extra pouch?"

"N-no hehe. How many are we going to hunt anyway?"

I inwardly slapped my forehead.

’How many more suffering did he get before finally meeting the MC?’

"Hayss. Did id you even have lunch?"

"No-yes! Of course!"

Just at the right moment, his stomach loudly grumbled.

We were silent for awhile. Him, avoiding my gaze while my eyes shoot daggers at him.

"Where did all your money go?"

"Oh, you see... I used my money that I earned with you by paying all my rent, penalty, debt, bills, and expenses in finding more clients in my agency. All I’m left with is about 5,000 Glacium. So I haven’t had the opportunity to buy another pouch."

"So did you have any clients?"

"None, so far. You’re the only one yet."

I sighed once again.

"Wait here."

I went to a secluded area and called out the system.

"Hey, system. I need you to open the system shop for me."

The system didn’t answer and just opened the system shop. I quickly scrolled through it and found the one I’m looking for.

————————————

Mystic Maravilla

A type of pouch that has the ability to expand and contract its dimensions at will, allowing it to store an almost limitless amount of items.

This storage space is infinite, and it can hold everything from small trinkets to large objects.

The weight stays the same as if it’s empty. No matter how many you put inside the pouch, the user can never feel the total weight inside it.

Cost: 5,000 PP

————————————

"Buy."

[You have purchased ’Mystic Maravilla’. You can summon it all you want.]

I scrolled again looking for something.

————————————

Nouria’s Nectar

A sweet, rare and exotic delicacy.

It has the ability to replenish the consumer’s energy and nourishment in an instant, banishing hunger and fatigue for a full 24 hours. It is said that once consumed, the food will grant the eater:

~ Unwavering vigor and vitality

~ A sense of clarity and mental focus

~ A boost to physical strength and agility

~ A heightened sense of well-being and overall health

Cost: 7,000 PP

————————————

I gnashed my teeth seeing how much it cost.

’This should be worth of it.’

I closed my eyes as I confirmed to buy it.

[You have purchased ’Nouria’s Nectar’. You can summon it all you want.]

I went back to where I left Stephen.

"Hold this for me."

I threw him the magic pouch. His eyes widened.

"Is this a storage expansion pouch?"

’Nope. It’s much better than that.’

"Uhhh yeah. I bought it before I went here and eat this before we go."

He looked at the piece of berry like food in my palm.

"What’s this? This is my first time seeing it."

"Eat it now, we’re wasting time."

"Why would I do that?"

"Stop acting like a chid, just eat it!"

"On other note, maybe you should just find another agent."

"Hey, look! There’s a 100 Glacium on the floor!"

"Whe-"

As his mouth is still open, I used my skill to accurately shoot the food straight down his throat.

"Ghukk! Blergh!"

He coughed nonstop as I gave him water. After calming down, he exclaimed.

"Did you just feed me that weird food?!"

"Oh come on, you’ll feel better, trust me. Now let’s go, we wasted a lot of time."

As they entered, the island. Their heart throbbing but on different reasons. Remillia, feeling the excitement of hunting while Stephen, feeling the dread of eating that weird food.

~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Remillia was full of wounds and scratches as she watched Stephen put the last monster in the pouch. It had been a long and grueling six hours, but Remillia had certainly earned more experience.
There are a total of four Standard Rank monsters that she had hunted down.
First one, the notorious Gorthok, a brutish creature with razor-sharp claws and a taste for destruction. Next was the eerie Shadowstalker, a ghostly entity that could blend into the shadows and strike without warning.
The third was the Glimmerbat, a flying creature with iridescent wings and a habit for attacking in swarms, luckily it was the only one separated from its group. And finally, there was the enigmatic Whisperwind, an ethereal being with wings like a butterfly and the ability to manipulate the winds.
As they made their way back to the gates, Stephen still felt energized even though he carried and packed all those heavy monsters by himself, thanks to the snack she forcefully fed on him.
It was already night as they approached the city, Stephen turned to Remillia with a grin.
"You know, I can’t believe you hunted four standard ranked monsters just by yourself."
Remillia rolled her eyes good-naturedly.
"I’m still lacking, I need to train harder."
"Do you have a teacher that trains you?"
[You’ve got some nerve there, you liar!]
’What do you want me to tell him then? That thanks to the system, I’ve gotten much stronger?’
[... Yes? Duh!]
’Stupid. Once I say that, they would probably put me in a mental hospital.’
"None. I only train by myself."
"You must be really talented then, you just got minor scratches. If others would have hunted this, they might probably be dead."
"How about my payment? Same as usual?"
"Yup, you’ll receive it in the next morning and also, thanks for the snack awhile ago, I appreciate it. By the way, where did you buy it?"
I turned to look at him.
"Oh that? I made it."
"Really? That’s amazing considering that it has fast replenishment properties. You should sell it then, I’m sure it’ll be a bestseller."
"No I can-"
’Wait, if I sell it then I’ll have lots of money then? Nevermind the popularity points, money’s the best.’
[You greedy witch.]
All she’s thinking about right now is the money she’ll have if she makes it her business as she started to laugh slowly.
"Ke. Ke. Ke."
[Stop laughing. You’re beginning to look like Satan’s spawn with that laugh of yours.]
Meanwhile, Stephen noticed her shoulders seem to shake as he heard her laugh. When he faced her, he almost ran away as he saw her laughing like a devil. He started to regret what he said about selling her snack.
’Maybe I should’ve just kept quiet about that snack of hers.’
~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~

I woke up on Thursday morning, feeling a bit stiff and sore from my monster-hunting expedition on Luama Island. As I slowly got out of bed, my smartwatch beeped, signaling two notifications.

"Macaron, can you get me my smartwatch."

<Here you go.>

I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and checked my watch. The first notification was from my bank account, informing me that Stephen had successfully deposited my earnings from the hunt. A whopping 2.5 million Glacium was now sitting in my account.

’It was worth it.’

[Is money all that matters to you?]

’Yesss. It feels nice, waking up at the sight of money greeting you. You won’t worry about food, paying the bills, shelter...’

I opened my eyes. I’m getting emotional, I don’t want to remember it anymore.

"Now, let’s check the other one."

The second notification caught my attention. The message was straightforward:

Field Sports Club

Community Event: Wild Animal Hunting Competition

Date: Today

Time: 10:00 AM

Location: Aetherspire, Eldridge, Aeonia

I groaned inwardly as I read the notification. I didn’t really want to attend. Hunting animals? It sounded like a chore, not a fun community activity.

But then I remembered that I had already accumulated two absences, which would likely get me kicked out of the club. I didn’t want to risk losing my membership, especially since the first place I joined this club is to protect the main characters from the hands of that unknown sender.

’Hah. It really is a pain in the ass saving these main characters.’

With a heavy sigh, I made up my mind. I would have to attend the event today. I hoped that it would be more enjoyable than I anticipated.

~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
’Oh god. Why is she here again?’
As I await for my turn to enter the portal going to Aeonia, I suddenly saw Claire talking to Angela.
I annoyingly scratched my head. This was supposed to be regular hunting day. Not to be a bodyguard to a spoiled princess today.
’Should I just kill Claire? If I do that then I don’t have to worry about Cypher being liked by a crazy psycho.’
I snapped out of my thoughts. I called out to the system.
’Hey system, are there no any information about Claire Danes?’
[Apparently, there is.] freёnovelkiss.com
...
I went silent for a moment then my expression turned ugly.
’Why are you saying that to me now?! I’ve waited for that information for a while now!’
[She doesn’t look much of a threat before so I figured you wouldn’t need it until now.]
’Just open it now! You’re one heck of a lazy system!’
[Alright! Alright!]
————————————
Claire Danes (Rogue)
She already bears the mark of Khaoskha during the monster hunting in Eridoria Dungeon.
Ability: senses heightened, reflexes quickened, and her physical prowess became stronger. Has dark magic disguised as the thousand sun.
Skill: ’Solar Masquerade’ A dark magic that manipulates the appearance of normal magic to disguise its true nature.
————————————
I immediately searched for Khaoskha.
————————————
Khaoskha
The Lord of Obsession, Chaos, and Destruction. Grants immense power, strength, and agility to those who make a pact with him.
Sign of his influence: a red left eye.
————————————
’Sh!t! Sh!t! How the f*cking f*ck did this happen?’
Claire is one of the side characters that is obsessed with Cypher then because of the progressing affection of Cypher and Angela, she got overly jealous as she tried to push Angela on top of the building.
Luckily, Angela defended herself well as Cypher came running to her rescue. In the end, the one who fell on the building was Claire. She only had a minor role to strengthen the bond between the two.
’So why the heck did she become a Rogue? It seems that the plot changed again.’
I need to keep an eye on Angela today. As happy as I am to just let her be killed, I can’t do it. My goddamn consciousness can’t allow it.
’Macaron, can you hear me? I need you to meet me at Aetherspire District in Eldridge, Aeonia.’
<Roger that, meet you in 5 minutes.>
I finally stepped in the portal as I looked at them one last time.
’Why did she even approach Angela?’
