Chapter 28

Chapter 28

The Gu Family went bankrupt. Gu's father took his wife and children abroad, leaving only Gu Yuming behind, a plot that Jiang Yan was aware of.

Having an evil second female lead help the male protagonist, Jiang Yan found it laughable from the start, especially since the system wasn't by her side. If it weren't for the stepmother being so cruel to little Gu Yuming, she wouldn't have done anything.

But now, she had watched over Gu Yuming as he grew up. She knew that beneath his hostile exterior was a wounded heart.

It seemed that heart was about to heal.

Jiang Yan wondered if Gu Yuming could accept this news?

She didn't get an answer. By the time she rushed back, the Gu Family's villa had been sealed with a notice. Inside the villa, it was spotlessly clean with not a single person in sight.

It seemed that while Gu Yuming was at school, his family had already packed up their belongings, dismissed the servants, and fled with their valuables and jewelry, forgetting only—Gu Yuming.

"Sister, why are you in such a hurry to come back today?" Ji Chu asked knowingly, probing.

"Something happened to Gu Yuming's family, and I wanted to see how he's doing, but he's not around," Jiang Yan explained casually, her gaze still fixed on the Gu Family's direction.

Ji Chu didn't say a word, secretly guessing if her usually calm eyes were now filled with concern and worry.

That night, the lights at the Yu Family's villa stayed on all night, with a servant guarding the entrance.

On the balcony of the Gu Family's sealed villa, a lone figure sat. His silhouette was solitary and gloomy, filled with resentment and rage, as if soaked in darkness.

He had thought that this was as bad as it could get. On his way back, he had even contemplated getting a job to pay off their debts. But no, his own father, along with his stepmother and stepbrother, had already fled without a trace.

He suddenly realized that he had never been welcomed, whether it was at birth or in existence. He suddenly resented his mother buried in the cemetery. So, did you give birth to me just to abandon me?

The intense gloomy emotions took root within him, yet his eyes still held a glimmer of light—from the lamps of the Yu Family's villa.

The Yu Family always turned off their lights promptly. But on this night, the villa remained brightly lit.

Perhaps, if he just walked over there, the servants would give him food and a place to stay... But Gu Yuming would never let anyone pity him.

Until dawn broke and the day brightened, the lights at the Yu Family's villa finally went out.

After that day, it was as if Gu Yuming had vanished from the world.

Jiang Yan knew that he had to walk out of this on his own, so she withdrew her unnecessary concern.

During this period, Ji Chu was really annoying, forcing Jiang Yan to study math.

Math was something that Jiang Yan couldn't write more than two problems before wanting to explode. She would throw down her pen, tilt her head back, and glare with her clear eyes, angrily saying, "I'm not doing it anymore!"

"No. Sister, your math is too poor, and it's always dragging down your score. If not for math holding you back, you'd be in the top five," Ji Chu reasoned with her, unrelenting.

"I don't care about grades!"

"I do, Sister. You can't stop writing, hurry up..."

"Who are you to me to manage me? Do I need you to manage me?" Jiang Yan was really annoyed, and the harsh words slipped out of her mouth.

Ji Chu froze, seeming hurt, his charming almond-shaped eyes also dimming. No longer arguing, he quietly said, "Sorry, I interfered too much..."

Afraid she had touched a sore spot. Without parents, living under someone else's roof... Jiang Yan fell silent for a moment, then raised her beautiful eyes and said, "I'll do it. Don't say anything else, I'll do it."

Ji Chu let out a nasal "Mmm" sound. As he turned away, two sharp little fangs peeked out. He knew his sister was soft on the inside, not on the outside.

Parents had never been his wound. Born into a cold-blooded family, his parents were just one branch, turning into cold-blooded creatures themselves early on to fit in.

Although he was only five years old when he came to the Yu Family. But by then, he had almost experienced all the evils of this world, including his parents' car accident, which had been deliberately planned by others.

That was his luckiest moment because, being so small and strapped in a safety seat, he was unharmed. Then he met Yu's Father, and his people sent him to the Yu Family's villa.

Speaking of which, that was the first time in his life he had seen so many smiles, with the butler and servants all smiling warmly at that little princess-like girl. So, he immediately wanted to stay there. In fact, he got his wish.

Ji Chu took sweet milk and a plate of sliced fruit from the maid. Seeing Jiang Yan frowning, looking pitiful and cute as she wrote the problems impatiently.

Of course, he wouldn't say such things out loud. In his sister's eyes, he was a good brother, pure and fond of studying.

In fact, he was just afraid that when classes were divided, the two of them wouldn't be together. Because even if he chose the science class, there would still be some gap in their grades.

If worst came to worst, he could intentionally get a few problems wrong during the class division exam. Ji Chu thought worriedly.

The name Gu Yuming reappeared only after the classes had been divided.
