Chapter 839 Unexpected Entanglements

Chapter 839  Unexpected Entanglements

Azazel scrutinized Pamela with a serious expression, causing her to shift uncomfortably under his gaze.

"Hey, if you're really a Goddess, then perform a miracle right now," Azazel challenged with a grin, crossing his arms expectantly.

Pamela hesitated, unsure of how to respond. "Uhm . . . my powers don't work that way," she admitted reluctantly.

Azazel tilted his head to the side, clearly puzzled. "Then how does it work?"

"It just happens . . . naturally," Pamela replied honestly, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Huh?" Azazel's confusion was evident as he tried to make sense of Pamela's explanation.

"Her powers are just like Lethargia then," Vivi exclaimed. Desira stepped forward, her suspicion evident in her tone. "Then just perform some unique magic for us. Show us what a goddess can do."

Pamela shrank under their expectant gazes, feeling the weight of their anticipation bearing down on her. She wanted to cry for some reason, feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to prove herself.

"I can . . . read your fortunes, and I'm extremely lucky," Pamela offered meekly, her voice tinged with uncertainty.

Initially, there was no reaction from the warlords, leaving Pamela feeling even more exposed and vulnerable.

As everyone sighed in unison, Pamela felt the weight of their collective disappointment pressing down on her spirit. With frustration boiling inside her, she couldn't help but burst out. "It's not my fault! That's just how I am!"

"Our first time seeing a Goddess, and we're met with this," Desira remarked, sticking out her tongue in dissatisfaction.

"Well I'm sorry that I'm such a disappointment!" Pamela wailed, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. "But I'm just a minor goddess! What else can I do?!"

"I guess there are a lot of minor gods around these parts," Azazel commented casually, his tone nonchalant.

"So much for getting excited about nothing," Iraelyn sighed, her disappointment palpable. "Are there any worthy foes around here?" "We're not here to spar!" Ren bellowed, his voice cutting through the tension in the air. "We're here to find Lorelai, and the sooner we find her, the sooner our mission is over and the sooner you can do whatever you want."

"Why don't we ask her help?" Vivi's suggestion drew everyone's attention towards Pamela. Pamela paused, stunned by the sudden focus on her. "M-me?" she stammered, still processing the idea.

"Who else are we talking about here?" Desira asked, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "Is she really a goddess? She seems more like an airhead at this point. Heaven should really step up their game and have better gods ruling this place, or it might be overrun by demons soon."

"Egh! D-demons?!" Pamela exclaimed, appalled that someone would dare to mention those vile creatures here. "Don't say anything about demons here! They're taboo!"

Desira smirked, clearly enjoying Pamela's discomfort. "Oh yeah? What are you going to do about it then?"

Pamela bit her lip, feeling a surge of frustration and helplessness. "I . . . I . . ." she hesitated before mustering her resolve. "I will report you to the guards!"

Azazel and his warlords exchanged a glance before erupting into laughter.

Pamela was baffled by the audacity of these souls. Most souls she encountered were either lost, ditzy, confused, submissive, or simply unaware of their surroundings. They wouldn't dare to talk to a god, let alone challenge one to a fight. But Ren had killed a god without a second thought, and these complainers seemed more brazen and dangerous, acting as if they could say whatever they pleased and do whatever they want without consequences. They were fortunate to have encountered her, but if they had encountered major gods, they might not have been so lucky.

The thought sent a shiver down Pamela's spine, and she couldn't help but feel a pang of pity for these lost souls.

"Go ahead and call your guards or whatever. I can take them on anytime," Desira taunted, displaying a cocky demeanor as she checked her nails in boredom.

"Don't mock her too much. She's going to cry," Elena added, trying to defend Pamela.

"Alright, enough already," Ren interjected, his tone firm as he turned to address Pamela. "You're a goddess, right? Then you must be familiar with this realm."

Pamela hesitated, unsure of how to respond, but before she could gather her thoughts, Azazel had already made a decision for her.

"Alright. This Goddess is coming with us. Don't bully her too much even if she's a hostage, alright?" Azazel declared, with a hint of amusement in his voice.

"H-hostage?" Pamela stuttered, taken aback by the sudden turn of events. She felt a knot form in her stomach as she realized she was now trapped with them, held captive against her will.

Initially, she had struggled with the idea of infiltrating Ren's group to get to Lorelai, but after witnessing Ren's formidable power, she had second thoughts. Now, she found herself in a situation she hadn't anticipated, and she couldn't help but wonder how it had all come to this.

Why was it that her luck didn't work this time when she needed it the most? Pamela lamented silently. Perhaps her luck had indeed worked, sparing her from being killed by Ren and his companions.

"Alright, come on now, Goddess, lead us to Whispering Peak where we will meet the Goddess of Gossip," Azazel said, breaking Pamela out of her thoughts.

Pamela paused and glanced at the others. "The Goddess of Gossip?" she repeated incredulously, realizing the audacity of their request.

"What in Heaven's name are you saying?! Don't you know that going in there and seeking the Goddess of Gossip is a sin, and you could get excommunicated for it?!" Pamela exclaimed, her voice laced with disbelief and fear.

These souls really must be crazy, Pamela thought to herself, her mind swirling with disbelief. She had anticipated a straightforward retrieval mission for Lorelai, perhaps facing some resistance from a minor deity or two. But never in her wildest dreams did she expect the Goddess of Gossip to suddenly come into the picture.

If she had known then what she knew now, Pamela would have bailed out of this situation before it escalated any further. But alas, hindsight was a luxury she didn't possess at the moment.

What had her luck and fortune gotten her into this time?
