Chapter 44 She Cares...

"Wha-what?"

These were the last words to come out of Luca's mouth.

He too was lying on the floor, next to the man he'd just killed.

The dark clouds swayed beneath Lucas. The last thing he saw before the darkness completely engulfed his body was Kali's wide, innocent face.

Kali gasped as she saw Lucas' face turn to stone, "what should I do?" She began to breathe harder as her heart beat faster and faster.

'Lucas... Please... Wake up...!' She tried to poke him with her broken claw.

Nails popped out and twisted inside them, with each movement Kali felt a dull pain, but that didn't stop her from trying to see if Lucas was still alive, 'please, wake up you asshole!' her inner voice broke.

Her lips quivered as a thousand emotions danced in her tear-filled eyes. It was waiting to be released.

"Wake up, you asshole..." She spoke aloud, not realising that she'd changed back into a human.

[Goodbye]

The system appeared and disappeared in seconds.

"You idiot, wake up!" Kali folded a fist and slammed it into his stomach.

Her soft and gentle hands felt like tickling Lucas' body, he felt nothing at all, he couldn't even flinch from her blows.

She could no longer bear the pain of seeing Lucas lying there with a pale face, she fell to the floor in a dishevelled heap as her grief was released in a flood of uncontrollable tears, "you've to wake up, don't leave me here alone! A heart-wrenching sob tugged at her chest.

"What happened here?"

Kali heard Haya's voice coming from the bushes. ƒ𝑟𝙚e𝔀𝗲𝒃n𝒐𝘷𝗲Ɩ.c𝗼𝚖

"Oh dear..." Xina added, covering her mouth with her hand.

The view was fantastic for her.

? Both Lucas and Kali were lying on the floor next to the man, who was wearing a long black robe. The Peri spirit looked as alive as ever, and many white shards of glass lay on the dark blue, ruined grass.

"Kali, why are you human again?" Haya began to walk slowly in her direction.

This was surprising even to her, for during all this agony she'd not even noticed that she was in her human form.

She took her hand from Lucas' body and looked at both her palms, while still sobbing and breathing in air, she spoke, "Ha- Haya, is Lu-Lucas going to die?" Her voice trembled as her body still shook with pain.

"No, of course not, but tell me, what happened here?" Haya spoke softly, trying to calm her.

"I was looking for the black dragon and this man attacked me, then Lucas appeared out of nowhere and killed him...Wweeh ahh." She gasped, and felt cold tears running down her face.

"Lucas killed him?" Haya took a step back.

This was something shocking to him, but he'd to keep a serious face in front of Kali. Now that he saw her in her human form again, and especially in this state, he didn't want to cause her any more pain.

"Myroka ...hm ..." Xina pushed the body of the dead man with her bare foot at

She came from the land of the elves, and they never wore shoes or sandals. Their feet were protected by magic, so that even single glasses or sharp objects that got under their feet couldn't even scratch them

"Xina, be careful, he might still be alive." Haya glared at her.

"No, he's actually dead this time." She confirmed.

Another blow to Haya, for Myroka cannot die so easily, but if they do, they never come back. Lucas killed one of them, making their situation quite easier. They'll be able to move without Izek's followers chasing them, but that wouldn't stop the elf general from following them.

"Kali, I know this is very selfish, but we've to keep moving, the person who followed us out of Xina's town is following us, if we don't leave now he'll catch up with us." He leaned closer to her.

Kali's skin was soft and she was very welcoming, so a hug at that moment was something she really needed, "Don't worry, Lucas is the protogonist of this story, he won't die so easily." He added as he put his arms around Kali's waist.

"Ahem." Xina interrupted, "let us go."

One thing was clear to Haya: Xina was right, even if she was sometimes rude, she said things that made sense.

"Activate system." Haya spoke into the air.

[System activated.]

It appeared without any stirring.

"Give me two healing tablets." Haya commanded the system.

[Two pills of healing]

[Done]

Dark brown little things fell from the sky onto Haya's palm.

[Goodbye]

The system disappeared again into the thin air.

"Here, if you take this, you'll feel better."

Haya held out his arm with dark looking capsules in his hand, "is this poison?" Kali doubted his generosity.

"No, it will help you and Lucas heal faster and restore your stamina." Haya closed his eyes, then opened them again.

Kali was in a panic, the best thing would be to knock her down, take her body and start moving, but then he could not forgive himself for doing that to a girl who knew nothing about this world.

He gave them his own pills, they were his and he did not have many left.

"Well, thank you then." Kali carefully took one of the pills and placed it on her tongue.

After all the crying, she found it hard to swallow it, so she forced her throat to move three times until the pill finally landed in her body.

"Good, now help me open Lucas' mouth." Haya wasted no time and was already standing in front of his dead-looking body.

Gently he placed one of his hands on Lucas' chin and with the other he opened his mouth, "wake up quickly." He pressed the pill to his throat and took both hands away.

"Whew." He wiped Lucas' saliva on his clothes, "now we just have to wait." He looked to see how Kali was doing now.

**

Lucas sat up bolt upright and found himself in a completely unfamiliar place. Everything in the room was bathed in white, from the walls to the blankets on his legs. The only splashes of colour were an abstract painting on one wall and the dark T-shirt of the man standing in front of him.

"So at last we meet face to face." Izek lowered his head.
