Chapter 604
Chapter 604 - 604
After issuing their orders, the American high command began closely monitoring the white-clad mutant using satellites and surveillance footage from within the city, eager to see what he would do next.
Under their watch, the white-clad figure flew toward the center of the city and hovered over a luxurious villa—complete with a pool and other lavish amenities.
At the same time, the explosions from the earlier aerial combat had caught the attention of civilians below.
With the deafening noise echoing through the city, it was impossible not to notice.
Very quickly, the people realized—the mutant making headlines across every major news station had come to their city.
Panic and confusion rippled through the population.
Many looked up and saw the white figure floating above a villa.
"What is he doing here?"
Whispers filled the streets.
Just then, under everyone's watchful eyes, four people emerged from the lavish mansion.
Leading the group was a man in his forties, dressed in a sleek black suit—Sebastian Shaw, the Black King, a mutant with the power of energy absorption.
Next to him stood a woman dressed in all white, her wavy platinum hair cascading down—Emma Frost, the White Queen, with psychic abilities and a secondary mutation allowing her to transform her body into diamond.
The other two: one was red-skinned and devilish in appearance—Azazel, the Red Devil, known for his teleportation abilities. The last was a man in his thirties capable of manipulating storms—Riptide.
All of them lifted their heads to gaze at the white figure hovering above.
Emma, Azazel, and Riptide wore wary expressions, clearly on alert.
But Shaw?
He appeared utterly relaxed, smiling as he calmly observed the powerful mutant making waves across the nation.
From afar—
Civilians and American officials watching the feed furrowed their brows.
"More mutants?"
Azazel's inhuman appearance made it clear. There was no hiding what he was.
So what was the white mutant doing here?
While everyone speculated, Syd, hovering in the sky, also turned his attention toward Shaw and the others.
More precisely—his focus zeroed in on Sebastian Shaw.
"Level four, possibly pseudo-level five energy absorption... Let's see what secrets your body holds."
Without anyone noticing, a wave of psychic energy flowed from Syd and enveloped Shaw.
Simultaneously, detection spells from Kamar-Taj and Asgard formed in his mind.
Mystic runes flickered through Syd's eyes as he began probing Shaw's body.
Within seconds, the data of Shaw's X-gene unfolded in his mind.
He rapidly absorbed the information on Shaw's energy absorption ability.
Before long, he had parsed through much of it.
"This part can refine my own absorption... This one is useless..."
Quickly, Syd discarded the irrelevant data and retained the beneficial portions.
The more he analyzed, the more satisfied he became.
Sebastian Shaw's X-gene, despite its flaws, held some value.
Most importantly, by integrating this refined genetic data using his chaos magic and creative powers, Syd could enhance his own energy absorption ability.
This meant faster collection of energy points—and an accelerated progression toward mimicking the divine.
He could hardly wait to upgrade himself and push the pace of his divine unlocking process.
But—there were still loose ends to tie up.
Syd glanced at the circling fighter jets above the city, and at Shaw's group below.
Just as he was about to speak, Sebastian Shaw beat him to it.
With a smile, Shaw looked up and said, "So, you're the one bold enough to challenge the military?"
"Are you here for me? Ready to join my ranks?"
After a moment's thought, Shaw nodded and commented confidently, "You've got potential. If you become my subordinate, I'll help you deal with the military."
He then cast a dismissive glance at the fighter jets in the sky, his expression full of contempt.
Emma and the others beside him remained composed, clearly thinking the same.
Truthfully, with his pseudo-level five energy absorption ability, Shaw was nearly invincible.
Whether bullets, missiles, or heat shockwaves—he could absorb them all and redirect them.
If his ability were completely passive, he'd be nearly unkillable short of continuous nuclear bombardment.
Unfortunately, Shaw's power was subject to his own will—and therein lay his fatal flaw.
Without his helmet to block psychic interference, he could be mind-controlled, and that's exactly what happened in the future—controlled by Xavier, and then killed by Magneto with a coin through the head.
A shameful and anticlimactic death, one that never even let him use his power to fight back.
While Syd pondered this, a new sound came from the sky.
Everyone turned—and saw a black jet approaching at high speed.
The X-Jet.
Inside, Erik—Magneto—immediately saw Sebastian Shaw and a flash of hatred surged in his eyes.
It was Shaw who had caused his mother's death. Erik wanted nothing more than to grind him to dust.
Charles, noticing his change, quickly placed a hand on Erik's shoulder. "Stay calm, Erik!"
Charles knew full well how powerful Shaw was. Even together, he and Erik likely wouldn't stand a chance.
With Shaw wearing his helmet to block mental attacks, Charles' psychic powers were useless. And Erik alone? Not enough.
Erik gritted his teeth but nodded, holding back—for now.
Outside the villa—
Shaw gave the incoming X-Jet a cursory glance, unimpressed. His attention returned to the white-clad figure above.
"Well? Have you made your decision?" Shaw asked with a smile.
His tone was full of confidence.
In his mind, if the white-clad mutant wanted to survive, he'd have no reason to refuse his offer.
Emma and the others smiled as well—they were sure how this would go.
But just then, Syd looked down at them and said coolly:
"I refuse."
The moment the words fell, Shaw, Emma, and the others froze—staring up in disbelief, stunned by what they'd just heard.
