Chapter 83: Trace of Mist
Huo’s father’s car was in front, Huo Qian followed closely behind with Ye Qiu, and the group entered a restaurant.
After they entered the private room, everyone sat down.
Huo’s father took the main seat and smiled at Ye Qiu, "Ye Qiu, congratulations on the record-breaking sale of 200 million."
In response to Huo’s father’s appreciative gaze, Ye Qiu smiled faintly, "Huo Qian also played a role in this. It’s not solely my achievement, so half of this 200 million also belongs to Huo Qian."
Upon hearing Ye Qiu straightforwardly assigning one billion to himself, Huo Qian felt a surge of emotion, although he had initially invested the most money, he could only claim credit for the funding. As for appraising the stone, negotiating, and cutting the gem, he hadn’t participated in those processes. Such a simple contribution earning him a massive return of one billion made Huo Qian feel somewhat undeserving.
"Ye Qiu, this really shouldn’t be, one billion is not a small amount, I cannot accept so much." Huo Qian quickly interjected.
"Huo Qian, are you looking down on me, Ye Qiu? If you don’t consider me a friend, I’ll take back what I just said," Ye Qiu pretended to be a bit angry as he spoke.
Huo Qian, embarrassed by Ye Qiu’s words, found himself in an awkward position. Huo’s father, naturally understanding Ye Qiu’s intention, praised Ye Qiu inwardly and then smilingly took the initiative to diffuse the tense atmosphere, "Since Ye Qiu has spoken, Qian, you should accept it. If you continue to refuse, Ye Qiu might not consider you his friend anymore."
Upon hearing his father’s words, Huo Qian nodded. He had felt that Ye Qiu was worth befriending, and following this incident, he was even more convinced that he hadn’t misjudged him. Such matters of money hadn’t blinded Ye Qiu.
At that moment, Huo Qian was certain that Ye Qiu would be his closest friend in the future.
"Alright, I’ll accept it. Just between the two of us brothers, one billion each. Today, let’s celebrate heartily, and may we not return unless drunk," Huo Qian raised his glass, saying with a smile.
"Cheers."
Ye Qiu and Huo Qian kept clinking glasses. Huo Qian was not particularly good at holding his liquor; after a few glasses, his face turned a deep red, clearly showing his intoxication.
In contrast, Ye Qiu’s complexion remained unchanged, his expression clear, as he humored a tipsy Huo Qian.
Huo’s father occasionally joined the three for a drink, laughing as he listened to their wide-ranging conversation.
Uncle Ying stood by, motionless all the while, almost like a statue.
It wasn’t long before Huo Qian slumped over the table, and Ye Qiu’s gaze turned to Huo’s father.
"Ye Qiu, you can really hold your liquor," Huo’s father remarked with a smile.
Ye Qiu smiled, offering no explanation, and Huo’s father continued, "I see you’re quite interested in that family tree?"
With Huo’s father broaching a topic that invigorated Ye Qiu, he smiled wryly, "If Uncle Huo hadn’t intervened, that family tree would have probably fetched a much higher price between that person and me."
"Haha... In that case, it seems I did Ye Qiu a favor," Huo’s father laughed.
Ye Qiu nodded in agreement.
"Ye Qiu, the young man competing with you isn’t ordinary; his father is a person even I have to show some respect to," Huo’s father referred to Wang Kun.
"I still don’t know the identity of the person; could Uncle Huo enlighten me?" asked Ye Qiu sincerely.
Huo’s father smiled and recounted Wang Kun’s family background. After a while, Ye Qiu finally understood the background of the young man.
Indeed, he was no ordinary person. No wonder he was so bold. If one were to discuss family influence, Wang Kun’s father, as well as his grandfather, were not ordinary people, arguably even surpassing Shen Tianlong’s standing.
This person has a red background.
"Thank you, Uncle Huo, for the reminder. I will certainly keep it in mind," Ye Qiu said earnestly. Huo’s father had described Wang Kun’s background so clearly and reminded him mainly because of Huo Qian; otherwise, why would he have bothered to share so much with him?
"Yes, I believe Ye Qiu is a smart man and won’t do foolish things. On normal days, our Qian also needs much care from you, Ye Qiu. For that, Uncle Huo would be even more grateful," laughed Huo’s father.
As the two talked, they emptied a glass of wine. As Ye Qiu poured the wine, he glanced at Uncle Ying, who stood straight behind Huo Qian, his expression unchanging.
What exactly was the identity of this strange and mysterious Uncle Ying?
Ye Qiu downed his drink, the fiery liquor washing over his stomach as if flames were burning along his veins, and the image of his first meeting with Uncle Ying surfaced in his mind— the aura the old man emitted was extraordinary.
Ye Qiu always felt that Uncle Ying was an old man with a story, although he just stood there like a butler. However, the impression he made on Ye Qiu was far deeper than that of Huo’s father.
"By the way, Ye Qiu, you wanted to bid on this family tree previously. It seems you are also interested in it?" Huo’s father shifted the topic to the Dugu family tree.
The Dugu family tree was of significant importance to Ye Qiu. Now that it had fallen into Huo’s father’s hands, there was still hope he could borrow it.
"I don’t mean to conceal it from you, Uncle Huo, but I am indeed interested in this family tree. May I..."
"You want it?" Huo’s father cut off Ye Qiu’s words.
The certainty in Ye Qiu’s eyes made Huo’s father pause, and he embarrassedly chuckled, glancing subtly at Uncle Ying as if hinting something, and said, "Well... Ye Qiu, you might have to ask Uncle Ying, because it was because he wanted this family tree that I bid on it."
Ye Qiu was taken aback. He had initially thought that Huo’s father had bid because of him. It seemed he had overthought it. Regardless, Huo’s father had no reason to please him by personally bidding on the item.
Ye Qiu’s gaze swiftly turned towards Uncle Ying.
"Come with me," Uncle Ying spoke first, unhesitantly, in front of Huo’s father.
Ye Qiu hesitated for a moment, then turned and followed him.
Uncle Ying led Ye Qiu to the rooftop of the hotel.
The rooftop was empty and windy, with the wind howling fiercely.
"Are you a descendant of the Dugu family?" Uncle Ying, with his hands behind his back, faced the wind and spoke without turning his head.
Ye Qiu shook his head.
"Since you are not a descendant of the Dugu family, why are you interested in this family tree?" Uncle Ying held the Dugu family tree in his hand, his back as if equipped with eyes, watching Ye Qiu’s every move as he continued to inquire.
Ye Qiu touched his nose and did not answer Uncle Ying’s question but instead countered, "Uncle Ying, you want the Dugu family tree; could it be that you are a descendant of the Dugu family?"
Ye Qiu had returned the question exactly as it was asked.
"I am not surnamed Dugu," Uncle Ying suddenly sighed. Ye Qiu guessed in his heart all the reasons Uncle Ying might want the Dugu family tree. Suddenly, Uncle Ying said, "However, I once received kindness from that man, who advised me and then disappeared above the rivers and lakes. Since then, I have never seen him until this family tree appeared. For twenty years, I finally got some news of the Dugu family."
A thought struck Ye Qiu. Could Uncle Ying’s mentor be the expert the Old Master had talked about, who also possessed the ability to see through objects?
Ye Qiu’s mind was like a calm lake, and Uncle Ying’s words were like a stone, instantly disrupting the tranquility within.
