Chapter 20: Next Leisure World

Chapter 20 - Next Leisure World

Jason and Ryan stood facing each other in the training room, swords drawn and ready. Around them, other Hunter Studies students and the professor practiced as well, but nobody paid them any attention—the training area was spacious, and they occupied only a small corner of it. "Huh?" Ryan tilted his head in confusion, noticing Jason's confident stance. "What's with you today?"

"What do you mean?" Jason replied casually.

"Come on, not long ago, you could barely hold a sword properly. Did you secretly get stronger or something?"

"I worked out a bit," Jason said with a smirk.

"You sneaky bastard! All this time, I thought you were just slacking off. Don't tell me you're secretly training to awaken mana next?"

Jason laughed lightly. "I wish."

Mana was different from innate abilities. While abilities were something Hunters naturally possessed, mana had to be developed through rigorous training and talent. Most Hunters ranked C or higher could wield both their natural ability and mana. It was said that once your ability reached a certain level, awakening mana became possible. Jason personally thought that sounded like nonsense. Either way, without mana, surpassing D-rank was nearly impossible. "Alright, let's go!" Ryan said, charging forward with a swift swing.

Jason saw it clearly this time—his enhanced agility allowing him to react instantly. He raised his sword to block Ryan's strike.

Clang!

"Whoa!" Ryan stepped back, surprised. "You weren't joking. You really improved."

"Told you, I'm different now," Jason boasted, but soon realized Ryan wasn't giving his full effort yet. Ryan was only F-rank, but he specialized in close combat thanks to his steel-hardening ability. On top of that, he'd been training diligently for months. Despite Jason's improved stats, closing that gap overnight was impossible.

Soon enough, Jason was forced onto the defensive, barely able to block Ryan's precise strikes. After a short but intense exchange, Jason lowered his sword, panting.

"Alright, alright, you win," Jason admitted, breathing heavily.

Ryan grinned, barely winded. "Still, you lasted three minutes this time. Not bad at all—you couldn't even hold your sword for one minute last month. Honestly, if you awakened your ability fully, you'd probably leave me behind easily."

Jason chuckled bitterly. Ryan didn't know that Jason had already awakened his ability; the frustrating part was that it hadn't boosted his physical strength significantly.

"Yeah, maybe someday," Jason sighed, heading over to rest on a nearby bench. As he sat down, he noticed Ariana practicing in another corner of the room, engaged in a heated sparring session with their professor. Usually, she wouldn't bother training here without the professor guiding her.

Ariana focused intently, forming a small, dark sphere in her hand and launching it toward the professor. "Good use of your Gravity Sphere!" the professor praised. "But Ariana, you're still too slow. At this pace, your enemy would dodge easily."

Ariana didn't respond, her eyes narrowed in frustration. The professor was patient yet firm, easily handling her attacks and calmly offering pointers. Jason could tell that despite Ariana's arrogant reputation, the professor treated her carefully, no doubt because of her powerful sister, Helena.

Jason watched quietly, wondering how long it would take before he could stand toe-to-toe with someone like her.

In Korea, fewer than ten thousand Hunters reached A-rank. Among them, Helena stood near the top, recognized nationwide as a powerful figure belonging to one of Korea's top ten guilds. Her fame rivaled that of a celebrity. If she wanted, a single complaint from Helena could turn the entire Hunter community against someone—even respected professors weren't safe. It was no wonder people saw her as a future S-rank candidate. "Hey, still staring at Ariana?" Ryan asked, handing Jason a bottle of water. "Didn't you say you'd given up already?"

Jason took the bottle and drained it quickly. He looked at Ariana again and muttered, "You know what? I think it might be too early to give up."

Ryan laughed out loud. "Too early? Bro, wake up. She's not just out of your league—she's playing a completely different sport."

"Then I guess I'll have to switch sports," Jason replied confidently.

"You're seriously crazy," Ryan chuckled. "Anyway, wanna grab chicken and beer tonight?"

"Nah," Jason shook his head. "I'll be busy for a while."

Even as he said it, his eyes never left Ariana.

Back at his apartment, Jason quickly pulled out his smartphone and opened the "Leisure Life" app. A thought he'd been ignoring crept into his mind again. 'If I gain a supernatural power inside the amusement world, could I bring that power back into reality?' He didn't have an answer yet. But one thing he knew for sure was possible, 'I brought Rea's panties back with me. If that's possible, I can probably bring other things back as well.'

Jason imagined himself obtaining an incredibly powerful weapon from a fantasy world and wielding it in real life. 'Even if my own skills aren't great, the gear alone could make me strong quickly.'

For the first time, Jason browsed through the available amusement worlds, not for pleasure, but searching for power. His attention immediately landed on a title called Absolute Throne, available as a novel, drama, and even a game. It was a fantasy world filled with magic, rare items, and incredible weapons. But danger lurked everywhere, with monsters and rival powers constantly threatening survival.

Jason hesitated, looking carefully at the title. 'Could I survive there, with the way I am now?'

The second option that caught Jason's eye was Star Oz, a sci-fi movie he had enjoyed, set in space with intense battles between humans and aliens. It was an exciting universe, and perfect for testing his hacking skills. 'But... it's way too dangerous.'

In the world of Star Oz, human life was disposable. Compared to Absolute Throne, it was even more ruthless, with survival chances slim to none. He didn't just want powerful weapons. Jason wanted something permanent—a lasting boost in strength or skills he could use in reality. 'Vampire Investigator... This could work.'

Vampire Investigator was a Korean drama about a investigator transformed into a vampire. Near the series' end, an item called the Orb of Life appeared. Vampires who ate it turned human, but humans who consumed it gained immortality and superhuman abilities. 'Modern-day Seoul... I can make full use of my hacking there. Plus, the vampires aren't too crazy powerful.'
