Chapter 57: Failed Marionette [3]

Chapter 57: Failed Marionette [3]

On the rooftop of one of the buildings, two figures stood, looking down at the ongoing fight.

"Edric, we must save them right this instant," A guy next to Edric said, his voice anxious.

"Heh!" Edric chuckled, analyzing the fight critically, noticing the insane battle sense of his younger brother.

"Look at them, Charlie." Both looked down as Lucien sliced half of the failed Marionette’s limb.

Following that, the creature lashed out its knee, fast enough that even an Elite might miss.

But Lucien didn’t.

He actually blocked an attack from a quasi-Ascendant while being a new Adept.

Point-blank.

Even if he was a warrior and the creature was a sorcerer, this shouldn’t even be possible.

Charlie’s eyes widened, and Edric let out a chuckle.

"Do you still think they would lose, Charlie?" Edric asked.

But Charlie had no answer for it.

"I don’t need to get my hands dirty, Charlie."

He spoke, malevolence dripping from his voice.

"Not right now, at least."

Charlie hesitantly turned around, his heartbeat increasing, "You wouldn’t kill them, would you?"

Edric looked at him, and a creepy smile stretched across his face.

"Not today. Not yet."

...

Back down on the roads, as the creature was charging a fireball in its mouth, Lucien did nothing but stay there.

Bam!

A massive cone made up of hard stone collided with the back of its head, opening a massive wound behind.

It staggered, its entire balance was thrown off.

Taking the opportunity, Lucien flipped his sword and,

Gush!

The sword entered its belly and came from the other side, lathered with green blood.

He held the word firmly, and pumping out a lot of spirit energy into his arms, he twisted the sword.

Squelch!

Shriek!

It screeched violently, as the sword gutted a golf ball-sized hole in its belly.

’Not again.’

Even when it couldn’t balance properly, its instincts wanted to counter-attack.

Lucien’s sword started feeling hot.

Insanely hot.

He let it go instantly and shouted, "Throw it away."

His voice was panicked, signifying an emergency to Selene.

She nodded and roared.

She poured nearly half of her energy reserves into her attack, which was taking a massive toll on her body.

Rumble!

A massive pillar of rocks rose under the failed Marionette, and Lucien used his remaining spirit energy to teleport to his previous silver disk.

In just half a second, the pillar rose to 5 meters, when suddenly,

BOOM!

The failed Marionette exploded into flames.

The shockwaves shattered the nearby glasses, and even made Lucien, who had a wave of weakness washing over him, stagger and fall on his butt.

The flames were pouring out of its orifices and sounds, but it never destroyed its own body.

Swoosh!

All of a sudden, Lucien and Selene both felt a massive amount of spirit energy rushing towards the failed Marionette’s unmoving body.

"It’s trying to step into the Ascendant realm," Lucien muttered, supporting his aching arm with the other one to make it less painful.

Selene understood what it meant.

It was making a last-ditch attempt.

And they had to stop it.

"Make me a ramp."

Lucien was nearly out of his spirit energy, not being able to perform another [Mirrorstep].

Selene’s eyes widened at his words, but she had no time to think over it.

The plan was suicidal.

But if they didn’t do anything now, it would be a definite death.

They had to take chances.

Selene pressed her palms on the ground, and Lucien made a run for it.

The failed Marionette noticed them.

She began charging one final firestorm, air warping around it.

But Lucien didn’t go astray.

He kept charging.

He didn’t expect the failed Marionette to have energy left for another attack.

Change of plans, he would now use whatever spirit energy was left to dodge this attack with [Mirrorstep].

His steps suddenly slowed down, and he noticed a rogue sword flying towards him.

He looked towards the source of the sword for a split second, while also taking out a silver disk to throw at the failed Marionette.

Two humanoid shadows were sitting on the rooftop, not even moving from there.

He became wary of them, but now wasn’t the time to get distracted.

He caught the sword.

It would make it easier.

The soaring flames closed in on him, and,

[Mirrorstep]!

He vanished.

And reappeared right behind the creature.

Gritting his teeth mid-air from the sheer pain, he swung his hand with all the force he had left.

His gaze, calm and sharp like a hawk, aimed straight towards the failed Marionette’s solar plexus.

Stab!

Crack!

He stabbed deep, precisely hitting the spirit energy core and cracking it into dozens of pieces. freeweɓnovel.cøm

Boom!

The energy core detonated.

Lucien spiraled backwards, screaming.

He hit the ground hard, rolling away like a ragdoll, his bones rattling.

Selene caught his body by making a small platform with whatever energy was left inside her.

Selene fell to her knees, gasping for air, as she looked around.

The failed Marionette dropped like a broken puppet, completely immobile.

It was dead.

She looked around and noticed Lucien lying on the ground, unconscious.

His mouth was wide open, his chest heaving violently, and his entire clothes were burned away.

His skin was also charred, and his hairs were burnt.

Her ears rang.

In the distance, she heard sirens blaring.

Help was finally arriving.

They had won.

Thud!

Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain on her nape.

’Wha–’

Before she could form a thought, she fell on the ground, unconscious.

Just like others.

"Charlie," Edric’s figure became visible as Selene fell.

"Hmm?" Charlie also appeared beside him.

"Immediately pour healing potions on my brother and his fiancée." He ordered sternly, "We can’t let a single scar remain on the Royal couple."

He grinned, looking at his brother and Selene, and making sure to remember this fight.

Charlie obeyed and quickly did everything as Edric ordered.

"Pull out the sword that killed the failed Marionette and toss it to me." His next order arrived, and Charlie also completed it faithfully.

Edric caught the sword and wiped the grip clear with his handkerchief.

"Gather a few more guys around, change the camera footage around, and be my witness."

A malicious grin appeared on his face.

"Prince Edric Callastre heroically saved his younger brother and his fiancée and successfully slayed a failed Marionette."
