Chapter 57: Motherly Scold
She called again… line connected this time.
"Rio?" She asked worriedly after learning he had gone out of the snowy mountain. Her heartbeat wasn't stable reading the text that her little child took such a big risk.
"Hiii… I wanted to contact you but then saw your call was coming." He replied nervously as he was amazed she found out so soon.
He could guess that those three people at the yellow tower shelter exposed him even before he returned to the earth.
"Why did you sneak into the land of Asura without informing me?" Her angered voice was heard on the speaker of the phone, which was mixed with bitterness and sadness.
"I thought you wouldn't let me go so that was the only option. I also met a girl there who was temporarily living in that shelter. She helped me get out of that place." He offered her a flat lie. Hoping she would buy it.
He didn't want to sadden her but what option he had left?
"What if she wasn't there or had a bad intention? What If there was a beast again and harmed you? You shouldn't be so careless." She berated him with a harsh voice but Rio didn't feel bad as he could feel her motherly love in her voice.
Most children would have disliked it if their parents shouted at them for being careless but Rio's heart was feeling warm and ticklish as this was foreign to him.
'is this how it feels to have a mother?'
His second mother was angry at him because she was worried he could've gotten injured by his carelessness.
"Sorry, I was wrong." He apologized, which flickered with a saddened tone.
Hearing his sorrowful voice, she felt an ache in her heart. This caused her anger to calm down.
She spoke in a sweet manner, "I don't want to hold you back, child… But you need to understand that life is more precious than chasing powers. You can't just dive in because you want to be strong. Don't forget that there are people who would break down if something happens to you."
His heart shook hearing her last sentence.
Although it was a lie that he was stuck at a snowy mountain, Rio never had anyone before who would cry for him if one day something happens to him.
But now, there were at least two people, if not three, who would be sad if he died.
'Lia, Second mother, and maybe Nyla?'
He understood her reasoning and might have not used the portal capsule, as she advised if such dangers were involved.
However, it was all a fabricated lie and he needed to fix it. There was no other way around it if he wanted to go to the land of Asura again.
"Yes, I understand. I won't do it again." He mumbled quietly.
The second mother heard his response which came late as if he said it after understanding the sensitivity of the matter.
"Do you want me to come to the yellow tower of the Outcast and fetch you to my silver shelter?" She asked with a doting voice.
"I'm still at the yellow stage. Do you want to see me get along with those silver-stage deadly beasts?" Rio asked with a sarcastic tone.
"Don't worry about that, Little Rio. This second mother of yours can bring you to the Yellow-Stage shelters and help you evolve to a higher stage." She said to him with a nonchalant voice.
"Nah… if you keep protecting me like a mother hen then I won't be able to grow." He refused her offer.
"You're just like your mother, won't take help from anyone. Okay, Do what you like but you can always ask me if you need anything. Be careful though." She said in her usual caring manner.
"Thank you." He said quietly.
He could feel her motherly affection in her voice as she genuinely doted on him like a mother.
'When would I find the truth?'
He couldn't understand why she would be loving him like her own child.
"You must be tired from the long journey. You should rest. Take care, Rio." She decided to end the call and not disturb him.
Rio didn't know what to say as he didn't speak anything. The connection line ended.
He checked his phone for the newly frozen girl's messages, but there wasn't any notification from anyone.
"I wonder if Nyla will stay cold to me." He sighed inwardly.
His eyes stared at his sleeves which had dried stains of blood.
He scrunched his face and stormed into the bathroom.
After taking a relaxing shower and changing back into new clothes, he decided to return.
A white light drowned his figure and he disappeared from his room.
