Chapter 37: The seals are broken: an overwhelming power is being unleashed

Chapter 37: The seals are broken: an overwhelming power is being unleashed

Frank’s stomp comes down fast.

Chantal lies there, completely helpless. There’s no energy left in her body.

If that hit lands, she won’t survive.

But then...

–BOOM!

A beam of light flashes. Its color flickers between dark purple and blood red.

It hits the ogre straight in the chest, right before he can crush Chantal.

The blast throws him to the ground.

Chantal slowly turns her eyes toward where the beam came from.

A weak smile forms on her lips.

Rika stands beside Hakuto. Her body releases a storm of glowing particles that swirl around her. The black membranes of her wings have turned blood-red.

She stands proud and powerful, her arm outstretched toward the ogre’s last position. Blood drips from a wound on her palm.

But what shocks Chantal most isn’t the power. It’s Rika’s eyes.

They flash, shifting between purple and red. Her gaze is cold. Too cold. Serious.

So intense that even Chantal feels a chill of fear and awe.

«So... this is what Shin meant... when he said Rika holds power even greater than Itsu in her Innatus-form...» Chantal murmurs, her voice shaky. But she smiles—satisfied, electrified.

«...If I died before fighting her... I’d never forgive myself...»

Even Frank is frozen. His eyes are wide with terror. His legs tremble. His teeth rattle uncontrollably.

He steps back, one slow step at a time.

Ogres have a natural ability: they can measure someone’s power with a single glance. It’s an instinct meant to keep them alive—so they don’t fight enemies stronger than themselves.

He faced Hakuto, Chantal, and Yuzu without flinching. His eyes told him they were too weak to beat him, even together.

But now it’s different.

Rika’s power terrifies him.

He tries to run. But he can’t.

Ana’s barrier still surrounds the area.

She put it up to stop their enemies from escaping and to block outside interference. She was confident.

Too confident in their superiority.

Now that barrier has turned into a trap. Frank is stuck. And Ana, unconscious, can’t bring it down.

But Frank sees one last way out—kill the one who cast the barrier.

That’s his plan.

He locks eyes on Ana and charges at full speed.

Or at least, he tries.

Before he can move, Rika appears in front of him. She moves so fast, not even the ogre’s eyes can follow.

There’s no turning back now—the fight is inevitable.

Frank throws a violent left punch. But it doesn’t land.

His fist stops before hitting her—blocked by the mist of glowing particles swirling around Rika’s body.

She spreads her scarlet, demonic wings wide.

From the membranes bursts a storm of metallic projectiles, blood-colored, all aimed straight at Frank.

The ogre’s body is torn apart at point-blank range, pierced dozens and dozens of times.

A sharp, shrill howl bursts from his mouth. Blood jets out from his wounds like from a pierced water balloon.

But an ogre’s physical toughness is unmatched.

Frank jumps back fast—but hits something hard right behind him.

He turns around, panicking.

Rika is already there.

He didn’t even see her move.

With a single flap of her wings, she sends out a violent gust of wind.

It slams into Frank and hurls him into the rocky wall. The impact is so strong the stone cracks open.

Hakuto’s eyes, tired and weak, stay locked on Rika. Not even for a second does he look away.

~That girl... is she really Rika...? It’s hard to believe. Just moments ago, she couldn’t even cast a basic spell. And now—freed from the seals—she looks unstoppable. She’s surpassed even Chantal... Is that why they’ve been hunted since birth? To uncover the secret behind that power... to copy it? If so, then protecting them is more important than ever. If that power falls into the wrong hands, it’s all over. But still...~

Hakuto’s gaze softens.

~...with that kind of power, does she even need someone like me to protect her...?~

Frank, buried under the rocks, rises with effort.

The dozens of wounds from Rika’s spike storm have already sealed—completely coagulated.

His muscles tense. Swell. His battered body begins to emit a faint violet glow.

He releases a deafening roar—filled with desperate rage and savage ferocity. A last attempt to frighten Rika.

But she stays still, unfazed. Just a few meters from him.

Her hair shifts slightly, moved by the air disturbed by his scream.

Then his muscle mass swells even further.

His skin tears from the pressure. Geysers of purple smoke burst from the wounds—and from his mouth.

His feet sink into the ground, cracking it apart.

He pulls back his left fist. Bends his knees.

And charges with one final, desperate blow.

Frank’s powerful punch comes crashing down on Rika—but she doesn’t move.

Just before impact, her wings fold around her like a shield.

They absorb the blow completely.

A strike that would’ve killed someone like Itsu in her Innatus-form is erased—nullified without effort.

Everyone watching is left breathless.

Chantal stares at the scene, mouth open. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

She’s not just shocked—she’s nervous. Frustrated.

She always believed she was strong. But now her beliefs are crumbling.

What she sees in front of her is TRUE strength.

Something beyond anything she imagined. Not even in her worst nightmares.

And the most terrifying part—Rika isn’t even close to the strongest.

Chantal knows that well. At the HESPARC Academy, she learned that in N’Raeth, some beings are so powerful they rival gods.

~If this is the power of a hybrid between two common races like vampires and succubi... then how insanely strong must beings like Rakvaron, the Demon God or Nyartalir, the Primordial Shadow be...? Humans wouldn’t stand a chance. Not even for a second.

So what’s the point of HESPARC...? Why train us to fight demons if some of them can erase us with a breath...?~

Chantal keeps asking herself.

The burns on her body hurt. But they’re nothing compared to the wounds on her pride.

«And now...»

Rika’s voice is cold. Emotionless.

She raises her arm and points her index finger at Frank.

He’s completely drained.

A small sphere of energy glows at the tip of her finger.

«...I’ll end your worthless life!»

She draws a small arc in the air, sliding her arm slightly to the right.

A violet blade of energy bursts forth.

It flashes through the air—clean and instant.

Frank’s head is severed.

It hits the ground with a thud.

His body follows, collapsing at Rika’s feet.
