Chapter 423 - Police Commissioner’s Truth Out
The Police Officers coated in their police uniforms appeared in front of the destroyed police station with their guns ready to be fired.
Fingers on the triggers, shoulders lowered, faces of concentration.
Around them, a vast layer of destruction was spreading till the end of the downtown.
The Police Station had fire raging, with lights flickering and clouds of smoke creeping.
The Police Officers couldn't believe the sight in front of them. An only hour ago, they were peacefully working.
Now, the scene was like from an apocalypse movie.
The highest-ranked officer present took an instant command, ''Call an ambulance!'' He shouted at his subordinate, who was carrying his unconscious body of Marshall.
The Police Officer laid Marshall down on the ground, put a bag under his head, and lowered the head to lay on the soft cushion.
He grabbed his phone from the chest pocket and dialed a hospital's number.
The highest-ranked officer turned toward everyone else present. Everyone waited for their commands.
''Let's search for any survivors!'' He shouted and pointed at the interior, ''The ones in jail will be perhaps fine; the steel cells should protect them. However, there were our colleagues that got buried in the debris, let's find them!''
''Yes, sir!'' The Police Officers saluted and ran inside the building alongside the highest-ranked officer.
They shakily walked over the rock debris, destroyed desks, and broken computers.
Pamphlets, notebooks, and papers littered the ground.
''You three, search for any survivors here!'' The highest-ranked officer pointed at three nearby police officers, who nodded in response.
''You four will go check the prisoners!''
''And, you three will follow me!'' The highest-ranked officer jumped over the debris and went past the kitchen that was in flames.
At the end of the cramped hallway, a light was barely visible.
The light flickered; the highest-ranked officer managed to see the end of the hallway and noticed an elevator with broken doors!
The Police Officers behind him thought about using the elevator to get easier access to lower levels. However, the highest-ranked officer thought it was a suicide!
''Let's take the stairs!'' He said and gave an explanation, ''I don't think it's safe to use it, especially knowing that the whole building might collapse at any moment!''
His subordinates widened their eyes in realization and started thinking that what he said was true.
They didn't dare to gamble with their lives.
*BOOM!*
The highest-ranked officer slammed his foot into a nearby door and broke it into pieces.
A small room with stairs leading to lower levels became visible.
They entered the room and walked down the stairs.
They had to dodge the falling debris during the descent, and a few almost hit others in the head; however, the higher-ranked officer managed to destroy the debris before anyone got hurt.
The Police Officers felt admiration toward him, the kind of admiration they had only shown toward one person.
Police Commissioner, Marshall!
Soon, they reached the basement area, which was in a worse state than any floor before.
The light had died down, and a thick cloud of dust clogged everyone's noses.
However, gladly one of the Police Officers had a flashlight on him, which he used to lighten up the place.
''Good job.'' The highest-ranked officer applauded at his subordinate's quick wits.
While he was trying to find a way to go further, one of the Police Officers wandered to one of the closets.
He curiously opened the door, ''AAHH!'' He fell down on his butt with shock visible from a mile away.
''What happened?!'' The highest-ranked officer rushed toward him and saw him pointing at the closet.
He glanced out of curiosity and widened his eyes in shock, ''W-What?''
In the closet, two unconscious bodies were hugging each other.
Two other Police Officers appeared next to the highest-ranked officer and exclaimed at sight.
''W-What the hell?'' None of them understood what the hell happened to them.
''Ahem.'' The highest-ranked officer cleared his throat and told one of them to take them to the first floor.
The one who found them volunteered, and with an excellent show of physical strength, he carried them on his shoulders and quickly left the basement.
''L-Let's proceeded.'' The highest-ranked officer wiped his sweat and tried to make it over to the end of the hallway.
They had to dodge the tiny pieces of rocks, falling debris, and the danger of getting hurt from nearby smoking hot pipes.
The highest-ranked office climbed over the mountain of rocks and, on the other side, saw another stairs!
'There were stairs?' He descended the small mountain and reached the stairs with two other police officers closely following behind.
They walked down the metal stairs and smelled the dusty air. They had to rip a part of their sleeve and cover their noses with it.
Once they reached the bottom, another cramped hallway became visible.
However, they could manage to see a door on the other side!
They couldn't see what was on the other side of the door properly.
''Let's go.'' He said to his subordinates and carefully moved forward.
It didn't take long for them to reach the door.
On the other side of the door, mountains of rocks, debris, and soil were gathered.
''This place seems to suffer most of the damage…'' He concluded and didn't recognize anything in the room.
''What was this room for?'' He glanced at his subordinates, who were as confused as he.
''Hmm…'' The highest-ranked officer started moving forward, ''Try to find anyone!''
''Yes, sir!'' His subordinates went to the mountain of rocks and tried to clear them out of the way.
The highest-ranked officer slowly made his way over to the room's west side, which was shrouded in mystery.
Instead of rock, the destroyed part was made from metal, concrete, and electronic equipment.
The highest-ranked officer stopped and glanced at the bottom of his feet. He accidentally stepped on a piece of paper.
''Hmm?'' He crouched and took the soft paper, ''Let's see… Maybe these will let me know what was happening here….''
He didn't expect to see anything. However, he wanted to test his luck.
And, his luck was indeed great.
''W-What!'' He screamed with disbelief, ''T-This cannot be true…''
''P-Police Commissioner created that monster?!''
