Chapter 637: Buddha vs Buddha
After sending a message to Wutian, Jiang Liu knew that this matter was of significant importance, and Wutian would definitely hurry over.
As long as Wutian Buddha arrived, he believed he could certainly rescue Bodhisattva Guanyin from Tathagata's hold.
Tathagata was a level 98 of the blue UI, a truly formidable level. In the ranks of Quasi-Saint, he could definitely be considered top-notch.
However, Wutian Buddha was a level 99 Golden BOSS.
Simply from the perspective of character UI and level, Wutian Buddha was even half a notch stronger than Tathagata.
Though this half notch might not seem like much, don't forget, Bodhisattva Guanyin also had her resistive abilities; if she willingly let herself be taken away, then naturally, nothing could be done.
But if Bodhisattva Guanyin did not wish to return to the Great Thunder Monastery, with Wutian Buddha there to restrain Tathagata, Bodhisattva Guanyin escaping was still achievable.
Therefore, at this time, his only task was to buy time.
And he had to buy time without leaving any trace, making it completely inconspicuous to Tathagata.
With a rapid thought process, seeing that Tathagata and Bodhisattva Guanyin had already turned to leave, Jiang Liu hastily called out, "Buddha, wait a moment!"
"What is it, Xuanzang? Do you have something else to say?" Hearing Jiang Liu's shout, Tathagata still gave him some face, turned his head back, and focusing on Jiang Liu, he asked.
"Buddha, I still have a few words I want to say to Bodhisattva Guanyin!" Thinking to himself how to delay further, Jiang Liu immediately turned his gaze to Bodhisattva Guanyin and spoke.
Hearing Jiang Liu's words, Tathagata pondered for a moment, then, appearing quite understanding, nodded, "Hmm, go ahead!"
Heaving a sigh of relief within himself upon hearing Tathagata's words, Jiang Liu felt that his plan to buy time was somewhat successful.
Immediately, he turned his gaze to Bodhisattva Guanyin next to him, bowed deeply with all solemnity.
Bodhisattva Guanyin did not speak, nor did she dodge, just fixed her gaze on Jiang Liu, waiting for him to speak.
Such a solemn bow certainly meant that Xuanzang must have something important to say.
"Firstly!"
Indeed, while bending in a bow, Jiang Liu had already thought through his phrasing and started, "Disciple would like to thank the Bodhisattva for her protection along the way. Your great kindness and virtue will never be forgotten! Without the Bodhisattva's guidance, disciple would not have embarked on the Journey to the West for Scriptures, and moreover, Sun Wukong and the others have also received enlightenments from the Bodhisattva, which is why they were destined to join me!"
"Secondly!" As if summarizing a certain type of work, Jiang Liu again deeply bowed to Bodhisattva Guanyin.
Then he continued, "This time, it is to apologize to the Bodhisattva. Although the Bodhisattva has tremendous grace towards me and even towards all our fellow disciples, however, today's necessity to kill Bajie forced us to not stand idly by, resulting in us severely wounding the Bodhisatva, and on behalf of all disciples, I apologize to the Bodhisattva!"
"Lastly!"
With a flurry, completely casting himself as a righteous and loyal person, he then said, "Disciple dares to ask the Bodhisattva, what deep grievances do you have with Bajie to necessitate his death for your satisfaction?"
Jiang Liu's lengthy speech came to an end, making everyone nod silently within.
Immediately, all eyes fell on Bodhisattva Guanyin, obviously waiting for her response.
However, facing Jiang Liu's inquiry, Bodhisattva Guanyin did not speak, her expression calm as if she completely disregarded Jiang Liu's words.
"This won't do, if Bodhisattva Guanyin doesn't speak, how can I continue to delay time?" Seeing that Bodhisattva Guanyin was truly tight-lipped, Jiang Liu felt an urgent need within himself.
Next to him, Tathagata, seeing Bodhisattva Guanyin's reaction, did not feel surprised.
He himself had asked her the reason, and she wouldn't say; it was within reason that she would not tell Xuanzang either.
"Bodhisattva, if the disciple's guess isn't wrong, it must be about that incident which occurred during the trial of zen minds among the four saints?"
Thinking of buying time, after a moment of urgent contemplation within himself, Jiang Liu then asked Bodhisattva Guanyin.
This question made Bodhisattva Guanyin react.
"Xuanzang! Stop speaking!"
Unclear whether it was simply because she did not want Jiang Liu to bring up past incidents or because she did not want to recall those memories, Bodhisattva Guanyin's expression changed as she spoke in a low voice.
"There's a reaction…" Seeing Bodhisattva Guanyin's demeanor, Jiang Liu muttered to himself in silence.
"Master, don't say anymore!" However, almost simultaneously, Zhu Bajie also spoke up, shaking his head at Jiang Liu with a pleading look, begging him not to probe into the past any further.
Nearby, Sun Wukong and the others looked oddly at Jiang Liu, they couldn't understand at all.
Didn't the master already know about the issues between Bajie and Bodhisattva Guanyin? Why was he revealing it today in front of Tathagata?
Moreover, in a manner that seemed digging to the bottom?
Concerning Jiang Liu's completely unusual behavior today, Sun Wukong and the others felt a bit astonished, of course, mostly puzzled.
Jiang Liu turned back and saw Zhu Bajie staring at him with pleading eyes, urging him not to dig any deeper.
After a brief contemplation, Jiang Liu heaved a sigh.
Alright, since Bajie was pleading so earnestly, was it really necessary to prolong the time at the expense of Bajie's suffering?
Jiang Liu remained silent, inwardly pondering whether or not to change the topic to delay a little longer.
"Enough, Xuanzang, there's no need for further words, all of you..."
Seeing that Jiang Liu remained silent with no intention of continuing, Tathagata also showed no inclination to wait any longer, and slightly shook his head at Jiang Liu.
However, before he could finish his sentence, suddenly, Tathagata's expression changed subtly as he looked towards the horizon.
A figure appeared, who arrived from the horizon in the blink of an eye.
And stood in front of Tathagata.
Tathagata appeared somewhat corpulent; whereas this figure looked extremely emaciated.
Tathagata radiated golden Buddhist Power; while the figure exuded a dark purple demonic Qi.
Beneath Tathagata, there was a golden Lotus Platform; and beneath the figure, there was a black Lotus Platform.
Whether it was the aura or appearance, this appearing figure and Tathagata were almost completely opposite, even diametrically at odds with each other.
"Is that you, Wutian!?" Tathagata's expression changed slightly as he looked at the sudden appearance of this figure.
Wutian Buddha had previously encountered him in the Demon Realm and in Tathagata's eyes, the opponent also possessed immeasurable Cultivation Level.
"Tathagata!"
Wutian Buddha's expression was cold, giving off a kind of aloof executive vibe, he nodded slightly to Tathagata as a greeting.
"You are a Great Saint from the Demon Realm, what brings you to the Mortal World today?" Tathagata frowned slightly and asked Wutian.
"I came for her!" Wutian made his intentions perfectly clear, pointing at Bodhisattva Guanyin as he spoke.
"For her? Bodhisattva Guanyin is a member of our Buddhist Sect!" Shaking his head, Tathagata naturally refused Wutian's request.
"Buddhist Sect members? Just because your Great Thunder Monastery is part of the Buddhist Sect, does it mean my Great Nirvana Temple isn't?!" Wutian Buddha retorted, eyes locked on Tathagata as he spoke.
"But Great Bodhisattva Guanyin has always been under my Great Thunder Monastery's..." Tathagata shook his head slightly, continuing to refuse.
"Ha ha..."
Yet, before Tathagata could finish his sentence, Wutian laughed loudly, interrupting Tathagata and said, "If her heart were truly with Great Thunder Monastery, naturally I would say nothing. However, her heart no longer resides there, she has succumbed to Demon Possession and naturally belongs to our Demon Realm now, you cannot take her away!"
"Amitabha Buddha..." Hearing Wutian Buddha's assertive words, Tathagata murmured a Buddha chant softly, left speechless.
Yet, formidable Buddhist Light burst forth from him.
"It seems, no matter how much is said, in the end, a confrontation seems inevitable!" Observing that Tathagata did not speak, merely released Buddhist Light, with a clear intention to fight, Wutian spoke calmly.
Wutian was obviously unafraid of a fight.
"Amitabha Buddha, I have long wished to experience the Supernatural Powers of a Great Saint from the Demon Realm. Why wait for another day when we can settle it today?" Tathagata said quietly to Wutian.
"Good! I, too, want to see what abilities you, the renowned Tathagata of the Three Realms, truly possess."
Wutian's face remained calm as he nodded.
Tathagata raised his hand, and slapped towards Wutian Buddha.
This slap looked light and breezy, seemingly without any momentum.
However, in the eyes of Jiang Liu and others, this slap seemed endlessly magnified until at last, each line of the palm seemed like mountain ranges covering the skies.
Wutian Buddha did not waste words either and extended a finger, pointing it towards the palm of Tathagata.
The action appeared light and breezy as well, but the finger gave off an unstoppable force.
It seemed as though nothing in the heavens and earth could block the power of this finger.
Intense, Jiang Liu and others watched the battle between Tathagata and Wutian Buddha intently, though it was just one move.
However, the fight between these two giants seemed to exist in another dimension.
With a snap, Wutian's expression remained calm as he withdrew his finger, which was bent at an odd angle, clearly indicating that the bones in the finger were fractured.

Despite the excruciating pain that usually accompanies such an injury to the fingers, Wutian Buddha did not even furrow his brow.
"Pfft!"
Similarly, Tathagata was not faring any better.
As he withdrew his hand, it was evident that Tathagata's palm had a bloody hole, clearly pierced through.
