Chapter 48
The rest of the members seemed to be curious about what happened. I looked at Rex who was sitting alone on the long sofa.
"Move out of there."
Rex glared at her.
"Why would I?"
"Do you want me to tell the story or not?"
"Who do you think you are-"
"3."
"Wait, why are you-"
"2."
"What the-"
"1."
I was about to kick him when Cypher told him to move out. Rex muttered in his breath.
"Your lucky, Cypher came to help you."
"@sshole."
I laid down comfortably and put a pillow on my stomach.
"Okay, to make the long story short, Claire-"
Christian interrupted me.
"Claire? As in Claire Danes?"
"Yes."
"Wow that’s unexpected, she was so weak and shy-"
"Yeah, yeah. Now can I continue?"
"O-of course."
"As I was saying, she became a Rogue then attacked Angela but didn’t succeed then her next target was Cypher which she also failed because I was the one that killed her."
Cypher asked worriedly.
"Wait so you mean, you fought that Rogue twice?"
"Yep and it still hurts like hell."
"So that’s why you got that wound in the first place. I thought you got it when you were protecting me."
Whitney was the one who asked this time.
"How did you know that Claire was a Rogue?"
"Easy. She has the mark of Khaoskha. I met her at the dorm’s bathroom when I saw her covering her left eye with her bangs. If I’m not mistaken, her left eye was glowing red so I immediately went out of there. Does that answer your question?"
Whitney seems to be satisfied with my answer but it was all a lie. I already know the plot and with the help of ’Noblesee Codex’.
Christian asked me next.
"How did you know that she was going to attack Angela and then Cypher?"
"She was jealous of Angela because she and Cypher were close together almost like a couple then the issue about-"
Edge and Cypher cut me off simultaneously.
"How dare you say they are lovers?!"
"I just see her as a sister!"
"Chill guys! I just overheard a gossip that is widely known in the Academy that’s why Claire must have thought that Angela and Cypher are lovers because Claire is obsessed with Cypher and I overheard her talking at the day of the hunting competition. She was planning to kill Angela and cover it as an accident."
"And regarding about Cypher?"
I looked at Angela.
"You know what her last words are to us when she escaped in our fight right?"
"Of course! She said that if she can’t have Cypher then no one can."
Rex, being the slow-witted as he already is asked me.
"So what does that relate to the Cypher being attacked?"
Edge smacked the back of his head.
"Ow!"
"You’re really dense as ever."
Christian explained it to him.
"They figured that Claire would kill Cypher instead rather than giving him to others."
"Ohhh now I get it."
I finally eased their curiosity as I turned to looked at Cypher.
"By the way, why did you call me?"
"The main reason is because of the students who have gone missing one by one. Me and Angela should have been dead already if it were not for Remi. The higher-ups of the academy gave me this mission since they suspect that a student is doing all of this. They also gave me authority to choose my members and you’re the only one Remi, who I haven’t asked to join yet."
"Why me?"
Whitney and Angela simultaneously answered my question.
"You have good senses."
"You have great skills in combat."
Cypher continued to ask her.
"So are you in?"
"Are there any rewards?"
"I did hear the higher-ups say that we will be rewarded if we ever found out who the culprit is."
"Then I’m in!"
She sat up excitedly.
"What’s the plan?"
Cypher laid out his plan.
"Okay, so we already interviewed some of the possible culprits and you are also out of the list so that just leav-"
Her giddy smile was replaced with grimace.
"Wait what? Say that again?"
"...We interviewed?"
"No, not that. Who’s the godd@mn person that picked me as one of the possible culprits?"
No one answered. I clicked my tongue.
"Tsk! No one? After all the trouble I’ve faced just to rescue the two here and you suspected me being a Rogue?"
"Remi, calm down."
Cypher tried to calm me down but I was in a bad mood since Macaron woke me up from my precious sleep.
"Okay here’s the new plan, I’ll just quit and don’t help you with the investigation since no one still has the guts to say why I was chosen as a potential culprit."
I headed towards the door when Whitney spoke up.
"I-I was the one who was suspicious of you of being a Rogue but not until I heard that you helped Angela and Cypher here from a Rogue attack."
"No offense. I just wanna know who suspected me of being a Rogue."
And now that I finally met the other main characters, I can work my way for that sweet lazy life.
"Let’s get back to the plan. As Cypher said, we’re still in the middle of interrogation right? Have you already interrogated Sylvester the club president of Debate Club?"
"Yup and he’s clean. He has no bad records or whatsoever."
"I’ve got a bad feeling about him."
"Why do insist on interrogating him again?"
"I just know that he’s the one behind all of this."
"Do you have any relationship with him?"
Cypher asked me, his brows knotted together.
"What? Ewww, no."
"Then why do you insist that he’s the culprit?"
Whitney butted in.
"Maybe he dumped her that’s why she has a bad blood on him haha."
"Stop it, I never even approached him."
"Really? Sylvester is a well known playboy. We never know, maybe you meet up secretly?"
Angela questioned me.
"Is what Whitney is saying true?"
My head throbbed at their annoying remarks. I was about to say something when Edge talked ahead of me. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
"Guys."
With just one word, they all kept quiet, I was the only one who chuckled at their behavior. As expected of the soon to be antagonist, he really had the characteristics of a perfect villain.
Cypher cleared his throat.
"Back to our conversation, we need to know who the next victim will be, considering that we have a lot of students this year, we should..."
After discussing the plan, she was the first to go out since she’s feeling sleepy again.
She finally got close to the rest of the main characters although not that close, so she needs to cozy up to them, everytime they meet.
Christian, Rex, and Edge are the only one she hadn’t gotten closer, but before of thinking a plan she went to a nearby park and laid under a big shade of tree. A few minutes later, she sat down again.
"I should be busy training, why am I laying down here?"
"You deserve to have a rest day, you worked so hard these past few days."
"But what if another Rogue appeared and I still lack the strength?"
"They won’t attack considering you just killed one of their kinds."
"What if theu want revenge and plan to attack me while I’m sleeping?"
"Don’t be paranoid! This Academy has the best security!"
"And yet a Rogue had infiltrated this Academy."
....
The students who pass by the park all had their bewildered look as they watch Remillia talking to herself, she would talk while laying down then sit up again while talking. It’s as if she was arguing by herself.
"There’s no else besides her right?"
"Who’s she talking to?"
"Has she truly become mad?"
"I’m telling you she’s really a witch!"
"The Mad Witch!"
The students abruptly stopped talking and went on their way when they saw Remillia stood up with a grudging look on her face.
In the end, she forced herself to go to the training center, doing her regular training session.
"50... 51... 52..."
’I hate this.’
She didn’t know since that day, the students spread the rumors about her and she earned the title, ’The Mad Witch’.

Two weeks passed by in a blur. Within those weeks, I trained myself harder than usual. Before I go to sleep, I review the lessons I’ve learned and whenever I have free time in the afternoons or mornings, I contacted Stephen to join me hunt monsters as part of my combat training. Stephen’s now in a much better condition than the last time I saw him.
It was already Friday. I was focused on what the teacher is saying that I didn’t notice Ezekiel was sitted beside me.
"Starting next week, monday, your midterm exams will come up, the whole week will be about written exams and the next week after that will be your combat exam. If you fail any of the exams then I’m sorry but you’ll be repeating the subject. AGAIN."
I got bored on what the teacher is saying and watched the other students who are busy writing down on their notes, others are busy chatting, playing games, while some are eating hot noodles secretly.
I’m surprised the teacher didn’t still notice them or maybe she doesn’t care what her students are doing anyway. Then my eyes landed to the one seated beside me.
My brows immediately furrowed.
’What is he doing here?’
If I remember correctly, he was always seated on the front row. Always. So what changed his mind and chose to seat in the last row anyway?
He still didn’t notice me as he is busy staring on something. Curious, I followed his gaze and guess what? He’s staring on my notebook. As my curiosity doubled, I looked at what he’s writing and I almost laughed out loud when I saw it.
’He was copying my notes!’
To test out whether he is copying me, I wrote out ’Macaron’ then I looked at his notes, he really wrote the word ’Macaron’. I wrote again, this time my email. He copied it again.
’One more time.’
The last sentence I wrote is, ’Imacopycat’. In the end he didn’t notice it, a chuckle escaped my lips as I couldn’t hold it anymore.
"Miss Lockhart, do you have any questions?"
I looked at the teacher, dumbfounded.
’I only laughed a bit, it wasn’t even loud and I was the only one she noticed? Unbelievable! How about the other students-’
I was about to point at my classmates to tell on them but they were all behaved and had serious faces. The cup noodles, the game boards, and the gossiping stopped as they all looked at me.
’Wow, just wow.’
"I just wanna know if there are any remedial classes we would take if ever we fail one of our subject?"
The teacher looked at me with a satisfied look on her face.
"Great question! Of course there are remedial courses you would take..."
I didn’t listen to her anymore as I sat down and glared at them, they only looked looked away as they gave me a thumbs up.
’Amateurs.’
