Chapter 18: Level Jump!

While others were staring at the splattered human/monster corpse, Qin Hua was staring at something else. Several notifications had popped up in front of her one after the other.

<Ding. 1 Level 10 Mana Zombie killed>

<5000 Experience points have been rewarded>

<Congratulations. Special quest has been completed>

<500 Experience points have been rewarded>

<Congratulations. You have leveled up>

<Congratulations. You have leveled up>

<Congratulations. You have leveled up>

<Congratulations. You have leveled up>

[I leveled up so many times???]

Qin Hua's tongue rolled out in shock after seeing these new updates. She couldn't believe her eyes.

[How did this happen?] She panted.

She knew that she had only dealt a small amount of damage but she got so many experience points in return? That didn't seem fair?

[Nya ha ha. Who cares? At least now, I am finally getting lucky!] The puppy grinned in satisfaction.

As she was about to flip open and check her new status, her gaze darted towards the young man standing beside her. He was the one who had actually taken down the mana zombie single-handedly.

Qin Hua wondered if this was some kind of berserk ability that Su Yan had within him, but that didn't explain the scales covering his body.

Did he simply have a monstrous strength or was he becoming a monster himself?

Lu Chen was also awestruck with what had transpired in front of him. His friend had just stepped up and protected everyone in the room.

"This is amazing bro!" He shouted, stepping closer to take a look at the thing lying on the ground. "You also have an ability just like me!"

"Why was your last punch glowing and what are all these scales?"

Unlike Lu Chen who seemed very energetic and had a million questions, Su Yan was a bit shaken up.

He weakly collapsed on the floor, folding his legs, and cupping his head in his hands.

His entire body was shivering. He didn't know if this was fear or anxiety or perhaps even a sort of excitement.

"What is happening? What the hell is happening around us?"

"I just… I just raised my hands to block her clawing, and everything happened so quickly…"

"As if it was simply a reflex reaction."

Su Yan mumbled incoherently, trying to understand bits and pieces of what just happened. He seemed extremely rattled.

Qin Hua couldn't help but wiggle closer to him and she nuzzled her head against him.

Su Yan tilted his head, looking at the innocent white puppy rubbing against him. He felt her soft body and smiled weakly.

Lu Chen's excited bubbly face greeted him as well.

The world they lived in no longer made sense but as long as these two were with him, it wasn't that bad either.

Su Yan's metallic scales had by now morphed back to normal human skin. He tried to activate it or bring it out again but just like Lu Chen, he also couldn't control it.

He clenched his fist and slowly stood up. "We need to learn how to control these abilities if we are ever going to survive in this new world."

Lu Chen nodded. Though he always tended to joke around, the gravity of this situation hadn't escaped him.

"Let's first get the girls back up. They fell unconscious with Sister Min's... Sorry, I mean the monster's scream." Su Yan said, picking up Xu Meilin.

Lu Chen picked up Alex and together, they brought the girls to the living room. Little White and the cat quietly followed behind them.

"Is there any water around?" Su Yan asked.

Lu Chen quickly ran to the kitchen, filled a glass with tap water to the brim, and brought it to Su Yan. The duo then sprinkled some water over the girls' faces, and soon they regained consciousness.

Alex was the first one to open her eyes. "What happened to Sister Min, no what happened to the monster?" She panicked.

"Relax. Relax. Everything is taken care of now."

Alex let out a loud breath of relief and asked again. "Just what exactly happened? How are we… still alive?"

"He He He. My good brother Su Yan here also has an awesome ability just like me and protected all of us in the nick of time by killing the monster." Lu Chen bragged.

He described the details of the fight and Alex's eyes immediately lit up. She was happy to be alive but… she was also slightly feeling awkward.

Alex was a very independent and self-sufficient woman by nature. So it didn't sit well with her that she was currently so dependent on these two random youngsters.

As a grown-ass woman, she felt a bit insecure to rely on others so much. There was absolutely no guarantee that these two random guys would continue to help her get through this.

At the least, she had to do her part and make sure that her presence was a valuable addition to this makeshift team.

"So what if I don't have any abilities like these people? I can also strengthen myself." She clutched the edge of her shirt and silently resolved to herself.

As blankly gazed at the two boys in front of her, Xu Meilin had also opened her eyes. She was currently resting in Su Yan's arms and Lu Chen was also looking at her with great concern.

Xu Meilin beamed, revealing a big wide smile. It felt like a dream to be doted on by her idol crushes.

She might be floating in a dreamland, but Su Yan was more concerned about other things. "Are you okay? Can you move your body?" He asked.

He wanted to make sure that the girl could walk around and wasn't going to be a burden to their escape plan.

"If you are the one taking care of me, then I will be more than okay." She shyly replied. She wanted to praise Su Yan for his bravery.

Hearing her flattering reply, both Su Yan and Lu Chen awkwardly scratched their heads, while Alex facepalmed loudly.

Clearly, this girl was more interested in forming a relationship with the guys rather than worrying about what really happened to the monster in the bedroom.

Alex scoffed and stepped away from there. She busied herself and started doing some light stretching and workout to get more into shape.
