Chapter 155: crunch

Chapter 155: crunch

Kael woke in the dim morning light, his body sandwiched between Freya and Rhea, their limbs tangled over him like a living heavy blanket.

Freya’s platinum-cyan hair spilled across his chest, her breath cool against his skin, while Rhea’s crimson locks tickled his neck, her warmth radiating like a furnace.

Their legs intertwined with his, pinning him to the bed.

He lay still, his hazel eyes flickering with focus as he activated his empathetic resonance, a subtle pulse of his power soothing their minds, keeping them in a deep sleep.

He needed to slip away unnoticed—if either of them wakes up, then he wouldn’t get to do what he was about to do now.

Carefully, he disentangled himself, easing Freya’s arm off his shoulder and sliding out from under Rhea’s leg, his movements silent.

He grabbed his jeans and t-shirt from the floor, dressing quickly, his stun baton clipped to his belt.

Kael stepped into the hallway, and knocked softly on Lila’s door before opening it.

Lila was already awake, sitting on her bed in her loose gown, her glasses slightly askew, her black curly hair framing her anxious face.

The power-suppressing collar gleamed faintly around her neck. Kael gestured for her to follow, leading her to the hallway, far enough from Tila’s room to avoid being overheard.

"Lila," he said, his voice low but persuasive, his hazel eyes locking onto hers, "I need you to join Freya and Rhea on the mission today. Be a temporary member of REAPER while I work with Tila."

Lila’s eyes widened, her hands fidgeting, but Kael pressed on, his tone steady. "It’s the best way to keep things smooth. You’ll see how we operate, and it’ll help convince you I can help Tila." He leaned closer, his grin reassuring. "You’ll be safe with them. They’re tough, but they’ve got your back."

Lila hesitated, her glasses catching the hallway’s dim light, then nodded, her voice soft. "Okay. I’ll do it."

Kael’s grin widened, a flicker of relief in his hazel eyes.

"Good. Head back to your room, get ready. I’ll handle the rest." As Lila retreated, Kael’s mind churned.

Sending Lila on the mission was strategic—her absence would keep her from interfering with Tila’s rehab, especially in a moment of vulnerability where she might spill the truth about the entire trap.

Lila’s love for her sister was a potential crack in their armor. Lila’s absence also gave Kael a psychological edge with Tila, letting him use her sister’s silence as leverage.

It was a win-win: Lila would bond with the team, and Kael could focus on Tila without distractions.

The only hurdle was Freya and Rhea, who’d likely balk at Lila’s inclusion.

He’d spring it on them at the last moment, leaving no room for debate.

Phase 1, Done and dusted.

This was Kael’s preferred environment—alone, one-on-one, where his methods, sometimes skirting the edge of propriety, went unseen. No third set of eyes to judge, no questions to answer.

Just him and his target, his focus razor-sharp.

Now,

He was ready.

He grabbed a pair of handcuffs from a locked drawer, their cold metal glinting in his hand—essential for handling Tila.

After a moment’s thought, he grabbed a second pair, his hazel eyes narrowing. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

With Tila, you could never be too prepared.

He approached her door, the omnious silence suggesting she was still asleep.

knock knock

He knocked on her door firmly, the sound sharp in the quiet hallway.

Instantly, the door erupted with banging, Tila’s voice roaring, "Open the fucking door, you bastard!" Her curses spilled out, a torrent of rage—"I’ll tear your spine out! Let me out, or you’re dead!"—each word laced with unhinged venom.

She never gets tired.

Kael sighed and turned the knob, bracing himself.

The door flew open, and Tila pounced, her sharp features twisted with fury, her black hair wild, her eyes blazing.

"You’re dead, Kael!" she screamed, lunging for him, the power-suppressing collar useless against her raw physicality.

Kael was faster, his stun baton crackling as he zapped her mid-air, the electric surge sending her convulsing to the floor.

He dragged her back into her room, her body limp but twitching, and swiftly handcuffed her wrists to the bed’s metal frame, then used the second pair to secure her ankles to the bed’s leg.

She was forced to kneel, facing him, her dazed eyes struggling to focus, her collar glinting under the room’s single bulb.

Kael stepped out briefly, returning with a water bottle and a bag of chips.

Tila had recovered from her stunned daze, her glare venomous, her voice a renewed storm of curses.

"Unlock these fucking shackles, Kael! You’re making a huge mistake! You’re pissing me off, and I’ll gut you! I’ll peel your skin, snap your bones, feed you your own fucking heart!" Her threats grew more vivid, each one a twisted promise of violence, her body straining against the cuffs, the metal creaking.

Crunch.

Kael popped a chip into his mouth, chewing slowly, his hazel eyes locked on hers, unfazed.

The crisp sound cut through her tirade, but she didn’t stop, her voice rising—"I’ll carve your eyes out! You’ll choke on your own blood!"

Crunch.

Another chip, louder, his expression neutral, almost bored.

Tila’s eyes narrowed, her rage spiking at his nonchalance. "Stop eating those fucking chips, or I’ll shove them up your ass and light you on fire!" she screamed, her voice hoarse, her threats growing more unhinged—"I’ll crush your skull and use it as a bowl!"

Crunch.

Kael ate another chip, his movements deliberate, his hazel eyes glinting with subtle provocation.

Tila’s yelling intensified, her focus zeroing in on the bag, her fury now laced with irritation. "You think you’re funny? I’ll rip your tongue out and make you eat those chips raw!"

Kael reached into the bag, pulling out a large, perfectly round chip, holding it up like a prize.

He dragged it toward his mouth in exaggerated slow motion, his hazel eyes never leaving hers, the room’s tension thickening.

Tila’s voice slowed, her curses faltering as she fixated on the chip, her eyes tracking its glacial journey.

The atmosphere was electric, suspense coiling as Kael’s lips parted, the chip hovering just shy of his mouth.

Her breathing hitched, her glare intense, as she wondered whether the chip would even fit in his mouth..
