Chapter 65: Another Suspicion

With each step, Elion's footsteps broke the quiet hallway, his face as composed as ever. Still, the tension in his jawline betrayed the tension he was holding back. Behind him, Kade followed, his expression a mixture blend of focus and curiosity.

Elion reached the heavy oak door to his office and pushed it open with enough force that it swung wide, revealing the room within.

Elion walked directly to the chair behind his desk and sank into it. He rested his elbow on the armrest, his fingers lightly brushing his jaw as his piercing gaze turned to Kade, who stood at attention a few steps away from the desk, waiting.

Kade cleared his throat, holding a leather portfolio in one hand. "I've finalized the deal with the Redstone Corporation," he began carefully, knowing well that Elion didn't tolerate meaningless chatter. "The terms are solid, and we've secured a favorable contract. It should bring a significant boost to revenue for the next quarter."

Elion's sharp gaze didn't waver as Kade continued, flipping open the portfolio. "Additionally, I've reviewed the expansion proposal for the East Ridge facilities. There's a minor hiccup—but nothing we can't handle."

Elion gave him a brief glance, a hint of approval flashing so quickly it was almost easy to miss. "Good," he replied flatly, but there was a hint of impatience there. "But that's not why I called you here."

Kade shifted his weight, his lips quirking into a wry smile. "I thought you'd say that. Still, you have to admit it's important."

Elion's gaze hardened, its intensity prompting Kade to stand a little straighter. "Important, perhaps. But not what I want to hear right now."

"Alright, alright." Kade raised his hands in mock surrender, his grin fading as he adopted a more serious tone. "I've got something you might find more... engaging."

Elion leaned back slightly, his fingers now laced together as he observed Kade with the intensity of a predator sizing up its prey. "Go on."

"The man from the party—the one stirring up trouble, or as we've come to call him, the bastard," Kade began, his voice lowering slightly. "He was a rogue."

Elion's expression didn't change, but the room seemed to grow colder. "A rogue," he repeate. "How did he manage to slip into the event?"

Kade hesitated, scratching the back of his neck. "Let's just say… it was a human-hosted affair. Their security measures aren't exactly designed to detect or deter someone like him. He must have blended in with the crowd. A flaw in their system, not like ours."

"Flaw or not, it almost cost us," Elion said, his voice dropping an octave. His eyes burned with restrained fury as he leaned forward, placing both hands on the desk. "I nearly considered cutting ties with Weston Inc. over this fiasco."

Kade's brows shot up. "That would be... bad. Losing that partnership—"

"For them," Elion interrupted. "The only reason I haven't acted is because this partnership still means something. For now."

Kade adjusted his stance, his gaze darting to the side as if searching for the right words. "And the rogue?" Elion finally asked, breaking the quiet. His voice was calm, but his eyes betrayed the storm raging within.

"Exposed to sunlight, as you ordered," Kade replied. "He screamed like a banshee, begged for us to end it. But an apology? Not a word. Seems like he'd rather be destroyed than admit he was wrong."

"Good," Elion said, his lips curling into a faint, cruel smile. "Keep it up. He needs to learn the price of crossing me."

Elion leaned back in his chair, his fingers tapping lightly against the armrest as Kade's words echoed in his mind. A part of him regretted not being there to witness the rogue's screams firsthand—the sound of desperation and pain would have been a fitting symphony for his arrogance.

But Elion pushed the thought aside with a faint sigh. There were more pressing matters demanding his attention. As satisfying as it might have been, he had responsibilities. Responsibilities like the woman carrying his child. Not that he'd admit it aloud, of course. Protecting her was just... practical. Nothing more. Or so he told himself.

Kade nodded, a flicker of unease crossing his face before he masked it. "Understood. But is that really all you wanted me here for? To update you on a rogue's punishment?"

Elion's eyes glimmered with something hard to pin down, his mouth tightening into a firm line. "No," he said after a pause. "There's something else."

He leaned back in his chair, his fingers drumming softly against the armrest. "Raelynn," he began, his voice softer yet no less intense. "She was saved by a man at the party. A man I'm ninety-nine percent sure isn't entirely normal person."

Kade blinked, his surprise clear. "You're saying he's… what, one of us?"

"Not entirely," Elion said, cutting him off before he could finish. His gaze turned sharp, his voice like steel. "Either that, or the rogue was pathetically weak—weak enough to be bested by an ordinary like him. Neither scenario sits well with me."

Kade frowned, his mind working through the implications. "So, what do you want me to do?"

"I want you to find out who he is," Elion said, his voice making it clear he wouldn't accept no for an answer. "Everything. His name, his background, his affiliations. If he's a one of 'them'..." He didn't say anything else, but the implied threat was unmistakable.

Kade's face grew more serious as soon as he heard that. "Understood. I'll dig into it."

With a quick nod, Elion glanced out the window, the morning light doing little to soften his hardened features. "This isn't just about the rogue," he said, almost to himself. "It's about knowing who's moving against us. If he's one of 'them', he won't be acting alone."

Kade stayed quiet for a moment, his gaze on Elion, a mix of caution and respect in his eyes. Finally, he said, "I'll start right away. Anything else?"

His eyes locked onto Kade again, the focus in them cutting like a blade. "No. That will be all. For now."

With a respectful bow of his head, Kade turned and left the room, the door clicking shut behind him. Sitting alone, Elion stayed quiet, his hands resting under his chin in thought. His mind raced with possibilities, each more troubling than the last.
