Chapter 173: New Semester (5)

“Oh, this looks good on you, Aile! Now, try this one—”

“U-Ugh... Ughhh....”

“Great. Keep the pants and just change the top this time...”

“Ugh, ugh, eek—.”

And so, Aile was dragged around for hours, becoming a dress-up doll in Snowah’s hands.

Despite her body having proportions that drew excessive attention, Snowah managed to find several outfits that suited her perfectly—proving that the former magical girl didn’t win her title through sheer luck.

“This... This is me...?”

“Hmm. Even I’m impressed by how well this turned out.”

Aile was utterly shocked by her transformed reflection.

“How am I supposed to walk around in something this shameless...?”

“...You’re really not the one who should be saying that.”

Not that Snowah thought it was a compliment either. She let out a sigh as she recalled Aile’s usual appearance—her ‘Evil Magical Girl’ look.

Seriously? This girl who once strutted around in broad daylight, showing off her underwear and muttering, ‘It’s not underwear, so it’s fine!’—and now she’s embarrassed by this?

Of course, Aile’s current outfit did look a bit daring. No matter how hard she tried, her large chest always drew attention, and any attempts to hide it just made her overall figure look bulky.

“Well... Fashion-wise, this just barely passes.”

“B-Barely...? I-I thought I was going to die...”

“Now, how about we deal with that frustrating hair?”

“M-My hair? What about it all of a sudden...?”

“I’ve wanted to fix that hair of yours since the moment I met you. You manage it just fine when you’re in magical girl mode.”

With that, Snowah dragged Aile out of the department store—paying for everything, of course, with Aile’s credit card.

Even though the clothes were clearly expensive designer brands, Aile paid without a second thought. Snowah couldn’t help but be a little surprised.

Even as a former magical girl who’d made a decent fortune, Snowah couldn’t spend money as casually as Aile did. Well, maybe it was because magical girls had limited careers, but still...

Their next stop was a high-end salon in the neighboring city, one Snowah frequented.

“Snowah! It’s been forever! Not doing any shoots lately?”

“Long time no see, Director. Well, I’m washed up now.”

“Oh, stop it—washed up? You’re still gorgeous!”

While Snowah chatted with the salon director, Aile shrank under the weight of the luxurious atmosphere.

Her shoulders slumped, and her back hunched nervously. Noticing this, Snowah smacked her on the back, forcing her to straighten up, then introduced her to the director.

“This is my friend, Aile. She’s the reason we’re here today.”

“Hmmm... Oh wow—she’s a gem! But why has this gem been so neglected?”

“She doesn’t even know how to do makeup, so could you handle that too?”

“Ohoho! Then I’ll be the one to shape her first look? Lucky me!”

“U-Uhh....”

Before Aile could object, she was forced into one of the salon’s chairs. When asked what hairstyle she wanted, she just nodded and said, “Anything’s fine.” She didn’t even open her eyes when they started the makeup.

To Aile, the hours that followed felt like an eternity. But when the director finally told her to open her eyes, Aile realized she’d undergone a complete transformation.

Her limp, lifeless hair now looked rich and vibrant. Her makeup, far beyond anything she’d tried before, was flawless and radiant.

In a word—she looked magical. Like the kind of magical girl who shined brightly wherever she went.

“You turned out stunning! I wonder who’s going to snatch up this jewel first?”

“Give it up, Director. Aile’s already taken.”

“Oh? Really? What a shame—I know so many great guys....”

Still staring blankly at her reflection, Aile turned as Snowah tapped her shoulder. Snowah smirked at her.

“Come on, Aile. Let’s go.”

“G-Go where...?”

“Where do you think?”

Snowah grabbed Aile’s hand, pulling her up before speaking.

“All this effort—it’s to impress someone, right?”

“Ah...”

Only then did Aile remember why she’d endured this humiliating ordeal.

It was all to show off her transformed self to the scientist.

To make him fall head over heels for her.

To create a beautiful, mutual love story—where they’d adore each other forever...

With that in mind, Aile followed Snowah back to Evilus Corporation.

Becoming a professor hadn’t changed my daily life all that much. Only my title had changed. From a theoretical perspective, maybe I had shifted in terms of “dimensional positioning.”

Whether I was at the company lab or the university lab, I was always researching. Or maybe “studying” was the better word. Studying so I wouldn’t forget what I’d learned on Earth—and so I could twist and break the limits of knowledge to reach further.

Fortunately, this world had things Earth didn’t. Psychic powers, beastkin, demons—supernatural phenomena. Even if I couldn’t go higher, I could always go sideways.

“Hmmm...”

「Is something wrong?」

“No, it just sounds like beastkin weren’t part of the plan at all.”

「We are not gods. We cannot oversee everything.」

My recent research focused on this world’s history and origins—knowledge I extracted from the Watcher’s Eye.

The Watcher had been created by someone else, existing since this world’s beginning. It knew the starting point.

Sure, Earth’s scientists had made theories about our planet’s past, analyzing its birth and evolution, but theories and observations were completely different beasts.

“And to think psychic powers had this kind of secret... Are you seriously calling these people human?”

「You wouldn’t give that title to a clone created in a lab, would you?」

“Wow, hitting the sensitive topics, huh? That’s a pretty loaded question.”

Honestly, I enjoyed talking with the Watcher.

Sure, we’d been ready to kill each other not long ago, but that was separate from how stimulating our conversations were.

Since coming to this world, I hadn’t met anyone who could truly keep up with me. The fact that it turned out to be an AI? Well, whatever. AI friends weren’t that strange.

There were even people in this world who treated Evilus agents like lovers.

—Um, Scientist?

Then, someone knocked on the door.

Judging by the voice, it was Aile. Usually, she just barged in without permission. But now, she was actually knocking first?

After I said she could come in, the doorknob wobbled for a moment. Hesitating, Aile slowly opened the door and stepped inside.

—And the person who entered was someone I’d never seen before.

“...Who are you?”

“It’s... It’s me. Scientist....”

To my surprise, it really was Aile.

She looked so different—no, not just different. She’d changed so much it was like she’d done a full 540-degree spin.

Gone were the childish outfits and unruly hair. Instead, she wore a stylish, university-student look that perfectly highlighted her features. Her hair, which I’d always thought she should cut, now framed her face beautifully.

If she’d looked like this from the start, maybe she wouldn’t have cared about being a “loser” and could’ve lived that “popular” life she always wanted.

I sighed and carefully spoke.

“...What’s with the sudden makeover?”

“I-I wanted to show you, Scientist... I dressed up like this for you.”

“For me?”

I let out a bitter laugh.

I sent her to university to get her out of my space, but here she was, coming right back—and looking like this?

Was this how dads felt when their 20-something daughters still clung to them? I couldn’t help but feel a bit sour.
