Chapter 264 - 261-Coming to Settle the Score!
Blazing Knight Commander stood stiffly, anxiety written all over his face.
He still wasn't sure whether the Thunder Calamity might reappear the moment Velen left.
But Velen simply gave him a calm, reassuring smile.
"Don't worry. This all started because of me. You were just caught in the crossfire. If your lives are ever in danger because of it, I'll take care of it."
Blazing was stunned for a moment—then slowly nodded.
He didn't know whether to be moved or more terrified.
Then Velen turned toward all four Knight Commanders.
"Thank you all for your help today. I'll take my leave now. Until next time!"
As soon as he finished speaking, he activated his Spatial Portal and vanished into the shimmering portal, disappearing from their view.
BOOM!
Right after Velen left, the skies roared.
Thunder rolled like a war drum—and the Thunder Calamity reappeared!
The air was saturated with the suffocating presence of a fifth-tier thunder tide.
"Not good!"
All four commanders' faces changed.
…
A long while later…
"Phew... looks like it didn't threaten our lives this time," one of them muttered. "It just took advantage of the gap after His Highness left."
"But Blazing—you're the one who provoked the will of the universe! Why did we have to suffer along with you?!"
"My hair's literally fried! What did I ever do to deserve this?!"
The three commanders were slumped to the ground, drained of all magical energy, their robes scorched and their hair standing on end like they'd been struck by lightning.
Blazing Knight Commander was equally exhausted. He barely had the strength to sit upright.
And yet, at their complaints, he exploded.
"Can you guys say something useful for once?! Just remember this—next time His Highness Velen breaks through, we stay as far away as possible!"
"No hesitation. If we so much as hear he's preparing for a breakthrough, run. Immediately."
At the base of Fortress Mountain…
"Hmm?"
"Steven, Jerry—who are those two over there?"
Velen, having just exited the Spatial Portal, pointed at two men in the distance and asked curiously.
Before Steven or Jerry could answer, a young man standing near the gate suddenly pointed at Velen in shock.
"It's YOU!"
"I remember you! Back when Fortress was recruiting new members, I was standing right next to you!"
His expression changed drastically when he noticed the Fortress uniform on Velen's body.
"You—after we left that day… did you really hand over ten thousand low-grade mana crystals and join Fortress?"
"Oh?"
"Is that true?" asked the elder beside the young man, glancing over at Velen with a thoughtful look.
Someone actually gave up ten thousand low-grade mana crystals just to join Fortress?
Is there something special about this place I'm not aware of?
Just then, Jerry stepped forward and quickly explained, "Your Highness, they just arrived and said they wanted to pay a visit to Lady Anastasia. Kevin and I were just about to decide who should go inform her."
"I'll go notify the mentor," Velen nodded.
Then he turned politely to the visitors.
"I'm not sure why you've come to our Fortress, but since you're here, you're our guests. Please wait here for a moment."
And with that, Velen turned and walked away.
"Hah, that kid found himself a mentor with Supreme Rank Level 9 strength, huh? Looks like he's come to show off!"
"Well, if he's here to flaunt, then I have no choice but to entertain him properly."
"Let's just hope he and his mentor don't collapse from fear the moment they step inside Fortress!"
As Velen made his way uphill, a faint grin tugged at the corners of his lips.
How many luxury points can I farm from these two, I wonder?
"Mentor, what are we doing just standing here?"
"Weren't you going to help me reclaim my pride?"
"Why are we still waiting around? Let's just head straight in!"
The young man couldn't help but grumble as Velen left.
But the old man didn't reply immediately. Instead, his eyes narrowed.
"Something's off."
"Very off."
"What do you mean 'off'? Fortress looked like this when I left, and it still looks the same now."
"No… it's different from what you described before."
Without further explanation, the elder stepped forward and approached Kevin and Jerry.
"You two," he said calmly, "this Fortress… the entry condition is strange, yes—but with your strength, handing over ten thousand low-grade mana crystals shouldn't be difficult."
"Difficult?" Jerry scoffed, grinning. "Try one hundred thousand. Even one million low-grade mana crystals would be easy."
Having already profited handsomely by "selling" his mentor, Jerry didn't mind bragging a little.
"Then why haven't you joined Fortress yourselves?" the elder asked. "Instead, you've built a place to stay outside its gates."
"If entry only required ten thousand low-grade mana crystals?"
"Hahahahaha!"
Kevin and Jerry looked at each other and burst out laughing.
The old man blinked in confusion.
What was so funny?
Jerry shook his head. "Joining Fortress used to be easier… but now?"
He sighed.
"Even if you offered one hundred million high-grade mana crystals, you still might not be allowed in."
"…Excuse me?" the elder asked, completely baffled.
"How do you join Fortress, then?"
"We don't dream of becoming Fortress members," Jerry said seriously. "Even our mentors are just servants here. What right do we have?"
"Sure, we may be the top two prodigies on the Rising Magi Rankings… but just becoming servants here is already a privilege."
"All we can do now is wait outside and hope for another chance."
"Hahahaha!"
The young man suddenly broke into uncontrollable laughter.
"You two? Top of the Rising Magi Rankings?! Don't make me—"
SMACK!

Before he could finish, the elder turned and slapped him hard across the face, stunning him.
"Mentor?!"
"Why'd you hit me?! They're the ones spouting nonsense!"
SMACK! SMACK!
The elder struck him again, this time with both hands.
"But mentor! I—"
SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!
Three more slaps silenced the youth entirely.
Now dazed and clutching his red cheeks, he looked completely bewildered.
"My apologies," the elder said, turning back to Kevin and Jerry with a respectful nod. "My mentee's temperament is lacking. Please forgive him."
"But I must ask… you said you were the first and second on the Rising Magi Rankings. Then… who is your mentor?"
Before the question could be answered—
BOOM!
Suddenly, two terrifying auras descended from the sky, as suffocating pressure exploded like a storm.
Two men dressed in servant uniforms, their lower bodies wrapped in blankets, dropped from the sky and landed directly in front of them.
An overwhelming pressure!
Both the elder and his student recoiled in horror.
Was this an ambush?
"Mentor!"
Kevin and Jerry immediately bowed with utmost respect.
The elder stared, his heart nearly stopping.
Servant uniforms?!
This terrifying presence…
These two men… are Kevin and Jerry's mentors?!
