"Um, I finished reading it."

"Oh?"

One afternoon.

As they were reading in the living room, Charlotte timidly called out to him.

Closing the book he was reading, Allen laughed.

"That was fast. You've already finished it?"

"Y-Yes. It was so interesting that it went by in a flash."

Still holding the thick book against her chest, Charlotte gave a small nod.

The book she was reading was about this country.

History, culture, major industries, and tourist attractions. It was a kind of guidebook aimed mainly at foreign visitors, written in a frank style, but the content was still very profound.

Charlotte was from the neighboring country, the Kingdom of Neils. Since this was her first time traveling abroad, Allen had chosen the book for her, thinking it would be useful for her to learn more about this country.

She lost track of time as she was immersed in reading.

Although it was a small thing, it was quite a luxury in today's busy world. In other words, it was something that shouldn't be done. Probably.

It also had the important purpose of giving Charlotte a rest, as she would have cleaned the entire mansion if left alone.

That's why Allen gave her a book, but he never expected her to finish it so quickly.

Charlotte happily flipped through the pages again.

"It also had an article about Athena Magic Academy that Allen and Eruca were talking about. It's a big school, isn't it?"

"Well, yeah."

Allen narrowed his eyes at the familiar black-and-white photo of the school building.

The Athena Magic Academy was an enormous institution. If you counted students, teachers, and staff, its population was about the size of a small island nation.

Although he was kicked out of there about three years ago, it was the school where he spent most of his life. Naturally, he still felt some attachment to it.

As he thought about how it might be nice to visit after a long time, an idea suddenly came to him.

With a sly grin, he turned to Charlotte.

"Is the school the place you're most interested in? Any others?"

"Hmm… There are a lot of places, but if I had to choose just one… ah!"

Charlotte was flipping through the pages when her hand suddenly stopped.

Allen tilted his head in curiosity as she stared at him with a hesitant, almost fearful look.

"If I told you the place I'm interested in... what would happen?"

"Then our destination for tomorrow's trip will be decided."

"I knew it!"

Charlotte cried out, then made a serious face. Allen shrugged at her strange reaction.

"Not a fan of long trips? Well, I suppose women do tend to have a lot of luggage."

When he had lived with the Crawford family, they had taken him on family trips about once a year. Remembering those times, Allen chuckled.

"I can carry your bags for you. I used to help my uncle carry my mother’s and Eruca’s suitcases all the time."

"N-No, that's not the issue…"

Looking slightly guilty, Charlotte shrank back and hesitantly spoke.

"I'm already indebted to you… I feel bad having you take me on a trip."

"You don’t have to hold back, you know."

"But I really love spending time with you here at the mansion, Allen-san."

Charlotte said, smiling innocently. There was no lie in any of her words, but... Allen felt a little dissatisfied.
