Chapter 38: MOCKERY
Ava and a few maids helped Harlow pack her things out of the mansion. She had a lot of properties, unfinished jewels, and a few unfinished projects. She had lost focus in life because she fell in love with that man, but she wouldn’t anymore. She would never let herself ever be distracted anymore.
It was time for her to focus more on her life. She’s more than Harlow Blackwood, just like her father, Harlow has grown to be so industrious without anyone’s knowledge.
For now, she would go to an unknown place in the country where no one can find her easily and get an apartment. She would need to stay away from everything and everyone for the time being, and then she would be back.
"I think that’s all," Ava said staring at the now empty room with just a king-size bed and the dazzling pieces of furniture. She had also heard from the other maids that Harlow’s allowance had been cut too, she was no longer living off of the Blackwoods. She was solely on her own now.
All Ava could think about was how they would survive outside of Frank. But no matter what, her relationship with her miss is a better or worse one. She is ready to suffer with her miss until things turn for the better.
"Then let’s go." Harlow held Grandma Hamilton’s arms as they started leaving her bedroom. Once she stepped out of the room, she was greeted by a smiling Claudia.
"Poor innocent thing kicked out of her father’s mansion. How would you fend for yourself now?" She mocked pitifully and then smiled. freewebnσvel.cѳm
"That is my problem, not yours. I’d live even better than you."
"Ta ta," Claudia clicked her lips, shaking her head slightly as she placed her hands on her sister’s shoulder. She was here to mock Harlow, and she would stop at nothing than mock the living hell out of her sister. She would make her feel the same way she had felt after the humiliation from Alanis. To make her feel so little of herself.
Her marriage with Alanis will really seal everything. She’d make sure Harlow is reduced to nothing but last glory.
"We both know you have no job, Harlow. You spent all your life lusting after a man who already belongs to me." Claudia smiled.
"After all of the bragging last night about being the true heiress of the family. I can’t believe the heiress is locked out now." She puffed her laughter, this time louder than before for the servants to hear. But rather than laughing or giggling as they did her, they all stared at her weirdly.
It was no news they all preferred Harlow to Claudia. Harlow isn’t only beautiful but has a kind heart.
Ava eyed Claudia stylishly, she’d hated the girl from the very beginning. Both she and her mother are two witches always seeking Harlow’s downfall.
When Harlow’s mother died, she had entrusted Harlow to Ava without anyone’s knowledge, and Ava promised the woman to always care and protect her daughter. Now looking at how Harlow has grown into a fine younger woman, she felt so proud of herself and she knows her mother would be so proud of her.
"It’ll make you no less than a mistress’s daughter Claudia. The same position you will be taking soon with Alanis." Harlow smiled.
"That’s not true, I’m marrying him after your divorce. It’s not the same." So you do admit your mother is a Mistress?" She chuckled.
"No matter what you say, Claudia, I am the first wife and according to society norms, first wives are the only true wives." Harlow helped Grandma Hamilton as they both started walking away.
She had no time to argue, but she had all the time in the world to put certain people in their place. Now who has the last laugh? Harlow smiled at her thoughts.
Claudia who watched her sister’s back disappear clenched her hands into a fist. She would get back at that big mouth one way or another.
When Harlow arrived in the lounge, she was greeted by her properties all on the floor. "Search that bag, let’s make sure she’s not taking anything with her," Elisa ordered the servants and they scattered all of her arranged properties with them.
"She steals too?" Garth who had visited so early to talk about the marriage arrangements of Alanis and Claudia asked.
"Of course, she’s been stealing all of my jewels," Elisa said.
Or making them and gifting them to you.’ Harlow rolled her eyes. When she started practicing jewelry making, she would make beautiful diamond jewels for her stepmother thinking the woman loved her and that she’s found a mother. But she had no idea she had only been dreaming.
Elisa never loved her and never will.
These jewels now are worth millions from the Blackwood’s jewel company. She dedicated her life to growing her father’s jewel company, it’s the reason he had made her the C.E.O, but no one knew about it.
"Oh my, can anything good come out of that girl? I should have searched her too the day she left." Garth said. She hated Harlow with passion, especially after the humiliation she caused them, but at the same time feared the girl.
That girl is totally different from whatever Elisa had told them. She had refused to give out her inheritance to anyone.
"Speak of the devil," Elisa said.
"Why are my clothes on the floor?" Harlow asked staring at her stepmother.
"We need to do inspections before leaving to be sure you are not taking anything with you as you are no longer a member of the family."
"Why would I steal anything from my father’s mansion?" Harlow asked. This felt like Deja Vu. It was the same treatment Garth had given her in her past life. The same humiliation she had received that day, only that this time, her family was doing it to her.
Harlow gritted her teeth. Her father will have to pay for this, she would make sure of it. This people, they have no idea who she is or what she’s capable of.
