Chapter 454: Internal Conflict - First Half

— Noon —

— Golden Summit Building - The Golden Empire Group HQ —

In the opulent and expansive CEO office of the Golden Summit Building, Daniel was present along with Greed, President John Malcomes, and Cao Cao.

Daniel sat on the large sofa with Greed perched on his lap, guiding his hand to rest on her waist, nonchalantly displaying her affection without concern for President John Malcomes, who didn't know how to react.

As for Cao Cao, he completely ignored the couple's affectionate display. It wasn't that he was used to them, but he didn't mind it. Compared to the debauchery of Dong Zhuo's parties he had once participated in, this was nothing in his eyes.

"Go ahead, say your piece, Mr. President. I'm right here, don't mind her," Daniel said while cuddling with Greed.

"Yes, I also want to hear your explanation. How in the world did all the leads suddenly die along with those criminals you detained? Seriously... does your Super Max prison have the same security measures as a roadside convenience store?" Cao Cao added, further increasing the president's discomfort.

"Er... Mr. Cao, Mr. Emberweave. We deeply regret what happened and apologize for our lack of security measures to detect such infiltration. We have no clue how or when they infiltrated our detention facilities.

This is why... ahem..." President Malcomes cleared his throat. "Could you please sell us some security equipment from Astral Tech? With the upgraded security, we're confident we can prevent this from happening in the future."

"Oh, honey. This guy is smooth. He suddenly asks for our security tech, and his reason is pretty convincing too!" Daniel praised with a chuckle.

"Didn't I tell you, Danny? Mr. Malcomes is smooth, reflexive, but loyal," said Greed.

"Yeah, I see why you use him. Sorry, I mean..." Daniel apologized to Malcomes, trying to choose a more palatable word.

"It's okay, Mr. Emberweave, no offense taken. I know what I'm good for. I only want what is best for my family and not too bad of a country for my compatriots, that is all," said the president.

"As an apology, I'll authorize the sale of our advanced detection and security systems to you. You can contact Vicky for more details. I'll send some experts to the US under Vicky. You can consult them when the time comes," said Daniel.

"Oh! Thank you very much, Mr. Emberweave," the president thanked Daniel.

"Don't thank me yet, Mr. President. You don't owe me; you owe her a favor," Daniel said as he stood up and Greed stopped cuddling him, letting her beloved stand.

"Yes, certainly, Mr. Emberweave," said the president as he shook hands with Daniel and then thanked Greed once again for arranging the meeting.

After the president got what he wanted, he excused himself and left the room, leaving the couple and Cao Cao alone.

Once Daniel noticed the president had left, he sat down and spoke with Cao Cao.

"Mr. Cao," he started. "I hope you don't mind what Albert did."

Cao Cao smiled. "It's okay, Mr. Emberweave. In the end, we know who cooperated with the assassination order from the Qing Empire."

Daniel nodded in agreement, but he noticed Cao Cao's smile didn't reach his eyes. He was sure Cao Cao would remember this and find a way to get back at Albert later.

Well, as long as it's not too much and doesn't cause damage to the big picture, they can quarrel all they want, Daniel thought as he let out a sigh, reflecting on what happened in the morning.

— Morning —

Daniel had stayed with Greed last night. He wasn't there to do what lovers do when they sleep together but to finalize what could be sold and what couldn't from the list of technology that Astral Tech provided to her Golden Empire Group.

He had permission from Koyuki to stay there, as she had taken little Sylvana to stay with Envy. The little one was quite fond of Envy's cooking, so Daniel let her be and stayed with Greed. Wait... isn't this what Koyuki planned? Letting him stay with Greed, that is.

Of course, Daniel didn't do the deed with Greed last night, tomorrow Greed arranges a private meeting with him and the president after all, and he doesn't want to tire her out and get up late. They just cuddled together in the same bed and traded some kisses; that was all.

Besides, She said it was her first time and she wanted it to be special for him. Now Daniel was really looking forward to it.

Really, really anticipating it.

When morning came and the two arrived at the office, the first thing they encountered was Albert and several informers from the Whispering Hall waiting for them in the CEO office. How they entered without anyone noticing, Daniel didn't want to think about it, because it was Albert and his people. To Albert, the security here wouldn't be that different from a roadside lemonade stall.

"Okay, Mr. Worseley. How may I help you? Since you've come to me so early in the morning, you must have something urgent to tell me, right?" Daniel asked.

"Yes, my lord. Please take a look at this," Albert said, handing over a tablet to Daniel.

Daniel checked the information on the tablet and found that it detailed the involvement of individuals who had cooperated with those behind the assassination attempt on Cao Cao. The mastermind was revealed to be the Qing Empire, or rather, the Qing Dynasty.

Another piece of information showed traces of hellish mana detected in the southern part of the Confederacy's territory.

"You've worked hard. Is there anything you need? Consider this a reward from me," Daniel said.

Albert thought for a moment before nodding. "Yes, there is one thing, my lord."

"Oh? Tell me then. What do you need from me?" Daniel asked.

"I made a peculiar deal with someone to gain this piece of information, along with some funds for the Whispering Hall. If Mr. Cao were to hear of this, I think he and I might have a scuffle. So, could you please…" Albert was about to finish his sentence, but a familiar voice cut him off.
