Chapter 539: The Gathering of the Three-World Buddhas
Dealing with enemies and dealing with nemeses are completely different situations.
When dealing with an enemy, one calculates the gains and losses, weighing whether defeating the enemy is worth the cost. If it's not worth it, then there's no need to take action.
In the case that the enemy is too strong, there's even less of a reason to make a move.
Although Sun Wukong was very brave, he was not a foolhardy man. He dared to attack Wutian Buddha because of his ignorance of the fear.
However, once Jiang Liu informed Sun Wukong of the Wutian Buddha's strength, even surpassing Tathagata by half a step? Sun Wukong immediately backed down, with no intention of making a move.
If one cannot win, then why rush to engage?
But when it comes to a nemesis, there is no need to consider gains and losses.
If there is a grudge, then one will naturally seek revenge at all costs.
For example, Sun Wukong harbored hatred towards Tathagata for his betrayal and deceit from the past.
Therefore, even though he knew he was no match for Tathagata, Sun Wukong still wanted to seek vengeance on Tathagata. This is what a nemesis is!
Wutian Buddha was merely an enemy, not a nemesis, and therefore, if he was unbeatable, there was no rush to fight.
The group led by Jiang Liu, having no intention of taking action, accepted the invitation of Wutian Buddha and soon left the Witch Demon Forest, quickly disappearing into the skies of the Demon Realm.
"Farewell, Buddha!"
With Jumang at the forefront, the people of the Demon Realm prostrated themselves on the ground, loudly chanting as they felt Wutian Buddha leave.
Following the departure of Wutian Buddha and his entourage, Bodhisattva Guanyin felt the restraints on her body quickly dissipate.
Bodhisattva Guanyin had no intention of pursuing them but instead turned and left directly.
Being subdued with just a single move indicated Wutian Buddha's terrifying strength. Similarly, it also indicated that Wutian Buddha had discovered her presence.
As Bodhisattva Guanyin herself, her identity was exposed in the Demon Realm, and Wutian Buddha merely restrained her without laying a hand to kill her?
This caused a mix of shock and surprise in Bodhisattva Guanyin's heart.
Just like a person from the Demon Realm being discovered among the Immortals and Buddhas, they would usually be eliminated, right?
However, though she was surprised by her narrow escape, now was not the time to ponder such matters.
The Journey to the West Pilgrimage Team had been captured by the high echelons of the Demon Realm, a matter Bodhisattva Guanyin needed to urgently report back to the Great Thunder Monastery.
A Quasi-Saint level being was absolutely not someone she could contend with!
Soon, after leaving the Demon Realm, Bodhisattva Guanyin arrived in front of Tathagata at the Great Thunder Monastery.
"Great Bodhisattva Guanyin, you seem flustered. What happened?"

Seeing the worried expression on Bodhisattva Guanyin, Tathagata felt a sinking feeling in his heart, sensing that something was wrong. Nevertheless, he composed himself and asked Bodhisattva Guanyin.
"Reporting to Buddha..." With the urgency of the situation, Bodhisattva Guanyin did not waste time and began to recount everything that had transpired in the Demon Realm to Tathagata.
"Buddha forgives me, that self-proclaimed Buddha, Wutian, has unfathomable cultivation, and I am no match for him. I failed to protect Xuanzang and his companions!" After explaining the details to Tathagata, Bodhisattva Guanyin slightly bowed her head, with a posture requesting punishment for herself.
"Wutian!?" Hearing Bodhisattva Guanyin's account and understanding what had transpired in the Demon Realm, Tathagata's expression fell silent.
Bodhisattva Guanyin, with her head still lowered, waited for a moment. Tathagata neither blamed her nor pardoned her, only maintaining his silence.
This made Bodhisattva Guanyin secretly surprised, and she stealthily glanced at Tathagata.
She saw Tathagata's expression marked with silent contemplation and a face full of sighs and emotions, which made Bodhisattva Guanyin grow tense.
It seemed that Tathagata was aware of Wutian's circumstances?
It was just herself who didn't know?
"That Wutian, possessing Quasi-Saint cultivation, yet claims to be Buddha, is he really from our Buddhist Sect?" Observing the changes in Tathagata's expression, Bodhisattva Guanyin murmured to herself, now certain of Wutian's origins from the Buddhist Sect.
Indeed, a being of Quasi-Saint level claiming to be Buddha—could it be possible to say there's no connection with the Buddhist Sect?
But the thought of someone from the Buddhist Sect turning to Demon, even reaching Quasi-Saint cultivation...
This situation made Bodhisattva Guanyin shake her head inwardly.
During the Deification era, the Buddhist Sect converted three thousand Worldly Guests, yet one from their own ranks had turned out to be a Quasi-Saint. What an ironic slap in the face.
"Great Bodhisattva Guanyin, this business with Xuanzang, I am already aware of. You may go now," Tathagata finally spoke, seemingly having regained his composure.
But he only acknowledged his awareness; he did not say what should be done?
Bodhisattva Guanyin felt a secret surprise in her heart, but she dared not ask more. After nodding her head, she withdrew.
After leaving the Great Thunder Monastery, Bodhisattva Guanyin hesitated somewhat.
What should she do next?
The Buddha had not said whether she should continue to intervene in the rescue or to refrain; so, should she involve herself or not?
Being fully aware of the importance of the Journey to the West Pilgrimage Team, Bodhisattva Guanyin did not dare to act rashly. She wanted to ask for clarification, yet seeing Tathagata's demeanor, it seemed that there was something not quite right about Wutian, so Bodhisattva Guanyin did not dare to enter and disturb Tathagata again.
As Bodhisattva Guanyin was silently pondering whether or not to go in and ask, suddenly, a dazzling Buddhist Light appeared, drawing near to the Great Thunder Monastery.
Immediately after, a gaunt old monk appeared.
"I have seen Randeng Buddha!" Upon seeing the old monk, Bodhisattva Guanyin's expression changed slightly, and she quickly greeted him.
"So it's the Great Bodhisattva Guanyin. Why do you stand hesitating at the gateway of the Great Thunder Monastery? What is it that troubles you?" Randeng Buddha asked calmly, his gaze resting upon Bodhisattva Guanyin.
"Reporting to Buddha, it is like this..." Bodhisattva Guanyin began, telling Randeng Buddha about the happenings in the Demon Realm and her own current dilemma.
"Great Bodhisattva Guanyin, you may rest in the Purple Bamboo Forest for now. This humble monk has come to discuss this matter with the Tathagata!" Randeng Buddha said, nodding slightly.
"So that's the case! Your disciple understands!" With Randeng Buddha's words, Bodhisattva Guanyin secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Since Randeng Buddha and Tathagata were to confer on the matter, she believed that there was no need for her to get involved any further.
After speaking, Bodhisattva Guanyin bowed to Randeng Buddha once more and then left the Great Thunder Monastery.
Randeng Buddha did not behave haughtily but returned Bodhisattva Guanyin's gesture and then turned to enter the Great Thunder Monastery.
However, not long after Bodhisattva Guanyin had left the Great Thunder Monastery, she suddenly felt something and looked up.
Another brilliant Buddhist Light appeared in the sky.
"Is that? Maitreya Buddha!?" From afar, Bodhisattva Guanyin was inwardly shocked to see the Buddhist Light descending towards the Great Thunder Monastery, not expecting even Maitreya Buddha to arrive.
Does this mean, for Wutian of the Demon Realm, that the Three-World Buddha has gathered!?
Quasi-Saint Cultivation, Wutian Buddha... His existence is so important!?
Although the gathering of the three Buddhas is due to the importance of the Journey to the West Pilgrimage Team,
it is also the presence of Wutian Buddha that has brought the three Buddhas together to discuss how to deal with him, right?
…
"This humble monk greets Randeng Buddha!" After the gathering of the Three-World Buddha, Tathagata and Maitreya Buddha each paid their respects to Randeng Buddha in a very humble posture.
"Amitabha, this old monk dares not accept such a grand gesture from the two Buddhas!" Seeing Tathagata and Maitreya Buddha paying respects to him, Randeng Buddha also returned their gesture.
The Three-World Buddha appeared to be very harmonious with each other.
"Today, I have called both Buddhas here for a matter of importance. Xuanzang and his companions have entered the Demon Realm and found the remaining fragments of the Ninth Grade World-Destroying Black Lotus, but they are now detained by Wutian, so we must discuss how to rescue them..."
Tathagata concisely explained the situation and his purpose for summoning them.
"Wutian!? Is he starting to make a move within the Demon Realm? Is he about to strike against our Buddhist Sect!?" Maitreya Buddha's expression shifted subtly upon hearing this.
"Indeed, although his invitation to Xuanzang and his companions was to visit as guests, essentially, he has detained them!" Tathagata nodded and said.
"In that case, the matter becomes rather troublesome. Although Wutian comes from the Buddhist Sect, he harbors great hostility toward us. The Journey to the West Pilgrimage Team is of utmost importance to our sect. If he holds them in his grasp, he will surely be unwilling to release them!" Maitreya Buddha spoke gravely.
Although members of the Buddhist Sect are somewhat distant towards Ksitigarbha, in truth, Ksitigarbha does not bear any hostility towards the sect. It is merely a clash over the concept of reincarnation and some conflicts in Buddha's teachings.
Nevertheless, despite any disagreement, Ksitigarbha still endorses the doctrine of Buddhist Law—he is not an enemy!
Wutian, however, is different; not only is he hostile to the members of the Buddhist Sect, but he also despises its teachings. He himself is a renegade.
Therefore, his relationship with the Buddhist Sect is that of an enemy!
It was like when Tingdi captured Xuanzang; Maitreya Buddha was not particularly concerned.
But now that Xuanzang is in Wutian's hands, Maitreya Buddha found the matter to be troublesome.
Tathagata and Maitreya Buddha talked much between them—yet to conceive a suitable plan to rescue the captives seemed to elude them for the moment.
However, just then, Randeng Buddha, who had been silently listening and not yet speaking, suddenly raised his voice.
"Given these circumstances, why don't the three of us make a trip to the Demon Realm together?"
"All three of us, together!?" Upon hearing this, both Tathagata and Maitreya Buddha were taken aback.
