Chapter 109: The Open Door

Chapter 109: The Open Door

The ray of the Genesis stopped powering the shield in the sky and so the formation scattered everywhere. The Holy Knights, Elizabeth, Candace, and Midgard, all raised their heads to the open cage above them.

Dora turned his back and glanced behind.

"Elizabeth?"

The young woman shifted her gaze to him.

"You wanted to know why I healed you?"

Elizabeth grimaced, her eyes shaking.

"Why you little..."

She suddenly flinched and looked up upon hearing the most disturbing and blood-chilling noise possible.

"Everyone..." Agharita murmured.

They stood on guard, holding their weapons tightly.

In the town, the guild emissaries looked up in disbelief.

In unison, the guild members, the Holy Knights and Elizabeth moved into attack position, when they heard the most feared noise among the emissaries outside a Rift: the death howl of thousands of monsters released.

The Rift was open.

"Everyone, let’s go! They’re coming!" Peters shouted.

The purple sky suddenly grew darker and the screams became more audible.

Dora spread his arms, rolling his eyes, ready to embrace the impending apocalypse.

"The feast begins!"

Millions of creatures with different appearances rained from the sky.

Gargoyles, flying reptiles, giant insects, demon eels, wyverns... every kind of monster, flying or not, fell from the Rift like a cloud of horror.

The Holy Knights rushed forward and each charged an attack.

Midgard looked at Dora in confusion.

The young boy, with a smile, glanced at her.

"So? You won’t cooperate?"

The girl frowned, frustrated, but a blinding light brought her back to reality.

Hundreds of monsters fell, their corpses reduced to pieces.

Dora looked in astonishment at Elizabeth who landed several meters behind him.

Her sword drawn, she turned to Dora.

"So no one will die if Midgard doesn’t sync? And Dora is still there? Good for me."

She held her sword straight and suddenly, the city was crossed by waves of energy.

"Midgard, whatever happens, don’t do it!"

She jumped and joined the Holy Knights in the sky.

Bursts of light, explosions, showers of weapons, and attacks, in an instant, the sky was transformed into a gigantic fireworks display.

Everywhere the eyes could see, a group of monsters, then an explosion, followed by corpses.

Angelo used his power as a control tower and teleported everyone into the sky, focusing on large groups of monsters.

Swords, spears, and magic, of all sizes and colors, tore through the sky.

A blinding light covered everything steadily, and a void replaced a large group of monsters, it was the signature of Elizabeth, the strongest woman in the kingdom, among normal emissaries that is.

Despite this show of force, the swarm of monsters was so gigantic that they reached the ground, destroying buildings and going on a rampage.

"Graveyard"

One of the guild members, a necromancer, summoned black smoke spreading across the city.

Monsters were rushing everywhere, only to be crushed by the jaws of dead monsters or pierced by the weapon of a rising skeleton army.

They were falling everywhere, crashing into buildings, shops, and immediately destroyed by the guild members.

The sky was fireworks, the ground was a battlefield, and the air was filled with burning particles.

In this theater, the sky showed its emotion, in the form of a shower of soul stones, like tears of joy.

Dora stared at the scene in silence, his smile turning into a grimace, but not because the attack force was stronger than expected.

"So much..."

His eyes trembled, and his smile widened.

He wished to see Midgard follow his will, but as a sin of greed, this shower of soul stones became like honey to ants.

Candace noticed he was no longer paying attention to them and grabbed Midgard’s arm.

"Hurry up!" She whispered as she ran away with the confused snake woman.

"Really?"

A red beam struck Candace’s legs and an explosion sent them flying.

She crashed further away from Midgard, her left leg blown off, while the Player could land on her feet.

Shocked, she rushed over and applied healing magic on the dean.

Dora snapped his fingers and Candace flew away in a bubble.

Midgard groaned and stood up, facing Dora.

"I can understand why you wouldn’t want to sync our souls, but seriously, running away? Have you forgotten that we share the same power?"

"Release her!"

"... Well, well, well, seems like we could have an agreement after all."

Midgard clenched her fists, trembling a little.

"D... Don’t! Please!" Candace shouted from her bubble, applying healing on herself. "Please, t-think about everyone, everything will be for nothin... if you synchronize!"

Dora tilted his head and smirked.

"Oh? Oh, no, no, don’t worry, I wasn’t referring to that. I said once that I wouldn’t use blackmail and I’m planning to respect my words. You will synchronize on your own will. .."

He turned his back and leaned forward.

"...If you want to save Dora."

He jumped in the direction of the Holy Knights.

He was getting closer, rushing like a bullet, and soon reached the warzone.

"Left, rights, soul stones everywhere, soul stones for everyone, soul stones for me!"

The space was distorted in a large area and turned yellow before cracking.

Thousands of monster body parts rained on the city.

Everyone looked in anguish at Dora, floating in space, surrounded by thousands of soul stones.

At this moment, they knew that it was a catastrophe for them, they knew that they had lost every hope at that moment.

And because they were desperate, this baleful sight brought warmth to their chest.

There was hope.

The soul stones vanished instantly in bright light, and Dora continued her sinister work.

He rose higher and stretched his hand toward the sky.

He then clenched his fist and another thousand monsters were compressed in a single space and crushed.

He rose even higher, every time gathering a bigger number of monsters and destroying them in a massive attack.

The Holy Knight watched with concern, on the ground, cries of joy attracted their attention.

The guild members, seeing the miracle of this young boy, cheered louder and meticulously proceeded to exterminate the monsters on the ground.

"They don’t even realize that this thing is not on our side." A Holy Knight said, annoyed.

"This is Hell, they’re just ready to cling to any ray of light." Peters sighed.

A heavy object fell next to them.

They quickly put themselves on guard and opened their eyes widely as Elizabeth stood over the body of a winged demon.

"Peters."

The Holy Knight, stunned, didn’t make a sound and just nodded.

Elizabeth, with a satisfied smile, pointed her sword toward him.

"Be my ride."
