Chapter 405: How could they let a 17-year-old do as she pleased?
"Nah, no way. Don’t include me in that. It’ll only make me a public figure." Alice said and laughed. "And when that happens, I can’t go out to eat fried chicken peacefully without worrying about my face being seen by others. It would be such a bother, so I think I’ll pass."
Adopt listened to this and laughed. Yes, this was Alice. The simple child who was more concerned about filling her stomach than conquering the world.
Because of this simplicity, he didn’t even need to worry about her getting overly ambitious and greedy because of the power she wielded.
She did act arrogant and a little haughty, but it was only because the older ones wouldn’t listen to her if she didn’t. If she acted meek and decided to listen to their every word, she would only end up running mad in anger.
Alice was a free spirit.
She didn’t want to stand in the spotlight, but she failed to realize that after the subjugation was completed by just her and Leo, no matter how much they tried to hide it, the world would get to know it, and her face would be all over the globe.
"Then, shall we get going?"
Since Adolf promised to assist her and exempt her from joining a guild to function, he decided to announce it as soon as they went back to the meeting hall so that no one would have funny ideas like how they were going to recruit her once things were over.
There were a lot of complaints, but Adolf made it clear that if they wanted to take Alice under their guild, then they would have to defeat him and defeat Alice afterwards.
Of course, they knew they couldn’t defeat him, so they gave up on that idea.
But they wondered, though. Why did the assessment end with no climatic action? The Chairman didn’t even get to carry out an attack, as if he was satisfied with just seeing how much force her attacks carried.
"I have confirmed Alice Reinhart’s skills," The chairman announced as he adjusted the sleeve of his shirt and buttoned up his shirt. "And I’m relieved to say that she’s strong enough for the job." He glanced at Alice and smiled.
Alice smirked, showing those guys who the boss was.
"But it’s not doubt that a parent will worry despite how capable their child is. So, Alice, I’ll say this early, please do not be careless. One single slip means death, understand?" He said, and Alice nodded.
"Roger." There was no way she would slip up there. And even if she did, those monsters did not have enough destructive force to deal her any damage. So, it was all good.
Adolf could tell she was still taking things lightly despite his warning, but he could only hope for the best.
"Now, let us go about the plans for the subjugation." He said.
Alice would need to get her license that Sunday, and a lot of preparations needed to be done for the others as well, but they couldn’t take too long, so the subjugation would take place in a few days.
"I expect everyone who wants to be involved in this subjugation to be well prepared and organized, and as for those who aren’t going to be of any help..." He glanced towards China and back to the rest. "... Please do not get in our way. We shall all work together to make the world a better and peaceful world for the simple civilians, as well as ourselves, to live in."
Su Feng clenched his teeth and his fist. To think he would be humiliated like this.
It was all that bitches fault. How could they let a 17-year-old do as she pleased?
He would have to call ’that’ guy. There’s no way Alice would be able to do anything once faced with ’him’.
He was blinded by the delusion that Adolf simply went easy on Alice and took her hits only to test her destructive force. He had no idea what had really transpired since they only watched from a screen.
Alice had gone extremely easy on Adolf, despite him asking her not to because he wanted to see her full potential. It was dangerous. He could not take her full brunt, no matter what he did, and after seeing that, Alice’s excitement died down.
She could not take that risk so carelessly. freewёbnoνel.com
"Hey, aren’t you going to test Leo too?" Alice asked with a cunning snicker playing on her lips, but Adolf took one good look at Leo and said,
"I’ll just believe his strength equals that of yours for you to be so confident." He could tell that Leo wasn’t a simple individual.
If Alice hadn’t said he was a familiar, then he would have felt threatened by his existence. Not would’ve, but he still did. Each time he saw Leo, there was this sense of heavy oppression that made him want to bow his head as if he were in front of a mighty being, one he could not fathom. He could not even make eye contact with Leo for more than two seconds before looking away.
He did not feel that way in Alice’s presence, but it was so for Leo, causing Adolf to wonder just what sort of entity this man was.
The meeting was adjourned, and Alice exchanged a few words with Devon, who smiled softly at her.
"I’m so proud of you," he said. It was something he wanted to say since the commotion earlier. But that wasn’t all. There was another feeling he had in his heart that he wanted to speak out... Something he wanted to tell her.
A confession.
He knew she wouldn’t accept it, and she might be troubled by it, but he felt like acting so selfish and greedy just to get the words out of his chest.
"Something wrong?" Alice asked, tilting her head as she noticed Devon had gone quiet all of a sudden.
"No, there’s nothing." Devon said, reaching his hand towards her, and caressed her cheeks softly. He had stopped wearing his gloves because of what she said, and he was glad he did. He could feel the warmth on her cheeks so clearly that he felt his own heartbeat on his fingertips. "It’s nothing, honestly."
But Alice felt his gaze and his tone did not match his words.
She held his hand and asked,
"Do you miss me?"
Devon was taken aback by her question. He looked like he did not understand, but in his heart, he had already given her an answer.
"I’ve been busy lately, so you and I haven’t had a chance to sit alone and talk. You must miss me, right?" She asked, stating it more clearly, and his gaze softened.
Don’t be greedy and don’t inconvenience her. She’s a girl the age of your brother. He told himself these things but how could he keep to them when she was so damn cute? She... Made his heart thump uncontrollably as if it was going to explode.
She made his cheeks burn with a certain sensation and made his world feel so weak with her smile.
"I do," he answered, covering his face in shame. "Let go, Alice. I’ll wait for you." He said. "I know you’re busy."
"What’s wrong with your face?" Alice asked, but he shook his head. Still, she was persistent. "You look hot. Are you having trouble breathing?"
"That’s not it." He said. "When you are near, I feel like I can breathe with ease."
"Huh?"
