Chapter 223: Of course, you still have it, right?

The Spirit felt a chill up her spine as Han Li's red gaze looked at her like food ready to be eaten. She felt naked in front of his gaze.

'Life Vision,' Han Li thought calmly.

Her information began to appear before him, but it was no longer as it used to be; now, he could see deeper. His gaze could well and truly penetrate souls.

The Sacred Eyes gave him every facet of the Spirit, Munyu. There was no way she could hide anything—being able to see Existence had changed Han Li's perceptions itself, so of course, his greatest investigation ability, "Life Vision," improved.

The options to see what her cultivation was in the previous life were unfunctional. After all, his previous life memories were premonitions, and he was now reading her own Existence to understand her powers. He was, in a way, forcefully reading her memories about herself without doing that.

Then, he would compare her memories with his own to make a true understanding of this once-enemy of his. How can she know how strong she was in her past life? From her memories, of course, he couldn't gain future knowledge regarding her.

But in the Spirit's case, her future was not important. What was important was her past.

He knew that in the future, Yang Wei would become a Transcendent out of nowhere and become the sect master of one of the four sects. Han Li was the extra then, and the effort of a combined attack from everyone had killed him.

That meant… something.

For a Power Born to become Transcendent, they only needed one thing.

They didn't have to be extremely talented, they didn't have to be the best at what they do, they could be the most unremarkable Power Born, and they could still Transcend. But there was one thing that they needed to do that.

And for that one thing, every time it appears, the Sacred Lust Continent itself goes to war.

Transcend Mortality Orb.

Han Li and Yang Wei had no real connection in his past life, but he knew who the person was even before he regressed. He knew Yang Wei.

Every 400 to 600 years or so, a battle, a war, happens. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

This battle would always be extremely important — it was called the Transcendence War.

The next Transcendence War was merely about 12 years away now.

In this war, Power Born individuals—people at the level of clan heads—would all join in an attempt to claim a unique magical resource that was essential in breaking through from Power Birth to the Transcendent Stage.

It was a war for breakthrough!

The resource was indeed… Transcend Mortality Orb. Only if they absorb it can they Transcend. If they had it, they needed nothing more.

Every Continent among the seven great continents only had a set number of this resource, and it was an absolutely important thing for a Power Born.

If they didn't get it in their generation when they were young, the next time the war happened, they would be nearly dying due to age after all. Their lifespans could only last for one generation of the war.

If they got it this time, they could live long. If they didn't, they would have to die.

Sacred Lust Continent only had 4 Orbs every generation.

So, the wars were absolutely savage, with almost all the clans getting involved, as long as the Power Born had even the slightest hint of ambitions.

In his past life, he had been nothing in the war 12 years from now other than one of the thousands upon thousands of Evolved.

Only in the war after that, 463 years later today, had he fought in his own war and won one of the orbs, becoming a Transcendent.

But that was not the intriguing part.

To Han Li, that was just a memory. What mattered was Yang Wei.

He was a legendary person in his past life.

All four of the Orbs were taken by some Power Born as the war concluded—one of them being in Han Li's hand—and the other Power Borns were completely out of steam to fight back.

The war of Transcendence ended, and the next generation's Transcendents were decided.

Han Li was one of the four.

His life was supposed to be calm for a long time from then. Transcendents usually had 600 years of Lifespan at best, after all.

Yang Wei was not one of those four. He was just a failed Power Born in their eyes; he hadn't been able to get the Orb, and he would die pretty soon.

But as the four people started to get ready to settle back and inherit one of the four sects each, as was usual after someone Transcended, something unusual happened.

A fifth Transcendent appeared out of nowhere and inherited one of the four sects' mantle, the Bewitching Beauty Sect—the sect that owned all brothels throughout the continent—before Han Li could.

Each sect could only have one Sect Master in a generation.

The sects seemed to hide some immense secret inside them, and the other three sect masters began to fear Han Li's existence.

In each generation, there could only exist four Transcendants, and at the time of the Transcendence Wars, the alive Transcendants would be at their weakest.

Their lifespans would be nearing the end, and each of them would only have 200 or 300 more years to live.

Once the war ended, they would soon die of age. Treasures like Lifespan Increasing Dew didn't work on them. Only Transcendent Resources worked, and there was no such resource that could increase Lifespan, which they knew.

So, once the four old Transcendents die, the next 500 or so will be peaceful times of rule for the new ones.

There would be no wars, and there would be no need to fight—even demons who killed millions won't be considered like one after they Transcend. They could change their life around and call themselves saints, and no one could say otherwise.

There would only be four of them as equals at a time in the continent. Why fight and destroy peace for no reason?

Naturally, none of them wanted that.

But the 5th Transcendent's entry changed this. He was a threat to the power they held over the 4 Sects. The power of the 4 Sects was more than what met the eye, and no Transcendent wanted to let it go.

There were secrets inside that Han Li still didn't know to this day. That was one of the reasons he wanted to build a sect for himself.

So, since Yang Wei already inherited one of the four, only Han Li was left without a Sect to inherit.

He hadn't bothered caring about it at first.

Thus, he lost the chance to win it for himself.

Thus, in the peace of the other four's peaceful future life for the next hundreds of years, a potential danger appeared—Han Li. The Great Demon of the era who wouldn't mind killing infants to achieve his goals.

What if he one day coveted one of the Sects after knowing its true secrets?

What if he assassinated one of them when they were enjoying life?

Indeed, even bold men who had won wars would become cowards when they had things to lose. They feared such a possibility and teamed up in order to kill him.

And then, Wang Ren—the new Transcendent Sect Master of the Demon Restraining Temple of that generation and a current Power Born—killed Han Li by stealing his Sword.

Han Li's sword was connected to his Existence. If someone stole it and removed the Mark of their own Existence on it, Han Li would die.

He hadn't known how his sword had been stolen before, but he now knew. Some people in this world did have knowledge about the… Existence.

Most probably, that was part of the secrets that the Four Great Sects—Demon Restraining Temple, Wisdom Seeking Villa, Sacred Cult, and Bewitching Beuty Sect—were hiding from the normal people.

And Wang Ren had probably used that knowledge, which Han Li never had the chance to get in his hand, to ambush him by stealing one of his still greatest weaknesses—Han Li's Life Sword.

If someone who knew about Existence could get their hands on it, killing Han Li wouldn't be too hard. When they get the physical sword in hand, they just needed to touch the part of his Existence that was in the Sword.

The Sword and him were practically one, after all.

That was why he never took it out of his body these days, even for training. It was the safest if he kept it inside him forever. He wasn't a fool to jump in hot water twice.

But Han Li himself was a bit proud of it all now that he thought of the whole ordeal from a different angle.

They were Transcendents who even had the knowledge of Existence, whereas he was an ignorant Transcendent—who couldn't get new knowledge from the Four Sects' generational wealth of information as they did after leveling up.

Yet, he was an unkillable cockroach even for them.

They could only ambush him.

Now that he thought of it, he had never been touched by any of them, as he was extremely cautious of them at that point. If he had been touched, he would have probably not lasted as long as he did and would have fainted like when Liyue touched him.

He could still remember that they had indeed tried to touch him. Only now did he notice that little detail. Who would have known they could make him faint with a touch?

Thankfully, he hadn't really fought them with fists like he fights these days or he would have been offed so much quicker.

But at that point… he didn't even have the Lust Dao as his own.

He just had his sword mastery, his powerful physical body, and normal Transcendent powers. And his Sacred Talent Cultivation.

Now, he was even more of a monster. He couldn't even fathom how strong he would be when he Transcend.

He had a lot of things he didn't have in his past life already: complete ownership over Lust Dao, Life Vision, knowledge of Existence, level one Heart Qi that only Transcendent had at Evolution Stage, and way more.

Just Heart Qi alone would raise a level with each Cultivation Breakthrough.

Han Li didn't even know his actual battle strength at the moment, not to mention the future.

He had to fight to find out, but he didn't want to reveal it to Monk Hen Shin; that had been why he was so restrained. If he fought, it might cause a ruckus.

Sighing, Han Li squashed that bit of pride he had in himself away from his mind.

He had died in the end.

The way it happened didn't matter, how he suffered didn't matter, and the ends justified the cause.

He died. He lost. They won.

Pride in losing?

How disgusting. It was only less disgusting than pride in winning.

It was all the same.

If he won or lost, nothing would matter if he died in the end.

Only Eternal Life, control over Life and Death, could make him stand beyond it all and have the final laugh. Only that win was worth having.

He looked at the Spirit with glittering red eyes.

"Oh beauty, tell me, where is the Transcend Mortality Orb in your hand?"

For a Power Born to become Transcendent, they only needed one thing. Transcend Mortality Orb. The sweet, sweet, one thing.

Of course, if Yang Wei was anything special, the reason for the specialness was obvious.

The Spirit.

It must still have that Orb that Yang Wei used in Han Li's past life. Han Li had been so regretful when he thought the Spirit died without him being able to get that. Now, there was no need to worry.

It was better left with him.
