Chapter Twenty Three: Cultivating the Noble Temperament (Part I)

“Task: Cultivating the Aristocratic Temperament, first side mission: Spend 20 million in this plaza within two hours, and what you purchase has to be usable for yourself. Task reward: 200 points, ownership of the purchased items. Task Failure: Unknown punishment.” When Zero read the task out loud, Finn Lewis was completely dumbstruck.

“Damn it! Are you sure we are cultivating a noble demeanor and not a nouveau riche temperament?” Finn asked in disbelief.

“One hour, fifty-nine minutes.” Zero’s voice remained steady, utterly ignoring Finn’s objections.

Well, damn it all! Finn simply flipped a middle finger and dashed towards the Bund shopping center up ahead. He finally understood why Zero wanted him to come here. It was inevitable because this was where all the luxury goods in Celeston City were located. There was also a specialty store owned by George Emadia Jackson, who would come and provide personal tailoring services for clients here from time to time. Other stores didn’t offer such exclusive treatments.

In reality, this place wasn’t that different from any other large shopping complex. The only thing that stood out was that many of the stores were renowned luxury brand boutiques from around the world. Once he entered the complex, Finn suddenly became a little disoriented. Although there were a lot of stores, he had no idea where to start.

‘Glancing’ around, he discerned that the stores on the first floor generally sold cosmetics and such. Spotting a security guard nearby, he figured he could ask for some directions. “Excuse me,” he asked. “Do you know where I can find a shop that sells watches?”

“Watches? What brand are you looking for? The watches here are quite pricey.” The security guard sized Finn up before replying.

“Breguet.” Finn selected the most expensive brand he could recall.

“Uh…” The guard choked a little, looking at Finn with a weird expression. Finn, somewhat annoyed, said: “Look, bro, I’m in a hurry. Don’t bother about whether I can afford it or not. Is it a crime to look around?”

“Alright then. It’s on the second floor, on the left-hand side. Walk further inside and you’ll see its specialty store.” The security guard explained after Finn’s retort. He wasn’t surprised because many people who came here couldn’t afford the goods. After all, ordinary people couldn’t afford watches that cost millions.

Considering Finn’s current attire, the total value of his outfit probably didn’t even exceed 500 bucks. Being security in a mall like this, one should have a keen eye for these things. They were exposed to luxury goods daily, so they could more or less guess the price of customers’ outfits.

Finn paid no attention to the guard’s wary gaze. He had limited time. He dashed to the elevator and headed straight for the second floor. Following the guard’s directions, he found Breguet’s specialty store. It wasn’t very crowded at the moment–just one man and woman. The man seemed middle-aged, and the woman looked about twenty-three or twenty-four years old.

Finn couldn’t care less about what they were doing. As he walked in, two salespeople promptly greeted him, “Welcome!” Strictly speaking, this wasn’t just a Breguet specialty store; it was a joint store that also showcased other timepiece brands, such as Vacheron Constantin.

The salespeople were considerate and didn’t act haughty at all. In boutiques like these, the salespersons were highly trained professionals. Of course, nobody knew what they were thinking.

“Sir, what type of watch are you interested in?” As Finn approached the counter, a stunning saleswoman greeted him with a warm smile.

Although the pricing of Finn’s clothes was discernible by all, she still addressed him politely. Scanning the items displayed in the counter, Finn saw watches ranging from several hundred thousand to over a million. But he didn’t have time to choose!

“Can you tell me which watch is the most expensive?” Finn bluntly asked.

“Uh, it would be this one.” The surprised saleswoman showed Finn towards a nearby timepiece, assuming he was just window shopping.

It was sheer coincidence that the timepiece was next to the middle- aged man and woman. The man was showcasing a watch, probably worth over a million, to the woman. When Finn approached, the man glanced at him and frowned, but he said nothing.

“Could you please make some room?” They were blocking Finn’s way.

“What? Can you even afford it? If you can’t afford to buy it, don’t just casually look around. You won’t be able to cover the costs if you accidentally break something,” the woman whined.

Finn simply ignored her, looking straight back and repeating, “Excuse me, please make some room.”

The woman wanted to say something, but the man besides her tugged her sleeve and made way, seemingly avoiding conflict with Finn. However, he muttered under his breath, “Why the hell is he even looking if he can’t afford

“Sir, this one is the most expensive piece in our store. It’s the 5074R Rose Gold Automatic Mechanical Watch.” The saleswoman introduced it to Finn. It wasn’t as flashy as he thought, with diamonds encrusting everywhere. Instead, the watch was elegant: a golden case surrounding a black dial. The sporty leather strap was impressive too.

“How much is it?” Finn directly asked.

“The current sale price is 4.65 million. After the discount, it’s 4-45 million.” The woman was a bit puzzled from Finn’s question.

Without a word, Finn immediately took out his bank card and handed it to her. The entire store was shocked by his action.

“Sir?” The confused saleswoman asked.

“What? I’m buying it. No need for packaging; I’ll take it as it is. And I’m in a hurry, so speed it up,” Finn urged.

“Uh, okay sir, wait just a moment.” The saleswoman carried a brilliant smile, a genuine one this time, as she briskly went off to issue an invoice for Finn. He rushed to pay the bill, and the expressions on the faces of the other salespeople, including the man and woman, were priceless.

“Holy crap! He’s buying a Breguet as if he’s buying cabbages!” The man exclaimed in a low voice. Others did not hear him, but the woman beside him did. Though she was envious, she mumbled ‘nouveau riche’ and kept silent.

Earlier, she criticized Finn, saying he couldn’t afford it. Who would’ve thought, the guy purchased his goods faster than them. They’d been in the store for half an hour, struggling to decide on a watch, while Finn finalized his purchase within two minutes of entering..
