Chapter 8
Protection
Qiao Yue glanced at the third Madam indifferently. It seemed that this third Madam wasn’t as harmless as the information had shown.
This third Madam was quite smart. First, she emphasized her identity, saying that Qiao Yue was not yet a member of the Qiao family, and then she distorted the truth and indirectly reminded Qiao Jing that he should help his sister Qiao Xin.
Wow! Even at a time like this, she did not forget to extend goodwill to the first family. It made sense too because if the third Madam scolded Qiao Jing, the first Madam might not be happy.
“Third aunt, I’ve already checked Qiao Yue’s identity and only brought him back after Grandpa’s confirmation. If third aunt has any objections, you can take it up with Grandpa. Also, I can’t really agree with third aunt’s so-called ‘lesson’ that takes one’s life.” Qiao Jing said to the third Madam with a mocking expression. 𝙛𝚛𝙚ewe𝗯𝓃𝗼ѵ𝚎Ɩ.𝒄o𝐦
The third Madam’s face turned ashen when she was exposed by Qiao Jing.
Seeing that her son wasn’t giving face to the third family, Tao Xi quickly rebuked, “Xiao Jing, go back to your room!”
“Mom, I don’t want to hear what you just said a second time.”
Tao Xi was stunned at first, but when she saw Qiao Jing’s cold face, she immediately understood that he was referring to the matter of Yuzhang Academy. She couldn’t help but feel embarrassed and didn’t speak again.
“Mom, I’m tired. Let’s talk tomorrow.”
Qiao Jing turned to leave as soon as he finished speaking, but Qiao Yue didn’t follow him.
Qiao Yue was busy watching the show. Her eyes inadvertently met Qiao Jing’s and she pursed her lips like she had been caught. But it felt good to have someone protect her. Her second brother was very interesting!
“What are you waiting for? Keep up,” Qiao Jing said coldly to Qiao Yue.
“Alright,” Qiao Yue replied with a smile.
Qiao Yue didn’t look at anyone else when she left; she only threw Qiao Xin a happy glance.
Qiao Xin, who was buried in her mother’s arms, was also peeking at them. Her eyes widened instantly in anger, and she panted like a dog.
When the two figures disappeared from her view, Qiao Xin couldn’t help but shout, “Has second brother gone crazy? Why is he protecting an outsider? I’m his sister!”
Although Qiao Xin was complaining about Qiao Jing, Tao Xi didn’t refute her. She didn’t understand her son’s thoughts. No matter how she looked at it, it would do more harm than good for Qiao Yue to rejoin the Qiao family.
Tao Xi glanced at Qiao Xin and the third Madam, then turned around and told the servants to take care of the snow wolf carcass. She didn’t mention Qiao Yue again.
Meanwhile, Qiao Yue followed Qiao Jing to a room on the third floor that was arranged for her.
The room was black and white-themed, and the decorations were minimalist, much like Qiao Jing’s style.
Qiao Yue walked to the floor-to-ceiling window and looked down. The room faced a large lawn and had an excellent view.
“This will be your room from now on. If you want to change anything, you can tell the butler.”
“Alright,” Qiao Yue answered before she continued with a smile, “Many thanks, second brother.”
As Qiao Yue spoke, Qiao Jing also walked into the room and stood in front of her.
Qiao Yue raised an eyebrow and glanced at the closed door. “Is there anything else, second brother?”
“Qiao Yue, let me take care of the dangerous items on you,” Qiao Jing said after hesitating for a moment.
Qiao Yue looked straight into Qiao Jing’s eyes. Although he was smiling, his eyes were frighteningly cold.
“Why?”
Qiao Jing frowned as he answered, “No need.”
Qiao Yue completed Qiao Jing’s sentence in her heart, “We don’t need these things at the Qiao residence.”
Qiao Yue smiled mockingly as she said, “Second brother, I have to thank these things. If it weren’t for them, I don’t know what would have happened to me today.”
Qiao Jing fell silent at the mention of Qiao Xin’s incident. He looked at the teenager in front of him, who was arrogant and roguish, and frowned even more. Qiao Yue was only 18 years old, but his aura was no weaker than his, a person who’s scheming and fighting all year round.
Qiao Jing was curious about Qiao Yue, but if this person got out of his control, he would be in trouble instead of having fun.
In that awkward moment, a knock on the door suddenly sounded.
“Little Five, are you there?”
It was Qiao Ze’s voice outside the door.
Qiao Jing didn’t speak. He glanced at the slight bulge at the teenager’s waist and said, “Keep it well. Don’t take it out unless you have to.”
“Alright,” Qiao Yue agreed readily.
Although she didn’t care about what the Qiao family thought of her and how they slandered her, Qiao Jing’s protection of her made her think the better of him.
For whatever reason Qiao Jing protected her, since he had already done it, she would remember this favor.
